Axiom Launches M100 Omnidirectional Speakers
Tue Mar 20, 2012 at 02:00 PM ETTags: Speakers (all tags)
You'll find 11 drivers controlled by two stereo DSPs in these speakers.
Axiom's new M100 omindirectional, linear field radiating, floorstanding loudspeakers are designed to eliminate the problem of lack of specificity that's commonly associated with bipole/dipole designs. To that end, the rear speakers have been customized and designating left and right channels to better separate rear firing audio.
The M100 packs a total of 11 drivers, including four 1" tweeters, four 5-1/4" mids and a trio of 6-1/2" woofers. It's just a half inch short of being four feet tall and comes in at 9-1/4" wide and 17" deep.
Axiom M100 floorstanding speakers will be able to be purchased starting on June 15th, directly from Axiom. Pricing will be $3,760 a pair in Boston Cherry or Black Oak.

Axiom Audio Intros the VP160 Center Channel Speaker
Tue Feb 07, 2012 at 12:00 PM ETTags: Speakers (all tags)
You'll find 6.5" woofers, a 5.25" mid, and a 1" titanium tweeter.
The folks at Axiom Audio felt they needed to make a center channel that could match up with their M60 tower speakers and created the VP160 for just that purpose.
The VP160 features a pair of 6.5" woofers, a 5.25" mid-woofer and a 1" tweeter - the same lineup as the M60 tower. Since the drivers are the same, there's no disparity between the center channel and floorstanding speakers, giving you a nice even sound.
Axiom's center channel is definitely not ready to be hung on a wall, coming in at 43 pounds. It's made to be put on a dedicated shelf or a stand the company sells separately.
You can pick up the VP160 now at a price of $570.

Lansche Audio's No. 7 Loudspeakers Use Electricity and Air Instead of Traditional Tweeters
Wed Jan 25, 2012 at 12:00 PM ETTags: Speakers (all tags)
They come in at $100,000 a pair. Also newly available are the company's 5.1 speakers, which sell for a more modest $45,000 a pair.
The Lansche Audio No. 7 is a fantastic looking speaker. It stands just over 5-1/2 feet tall and comes in either a Satin, High Gloss or Piano Black Lacquer finish.
Lanche's passive speakers offer a new version of the company's Corona Tweeter, which uses an electric arc that uses the air as a transmission medium. There's no dome - just electricity and air. Lansche says that this is the closest anyone has yet come to a zero mass sound source.
The No. 7 also offers a pair of 4" mid-range drivers and four 8.7" woofers for bass response as low as 25Hz. You can pick it up now from Aaudio Imports of $100,000 a pair.
The No. 5.1 three-way loudspeaker uses the same Corona Plasma Tweeter to provide the highs, but only utilizes one mid-range driver and two woofers. Despite having fewer bass speakers, it still gets you down to a frequency of 32Hz.

The new SA-10 and SA-10R from Trends Audi offer a nice looking speaker with some nice audio stats at a nice affordable price.
The speakers are fairly similar in design, both using a 1" polymer dome tweeter and a 5-1/2" woofer with a pulped paper cone. Both the larger speaker and the tweeter are wide-dispersion so you won't have to worry too much about finding the exact sweet spot.
Both feature a front-mounted bass port that allows a frequency response as low as 65Hz and can be driven by between 15 and 70 watts of power. The main difference between the two is that the SA-10 features a center mounted tweeter while the SA-10Rs have one tweeter towards the left and one toward the right.

Atlantic Launches New AT-2 H-PAS Bookshelf Speakers
Fri Dec 16, 2011 at 12:00 PM ETTags: Atlantic Technology, Speakers, Bookshelf Speakers (all tags)
The 16" speakers boast frequency response as low as 41Hz.
The folks over at Atlantic have put their H-PAS technology into a pair of bookshelf speakers that are able to produce distortion free bass at frequencies down to 41Hz. That's a good chunk lower than most other speakers of the same size and specs.
Atlantic's AT-2 utilizes a 5-1/4" long-excursion woofer and a 1-1/8" tweeter to reproduce the highs and lows. The tweeter is the same one you'll find in the AT-1 and has a crossover frequency of 2,200Hz.
Atlantic Technology president, Peter Tribeman says that the H-PAS algorithm has worked remarkably well in adaptation to the smaller AT-2. He adds, "These new bookshelf speakers are going to have lots of people looking futilely for a hidden subwoofer."
The AT-2 is available now at $1,800 a pair.

