Reaching all the way back to the 17th century for their latest high-def release, Starz Home Entertainment will debut the British drama 'To Kill a King' on Blu-ray this February.
An epic retelling of the turbulent historical relationship between the leaders of the New Model Army in the wake of the English Civil War, 'To Kill a King' received only a limited release in the United States back in 2003, but was a bigger hit in its native Britain.
Starz has set a February 26, 2008 date for the film's Blu-ray release. The title will list for a suggested retail price of $29.98.
There were no tech specs or supplement details available at press time for 'To Kill a King,' but we'll keep you posted as more information comes in.

Starz Plans Trip to 'Coney Island' on Blu-ray
Tue Nov 06, 2007 at 09:00 AM ETTags: Disc Announcements, Starz (all tags)
Digging deep into their back catalog, Starz will bring the cult classic 'Went To Coney Island On a Mission From God... Be Back By Five' to Blu-ray this January.
Although it registered barely a blip at the box office during its theatrical run in 1998, 'Coney Island' was one of the best-reviewed films of that year, earning it a January 15, 2008 Blu-ray debut.
No specs or supplemental details are yet available, although Starz/Anchor Bay did release a special edition of the film on DVD a few years back that contained an audio commentary, featurettes and other extras, so we can hope some or all of those bonuses will also appear on the Blu-ray.
Retail has been set at $24.98.
You'll find disc details for 'Went To Coney Island On a Mission From God... Be Back By Five' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, where it is indexed under January 15, 2008. Stay tuned for final specs and box art...

Specs, New Street Date for 'Masters of Horror - Vol. 4' Blu-ray
Mon Oct 15, 2007 at 01:00 PM ETTags: Disc Announcements, TV on High-Def, Starz (all tags)
Arriving one week earlier than expected, the fourth and final volume of 'Masters of Horror: Season One' will include the highly controversial episodes "Homecoming" and "Imprint."
Originally announced for Blu-ray release on December 11, Starz has confirmed that 'Masters of Horror: Season One - Vol. Four' will instead street a full week earlier, on December 4.
Containing four episodes instead of the three on all previous Blu-ray releases of the series, 'Volume Four' is easily the most highly-anticipated of the bunch. In addition to 'Haeckel's Tale' (directed by John McNaughton) and 'Chocolate' (Mick Garris), the set includes Takishi Miike's 'Imprint' -- which proved so graphic that even Showtime refused to air it during the series' original broadcast run -- and Joe Dante's politically-charged 'Homecoming,' which both fans and critics have hailed as not only the best episode of the entire series, but also one of the best horror short films ever made.
Tech specs mirror the previous three 'Masters of Horror' Blu-ray releases, including 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 transfers (at 1.78:1 widescreen) and uncompressed PCM 5.1 surround audio tracks (48kHz/16-bit/4.6mbps).
Supplements include the same audio commentary tracks for each episode that were included on the previous DVD releases, but none of the previously released video-based supplements.
Retail is $29.98.

Starz Unveils Feature-Packed Specs for First Blu-ray Titles
Wed Sep 12, 2007 at 11:00 AM ETTags: Disc Announcements, Exclusive HD Content, Starz (all tags)
Specs are in for Starz Home Entertainment's first wave of Blu-ray titles, and they're sure to put a smile on the faces of eager horror fans.
As first announced earlier this summer, Starz will launch its Blu-ray support on October 2 with a quartet of horror classics, including the original 'Halloween,' 'Dawn of the Dead,' 'Day of the Dead' and 'Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn.'
Though Starz (formerly Anchor Bay) has taken considerable flak in the past for its standard-def DVD practice of "double-dipping" multiple versions of the same title with different bonus features, their first wave of Blu-ray releases would seem to suggest a change in strategy.
All four titles will port over the lion's share of bonus material included on the various DVD editions, including audio commentaries, making-of documentaries and featurettes, deleted material, still galleries, trailers and more. (For complete supplemental details for each title, click the links under the "Discs Mentioned in this Article" section below.)
Meanwhile, each of the Blu-ray versions will include a brand new, high-def exclusive "Fast Film Facts" subtitle track, which the studio says will feature pop-up trivia, historical info and cast & crew biographies.
Given the wealth of bonus content promised, it should come as no surprise that all of Starz's initial titles are set to hit Blu-ray on BD-50 dual-layer discs. Other tech specs include 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video and uncompressed PCM 5.1 audio on all four titles ('Dawn of the Dead' and 'Day of the Dead' are also set to include their original mono tracks in Dolby Digital).
Each title has a list price of $29.98.

