LG Sets Their Sights on Businesses
Mon Nov 16, 2009 at 01:00 PM ETTags: LG (all tags)
LG has introduced a series of energy saving LCD and plasma televisions aimed directly at hotels, hospitals, and long term care facilities.
Going to a hotel, even a relatively nice one, can often feel like a trip back in time. Going from a 50” plasma in the home to a 27” standard definition television is a pretty abrupt change. Perhaps even worse, a hospital featuring a clunky old CRT presents patients with the idea that maybe the rest of the equipment isn’t up to snuff.
More than fifty percent of Americans have high definition televisions in their homes. We’re used to that sixteen by nine aspect ratio and a certain amount of video quality. LG’s new line of televisions – aimed directly at hotels and hospitals, packs in a huge amount of features that make them efficient, eco friendly, and easy to set up.
For hotels comes the LG710H series, available in 32,” 37,” and 42” sizes. Each of these televisions sports a 720p resolution and a dynamic contrast ratio of 50,000:1. The LH300C series, on the other hand, offers 1080p and a glossy black finish.
Hospitals and long term care facilities are being shown the HealthView series of TVs, which offers 26” and 32” screens. The HealthView displays won’t blow any minds with their specs, but they do feature the unique ability to be set as Bed1 or Bed2, ensuring that patients are only able to control their own TVs.
Each of the new models also feature a USB cloning tool, which allows settings and programs to be simply copied using a USB storage device.

LG Announces New Blu-ray Home Theater System
Mon Oct 12, 2009 at 12:00 PM ETTags: LG, Home Theater In A Box (all tags)
The HB954SP features a Blu-ray player, 1000W of power across 5.1 channels, and some rather unusual speakers.
LG’s new Home Theater in a Box does everything an entry level HTiB really should do. It sports a Blu-ray player that lets users view Blu-ray and upscaled DVD content in full 1080p. It plays music from an iPod or iPhone, but not video. It streams videos from YouTube and offers USB playback.
The HB954SP features a pair of HDMI inputs so that other sources such as game systems and DVRs can be hooked up, and offers 5.1 channel audio. The system is designed with ease of use in mind, and even allows a simple shutoff for the subwoofer so “you do not wake sleeping children,” according to the press release.
The system comes with a subwoofer, two surround speakers, and one speaker each for the L/C/R channels. The somewhat egg shaped black speakers look a bit odd, but of course the sound is what truly matters. Boasting 1000 watts of power, the HB954SP should have no shortage of kick.
The HV954SP will be available this November. No pricing has yet been announced.

LG’s Ultra Slim Local Dimming Wireless LCD
Mon Sep 14, 2009 at 11:00 AM ETTags: LG (all tags)
Adding to an already impressive assortment of wireless LCDs at CEDIA, LG’s LH series is now officially available in the US.
Sneaking in cheaper than Sony’s comparable wireless display offerings, and with local dimming, rather than edge lighting is LG’s newest offering, the 55LHX. Boasting THX Display Certification and at less than one inch thick, the LHX is an impressive display.
The 55LHX features a reported contrast ratio of 5,000,000:1 and incorporates TruMotion 240Hz technology. LG says the 55LHX will be available “soon” and will retail for $4,799.
At a lower price, but lacking in LED backlighting, is the LH85 series. The LH85 series features LG’s 24p Real Cinema technology, and an 80,000:1 contrast ratio. Shipping this fall at $3,199 for a 55” display and $2,399 for a 47” screen, the LH85 line may stand to be the more competitive of the two during the upcoming holiday season.

LG Picks Up Four EISA Awards
Wed Aug 19, 2009 at 12:00 PM ETTags: LG (all tags)
The company's products were declared Best Value in HDTV and Blu-ray Player categories.
The European Imaging and Sound Association saw fit to shower LG with a handful of awards for their HDTVs and Blu-ray players. The Korea IT Times reports that in an addition to an award for greenest mobile phone, LG took home three home theater awards.
The as yet unreleased LG SL8000 took home the Best Value HDTV and has been praised for combining the best in design and technology into one device. The unique face of the LCD makes it appear to be one uninterrupted sheet of smoky glass, and according to the EISA provides “a great Full HD viewing experience at an affordable price.”
The critically lauded BD390 took home the Best Value award for the Blu-ray Player category. With built in Wi-Fi, Netflix and CinemaNow streaming, not to mention high visual quality and analog 7.1 ouputs at an affordable price, it’s no surprise.
Already a winner of a 2009 CES Innovations Award, the LG HB954PB is a fantastic looking Blu-ray home theater system which includes streaming capabilities. The EISA commented that owners of the home theater system were able to “experience Blu-ray in full High Definition and surround sound, for a high quality music and movie experience” with a “simple and easy installation” and “balanced, detailed sound.”

LG President Says Strategy To Overcome Global Recession Is Working
Tue Aug 04, 2009 at 03:00 PM ETTags: LG (all tags)
Focus on higher end products pays off for LG.
LG’s summer line show kicked off with a keynote by president Teddy Hwang, who says LG is flourishing despite a down US economy. According to a press release from LG, the US represents about twenty five percent of LG’s business, and they’ve been focused on staying profitable in that market.
“In the United States, the current climate continues to impact the industry” said Hwang. “We've seen this in home appliances, where LG focuses on higher-end products… LG is doing better than last year, because dealers and consumers love our new products, including network plasma and LCD HDTVs and Blu-ray players”
Hwang also announced a huge investment into plants in Mexico, and that LG will be consolidating LCD manufacturing from their Reynosa and Mexicali plants into one large plant in Reynosa. “The consolidation and expansion of these plants will offer improved efficiencies and, most importantly, allow us to better serve our U.S. customers”

LG’s Seamless Design LCDs Announced At Summer Line Show
Tue Aug 04, 2009 at 02:00 PM ETTags: LG, Product Announcement (all tags)
Among the bevy of announcements coming from LG’s summer line show were the SL80 and LED backlit SL90 LCDs.
An ultra slim bezel and seamless edge to edge panel are the incredible aesthetic selling points of these new TVs. The appearance of the new line is pretty impressive, but of course, what the screen looks like when it’s on is the bigger concern for consumers.
Launching this holiday season, according to LG’s press release, the SL80 features 240Hz TruMotion technology as well as a contrast ratio of 150,000:1. The SL90 isn’t officially detailed, but LG did state that it would be just over an inch thick and feature LED backlighting.
Michael Ahn, president of LG North America, said of the new televisions “Our advanced new SL80/90 HDTVs demonstrate how together innovation and design produce exceptional performance”