Aperion Expands the Intimus Loudspeaker Lineup
Mon Nov 07, 2011 at 12:00 PM ETTags: Aperion, Speakers (all tags)
The speakers are designed for the best possible sound at more affordable prices.
Aperion recognizes that things are rough all over and has designed a set of speakers to meet the needs of those without too much cash lying around. "Our design goal for the updated Intimus series," says speaker engineer Ken Humphries, "was to deliver an even better value to end users without impacting the sonic performance."
Humphries says that he and his team took a look at the Intimus series and determined just what each piece of the speaker contributed to the overall product, finding a few things that were just plain unnecessary. "For example," says Humphries, "most home theaters now use LCD or plasma TVs, so we eliminated the magnetic shielding used to prevent speakers from distorting the picture on CRT TVs."
Pricing for the new Intimus speakers is $130 for the center channel, $550 for a pair of L/R towers and $220 for each pair of satellites. The cherry finished models are out now while ash black comes at the end of November.

Paradigm Shift Reveals A2 Bookshelf Speakers
Thu Sep 15, 2011 at 12:00 PM ETTags: Speakers (all tags)
The Active Atom speakers are designed to suit multiple purposes and work in tandem or solo.
Paradigm Shift is a bit of a presumptuous name, but their new Active Atom speakers are fairly impressive for what they are.
The A2, as Paradigm Shift calls it, is a bi-amped speaker that offers 100 watts of power per speaker. It has a pretty decent frequency response for a smaller speaker - 55Hz on up to 20kHz. You'll find a 5-1/2 inch aluminum cone woofer and a 1 inch aluminum dome tweeter.
In addition to doing the thing that a speaker is supposed to do - reproduce audio - the A2 packs Apple AirPlay for wireless streaming from your computer or Apple mobile device. You'll need an AirPort Express to make it happen though.
The Active Atom speakers from Paradigm Shift will be available in the winter of 2011 for a price of $279 each.

MartinLogan Debuts the Montis Loudspeaker
Fri Sep 09, 2011 at 10:00 AM ETTags: MartinLogan, Speakers (all tags)
It's inspired by the CLX and offers many of the same features as Martin Logan's flagship.
The Montis - no, not Mantis - is the latest speaker to come out of MartinLogan. If you've seen one MartinLogan speaker then you're familiar with the look and general principle behind the Montis, but the company's new electrostatic speaker is more than just nice.
The Montis offers the same controlled dispersion XStat technology and DSP engine that you'll find in the higher-end speaker, all of which combine to provide mid-range clarity and excellent performance on the lows. It also utilizes an electrostatic transducer that, thanks to several new technologies, has a radiating area twice that of older speakers.
Though the Montis is more than just a pretty face, it sure does succeed at being absolutely gorgeous. You can pick it up in a variety of wood finishes including a new Gloss Black Cherrywood. You can pick up a pair yourself later this month for $9,999.

MartinLogan Announces In-Wall and On-Wall Speakers
Thu Sep 08, 2011 at 02:00 PM ETTags: MartinLogan, In-Wall Speakers, Speakers (all tags)
Two more releases from MartinLogan, both of which borrow tech from flagship products.
The MartinLogan EFX is an on-wall speaker that uses a mix of technologies to produce what the company describes as reference quality audio. The EFX is also the slimmest on-wall speaker ever for MartinLogan.
Inside the EFX you'll find a crossover derived from the CLX loudspeaker and diaphragm with a conductive coating that's applied in an oxygen free chamber to ensure uniform and transparent application. It's also as close to mass free as you're likely to find. The CLX is available now at $3,095 a pair.
On the in-wall tip, MartinLogan is releasing the new Stealth series comprised of the Axis, Edge and Vanquish. A more badass sounding speaker you'll not find, though it's a bit odd for loudspeakers designed to be hidden away. Of course, if you want to show off, they're designed to look good without the magnetic grills. The Stealth series will hit in early 2012.