Starz Sets Date For 'Beowulf & Grendel' on Blu-ray
Thu Jul 19, 2007 at 11:01 AM ETTags: Disc Announcements, Starz (all tags)
Starz Home Entertainment has announced the latest addition to its growing Blu-ray line-up with the November release of 'Beowulf & Grendel.'
An updated take on the classic Angelo Saxon poem, 'Beowulf & Grendel' only received a very limited theatrical run in the United States in 2006, but has acquired a growing cult audience since its DVD release last year.
Starz will now debut the film on Blu-ray November 6. Tech specs included 1080p video and uncompressed PCM 5.1 audio.
No supplemental details have been released, but seeing as the standard-def DVD comes loaded with extras, hopefully the Blu-ray will include some if not all of the same material.
List price is $29.95.
We've added a new listing for 'Beowulf & Grendel' to our Blu-ray Release Schedule, under November 6.

Re-Configured 'Masters of Horror' Gets Staggered Blu-ray Release
Tue Jul 17, 2007 at 10:30 AM ETTags: Disc Announcements, Starz (all tags)
Starz Home Entertainment has unveiled a unique release strategy for what was originally expected to be its first Blu-ray title, the acclaimed Showtime anthology series 'Masters of Horror.'
Although early indications were that Starz was planning to release 'Masters of Horror' to Blu-ray as a complete first season box set, the company has instead decided to break up the series' first season into a series of four stand-alone volumes.
Each of the volumes will feature three to four episodes on a single BD-50 dual-layer disc, with Starz staggering the release of the complete first season throughout the fall.
First up is 'Season One - Volume One' and 'Season One - Volume Two' on October 16, followed by 'Season One, Volume Three' on November 13, and finally 'Season One - Volume Four' on December 11.
Tech specs include 1080p transfers (codec TBA), as well as uncompressed PCM 5.1 surround audio.
Supplements will mirror those found on the current standard-def DVD versions of 'Master of Horror,' which Starz (formerly Anchor Bay) released last year.
Retail price will be $29.98 per volume.
As with all Starz Blu-ray releases, 'Masters of Horror' will be distributed under the MGM Home Entertainment banner.
We've added all four volumes of 'Masters of Horror' to our Blu-ray Release Schedule, under their respective dates. Stay tuned for final details including box art in the days ahead.

Starz to Unleash 'Halloween,' 'Evil Dead 2,' 'Dawn of the Dead' on Blu-ray
Tue Jul 17, 2007 at 07:55 AM ETTags: Disc Announcements, Starz (all tags)
Nearly a month after formally announcing its support of the Blu-ray format, Starz Home Entertainment says it will release four horror film classics as its first Blu-ray titles.
As we originally reported last month, Starz (formerly Anchor Bay) had been expected to launch its Blu-ray support with its 'Masters of Horror' anthology. Not to worry, 'Masters of Horror' is still bound for Blu-ray beginning in mid-October, but in a surprise announcement, it turns out four other titles will hit store shelves first.
Arriving in stores October 2, the distributor will unleash John Carpenter's 'Halloween,' the horror-comedy 'Evil Dead 2' and two installments in George A. Romeo's original "Living Dead" franchise, 'Dawn of the Dead' and 'Day of the Dead' in first-ever high-def versions.
Tech specs will include full 1080p video transfers (codec TBA), and Starz has also elected to go with uncompressed PCM soundtracks for the audio.
No supplemental details have yet been revealed. Note also that while 'Halloween' and 'Dawn of the Dead' have both been released in prior "Director's Cut" editions on DVD, no information is yet available on exactly which version(s) of the films will make Blu-ray.
Starz has set a suggested $29.98 list price for each title.
We've added listings for the quartet to our Blu-ray Release Schedule, under October 2. Stay tuned for final specs and box art in the coming weeks.
