'Mass Effect 3' Demo Bumps Silver Members to Go - Facebook App Gives Away Prizes
EA is pushing 'Mass Effect 3' hard.
The folks at EA are all about promotion this month. That's nothing new, but it's still impressive to see the massive marketing engine power up. The latest bits are targeting Xbox 360 owners specifically by giving away prizes and even a Gold upgrade for those that need it.
On February 14th, the 'Mass Effect 3' demo hits the Xbox Live marketplace. If you're not a Xbox Live Gold member, you're in for a treat. Downloading the demo will give upgrade your Silver account to Gold for free until March 6th.
If you jump on Facebook you can earn in-game and out-of-game prizes. The "game" is divided up into missions, the first of which is to invite friends to play. Whether you do that or not, you'll get a Normandy prop for your avatar as soon as enough people sign up. Other prizes will include things like Microsoft Points and a brand new Xbox. Those, obviously, won't be going to everyone.

Microsoft is Looking for a Head of Original Programming for Xbox Live
Thu Dec 15, 2011 at 12:00 PM ETTags: Xbox Live, Xbox 360, Microsoft, Industry Trends (all tags)
The latest Xbox update brought a good deal of new content, but it looks like Microsoft isn't satisfied with letting other people make it.
When the newest update to the Xbox 360 dropped last week there was a glut of content added. YouTube is now available on the system, as are cable provider specific apps and there are more planned to hit the system in the coming months.
That's not enough for Microsoft though. The company is now looking for a head of original programming, targeting two ex NBC executives as possible hires. It looks like we're going to see some new shows developed just for Xbox Live members.
This is some potentially big news but there are really two possibilities here. The first is that Microsoft is going to follow the Netflix route and try and get some real content and maybe a cancelled show or two. The other, of course, is that the original programming will be things similar to the already existing content like 'Major's Minute.'
With so much focus on getting players using their Xboxes instead of their cable boxes, it seems entirely possible that it's the former.
