'Psychonauts 2! 'Uncharted 4'! 'Shaq Fu'?
Of course, admist all the pageantry, the Game Awards once again fulfilled its role as, basically, a tiny E3, with trailers out the wazoo for previously announced stuff, as well as some huge surprises. Here's what we've covered so far:
The big one, of course, is that brilliant S.O.B. Tim Schafer is, in fact, bringing back 'Psychonauts'. Once again, Schafer is looking to the miracle of crowd-funding to get 'Psychonauts 2' off the ground, and while you can simply go to fig.co for the particulars, you should also watch the delightful pitch video he put together for the show.
Next up, 'Where The Water Tastes Like Wine', a project from Dim Bulb Games, a new studio led by Johnnemann Nordhagen, formerly of The Fullbright Company. I have zero idea what this game could possibly be, but if this Van Gogh-Meets-'The Grapes of Wrath' vibe we've got going here is seriously what the game will look like in motion, we should all be handing over our wallets now, just get it overwith.
Next up: I don't even have the words to explain how or why this is happening outside of someone taking their 90s nostalgia SUPER seriously, but nevertheless....'Shaq Fu' is coming back.
Yes, really.
Now, yet another all-too-brief look at Remedy's 'Quantum Break'. We still know pretty astonishingly little about the game aside from its most basic premise, about a time-experiment gone wrong, and two scientists trying to escape an evil corporation because of it, and if you were hoping this trailer might shed some light on things, I'm very sorry. You just have to settle for it looking super cool, and pray for the best when the game hits in April, exclusively for Xbox One.
On the Sony exclusive side of things, we have an all too brief new look at 'Uncharted 4', in which we are introduced to a brand new character, Nadine Ross (played by Laura Bailey, because only 5 people do video game voices, ever). As you can see, she's rather pissed at Nate. Of course she's pissed at Nate. This whole series could be titled 'Everyone's Pissed At Nate'.
Next up, this stunning new trailer for 'Far Cry Primal', in which we get to see main character Takkar walking with the animals, talking to the animals, and then maiming, killing, and eating with the animals. That is how that song goes, right? Well, you try telling 'Quest For Fire' guy that.
Next: A look at the 'Baba Yaga' DLC for 'Rise of the Tomb Raider'. For those who don't know (or didn't se 'John Wick'), Baba Yaga is a witch out of Slavic mythology, typically portrayed as a haggard crone with chicken legs. Depending on the story, sometimes she helps out travelers through her forest, and sometimes, she's an unholy mindgame-playing terror. Take a wild guess which one 'Tomb Raider's going with.
And saving the best for last here: 'Mortal Kombat X' is getting a second Kombat Pack, with a few new characters. Namely, Bo Rai Cho (who's been rumored as being in this game for the longest time anyway), Tri-Borg (the sweet-looking hybrid of 'MK3's robot trio of Cyrax, Sektor, and Cyborg Smoke), Leatherface from 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre' (we'll miss you, Gunnar Hansen), and because why the hell not, every other horror movie monster's in this thing now, a Xenomorph from 'Alien'. Now, can we please get Freddy back in here so he and Jason can have it out once and for all without any outside interference from Monica Keena?
