New 'Mortal Kombat' Trailer Shows Off Vita Touch Screen Controls
Mon Mar 19, 2012 at 12:30 PM ETTags: Mortal Kombat, Vita, Touchscreen (all tags)
For the most part, you'll be using them for the Challenge Tower full of touch based mini-games.
The latest trailer for 'Mortal Kombat' on the Vita gives us a look at some of the touchscreen controls that will be used in game. Before you get too worried, know that these controls aren't at all required to play the game normally, though the option is there.
The main focus of these touchscreen and Sixaxis controls is a Vita-centric Challenge Tower which puts you into iPhone game like scenarios. There's even a section that's essentially a 'Mortal Kombat' version of 'Fruit Ninja.'
The trailer also shows off the game in its traditional state, which runs at a nice crisp 60 frames per second and looks just as good as you'd expect a Vita version of the game to look.

'Mortal Kombat' is Coming to the Vita at 60fps
Thu Jan 19, 2012 at 12:30 PM ETTags: Mortal Kombat, PlayStation Vita (all tags)
Creative Director Ed Boon says everything from the PS3 game will be present in the Vita version, plus a little extra.
After a pretty significant span of disappointing titles, 'Mortal Kombat' has come back in a big way. The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions have been met with high praise and have even been included in top-tier gaming tournaments. The folks at Netherrealm studios have just announced that you'll soon be able to take that same 'Mortal Kombat' experience with you thanks to the PlayStation Vita.
Creative Director Ed Boon says that very little has had to change with the transition to the Vita. "We did have to reduce some of the polygon counts from the backgrounds and characters," he says, but adds that the bright screen and high pixel density do much to make up for it. The game will be running at 60 frames per second too. "We wouldn’t accept any compromises there."
There are a few touchscreen features for the new title, but it's all optional. You can execute finishers or use your X-ray attack through the touchscreen, but if you prefer the traditional inputs you're more than welcome to use them.
