'GTA V' Likely Coming in Early 2013 for 360, PS3 and Wii U
Wed Mar 14, 2012 at 10:30 AM ETTags: Rockstar, Take Two, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, Grand Theft Auto, Grand Theft Auto V (all tags)
Analyst Arvind Bhatia suggests that this launch window will help to maximize sales.
There's no question that 'Grand Theft Auto V' will be big, and Take Two wants to make sure that sales numbers reflect that. That's one of the reasons that analyst Arvind Bhatia suggests we'll see the title as a spring 2013 launch, rather than something to compete in the already packed holiday season.
Bhatia says that Take Two may also wish to allow their game to start selling right at the end of the company's fiscal year, which wraps up in March of 2013.
The most interesting part of the speculation is that Take Two may be looking for "a larger installed base including the potential for launch on Nintendo Wii U." This would be the first full-on 'Grand Theft Auto' game for a Nintendo system and the second overall.

Oklahoma State Rep Wants to Tax Violent Videogames
Fri Feb 03, 2012 at 12:30 PM ETTags: Bully, Rockstar, Grand Theft Auto, Videogame Violence, Videogame Restrictions, Videogame Laws (all tags)
Teen, Mature and Adult Only games could face an extra tax when sold in Oklahoma.
Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweeping down the plains, is also the state where state reps try to pass legislature taxing the sale of videogames. The bill would charge a one percent tax on the sale of any games rated Teen, Mature and Adult Only.
The bill was introduced into Oklahoma state representative Will Fourkiller - yes, that's his real name - in order to fight childhood obesity and game inspired violence. He doesn't mention, of course, that kids spending unreasonable amounts of time playing videogames is almost certainly a symptom of a bigger problem.
Fourkiller says that games like the 2001 release 'Bully' and 'Grand Theft Auto' inspired the initiative. "A gentleman shot a police officer and stole his car," he says. "He had been playing Grand Theft Auto. Not everybody is going to react the same, but I believe after hours and hours of watching the screen, playing the video game, being that person and taking on that role, people get desensitized."
Fourkiller believes this despite the fact that science has found no cause-effect relationship between violent games and violent behavior.
The bill will be read before the house on February 6th. If you happen to live in Oklahoma, it's time to make some calls and shoot off some emails.

The 'Grand Theft Auto V' Trailer is Finally Here
Wed Nov 02, 2011 at 08:30 AM ETTags: Grand Theft Auto, Rockstar, Grand Theft Auto V, Trailers (all tags)
It's a cool introduction to the game, which will be set back in San Andreas.
We've had a pretty long wait, but the day is finally here. 'Grand Theft Auto V' has been revealed. The first trailer for the game was just released by Rockstar and it's looking pretty slick.
We learn a few things from the trailer, but the biggest revelation is that the series is heading back to San Andreas and centered around the city of Los Alamos. You'll also notice that it's not a bright time for the state, or for the game's protagonist. Depression and unemployment are rampant - sounds a little familiar, doesn't it?
A release date for the game has yet to be announced, but we're expecting to find out sometime after the Christmas buying season.
