'Cream: Royal Albert Hall London 2005' Announced for Blu-ray

The 2005 reunion concert goes high-def next month.

In an early announcement to retailers, Eagle Rock Entertainment is prepping 'Cream: Royal Albert Hall London 2005' for a high-definition release on October 11.

This epic 19-song high-definition reunion concert of guitarist/vocalist Eric Clapton, bassist/vocalist Jack Bruce and drummer Ginger Baker—who hadn’t played together in nearly 40 years—comes complete with an additional three bonus tracks: alternate versions of “Sleepy Time Time,” “We’re Going Wrong” and “Sunshine Of Your Love.” Interviews with all three legends make up the remainder of this historic two-hour and 47-minute classic.

Cream’s four studio albums – Fresh Cream, Disraeli Gears, Wheels Of Fire, and Goodbye – were all successful, and yielded numerous hit singles. Still, it was their incendiary and revolutionary approach to live performance that made them stand out head and shoulders above their peers. This very special chemistry can be felt on 'Cream: Royal Albert Hall London 2005.'

Despite being together originally from only 1966 to 1968, these three not only set the standard for power trios but became god-like to their fans in their virtuosity and intricate bombastic jamming. The interplay between the three of them—all three soloing simultaneously!—was like nothing that had ever came before. To even the surprise and delight of the musicians themselves, that bond did not break through the decades.

Suggested list price for the Blu-ray is $19.99.

'The Pretenders: Loose in L.A.,' ' Yes: Symphonic Live,' & 'Procol Harum’s Live At The Union Chapel' Blu-rays Announced

Thu Sep 08, 2011 at 03:00 PM ET
Tags: Eagle Rock, Disc Announcements (all tags)

Three more concerts are coming to the high-definition format next week.

For over 30 years, The Pretenders have perfected a tightly crafted brand of rock ‘n’ roll, topped with the haunting, smoky vocals of Chrissie Hynde. This signature sound has earned them chart-topping success on both sides of the Atlantic, and other territories worldwide. Now available for the first time in the stunning Blu-ray format, 'Pretenders: Loose In L.A.' is a 26-song concert shot in hi-def at the Wiltern Theater in 2003. Loose In L.A. captures the band touring in support of their Loose Screw album, and includes extras (the video for “You Know Who Your Friends Are,” backstage footage and a concert montage).

'Yes: Symphonic Live' is the dazzling 14-song three-hour+ visual document of the grand sound of Yes live, filmed in hi-definition. Since its inception in 1968, Yes has become synonymous with Progressive Rock, influencing countless bands in the genre. Backed by a full symphony orchestra, lead guitarist Steve Howe, bassist Chris Squire, drummer Alan White and vocalist Jon Anderson, re-created the dramatic intensity of their 2001 album Magnification (the first Yes album with no keyboards and the last Yes album with Anderson). Extras on Symphonic Live include the promotional video for “Don’t Go” and a 30-minute documentary, “Dreamtime.”

Originally released on DVD in 2004, 'Procol Harum’s Live At The Union Chapel' also includes a bonus interview with vocalist/pianist Gary Brooker, an “Earlier In The Day” montage and “Comments From The Bar” in its two and half hours. The band formed in 1967 England and had a #1 hit right out of the box with that most classic-of-classics “Whiter Shade Of Pale.” Serious musicologists for the last 44 years still haven’t figured out what its lyrics mean but that’s just added to the fascination. This song closes out a 21-track set filmed in high definition at the Union Chapel in London.

Suggested list price for each Blu-ray is $19.98.

'Rory Gallagher’s Irish Tour ’74' Announced for Blu-ray

Tue Mar 15, 2011 at 01:00 PM ET
Tags: Eagle Rock, Disc Announcements (all tags)

One of the world's greatest blues-rock guitarists of all-time is coming to high-definition this April.

In an early announcement to retailers, Eagle Rock Entertainment is prepping 'Rory Gallagher’s Irish Tour ’74' for a high-definition release on April 12.

Captured at a time when Gallagher was voted the #1 guitar player by Melody Maker Magazine, Irish Tour is a brilliant showcase of his musical prowess. Award-winning filmmaker Tony Palmer followed Gallagher around Ireland as audiences went wild night after night. The film—which enjoyed a successful run in theaters—has been beautifully restored and remastered from the original footage, and is making its Blu-Ray debut.

The two-hour DVD/Blu-Ray features nine jams—“Walk On Hot Coals,” “Tattoo’d Lady,” “Who’s That Coming,” “A Million Miles Away,” “Going To My Home Town,” “Cradle Rock,” “As The Crow Flies,” “Hands Off” and “Bullfrog Blues”—as well as bonus home movie footage from Gallagher’s Japanese tour of the same year. Also on the DVD/Blu-ray is the 1972 RTE (Irish television network) half-hour documentary “Rory Gallagher: Music Makers.” Highlights on this rare gem include “Toredown,” “Laundromat,” “Pistol Slapper Blues,” and “Don’t Know Where I’m Going.”

Regarded as one of the greatest live albums of all time, the Irish Tour CD/vinyl captures Rory’s exceptional playing, sans overdubs and studio fixes. The sound is raw, real Rory. The CD’s 10 tracks are “Cradle Rock,” “I Wonder Who,” “Tattoo’d Lady,” “Too Much Alcohol,” “As The Crow Flies,” “A Million Miles Away,” “Walk On Hot Coals,” “Who’s That Comin’,” “Back On My Stompin' Ground” and “Maritime.” The vinyl is a double-album. Side A has “Cradle Rock,” “I Wonder Who” and “Tattoo’d Lady.” Side B has “Too Much Alcohol,” “As The Crow Flies” and “A Million Miles Away.” Side C has “”Walk On Hot Coals” and “Who’s That Comin’.” Side D has “Back On My Stompin’ Ground” and “Maritime.”

Rory Gallagher (1948-1995) is as popular now 16 years after his death as he ever was. His original band, Taste, in 1967, was a power trio that stretched the limits of what electricity could do to the blues. From his first solo album in 1970 throughout the rest of his tragically shortened life at age 47 due to complications of a liver transplant, his music has inspired millions with its refusal to pander to trends or even radio. Turning down an offer to join The Rolling Stones, Gallagher was passionately, religiously dedicated to his craft and his singular style. Artists as diverse as Slash, Brian May, The Edge, Glenn Tipton (Judas Priest), Janick Gers (Iron Maiden) and many others have cited him as a major influence. A feature documentary, Ghost Blues (2010 – Eagle Rock Entertainment), created even more interest in his legendary career.

The April 12 multi-format release triggers a 2011 bonanza for the legion of Gallagher fans worldwide. Eagle Rock Entertainment plans a busy year for the restoration, re-release and re-mastering of Gallagher’s entire catalog.

There's no word on tech specs yet, but suggested list price for the Blu-ray is $19.98.

You can find the latest specs for 'Rory Gallagher’s Irish Tour ’74' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, where it's indexed under April 12.
