Alexa voice control is rolling out to the company's new TV lineup.
LG has announced the launch of Amazon Alexa support on its 2019 collection of ThinQ UHD, NanoCell, and OLED smart TVs in the US, UK, Austria, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, and Spain. The update is now rolling out to customers in North America and will expand to Europe and Asia in the coming weeks.
"The addition of Alexa support is another example of LG's commitment to simplifying our customers' lives," said Brian Kwon, president of Mobile Communications and Home Entertainment companies at LG. "We will continue to enrich the user experience going forward with a diverse range of convenient AI services and features."
With integrated Amazon Alexa capabilities, users can ask questions, control smart home products, play music/audio books, access over 90,000 Alexa Skills, and more via voice commands on a compatible LG TV without the need for a separate external device. Likewise, customers can link multiples actions under one command with the Alexa Routines feature, enabling users to receive traffic updates, weather details, and other daily agenda info by saying "Alexa, start my morning." Alexa functionality will continue to be refreshed as new features are added as well, allowing the displays to stay up to date with all of Alexa's latest capabilities.
Beyond Alexa, 2019 ThinQ TVs also feature built-in support for Google Assistant. In addition, 2019 OLED and select NanoCell TV models are set to receive Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support through an upcoming update scheduled for mid-year, enabling Siri voice control and video streaming from a connected Apple device.
