Over 1,000 retail stores will carry the set, which comes in at right around $3,800.

When it comes to massive LCDs, Sharp is right on top of things. Their latest set, the LC-70LE732U, measures in at 70 inches. It's the first of its size for Sharp, and it's shipping to stores now.

The LC-70LE732U features an LED backlit screen, internet connectivity, and a 120Hz refresh rate. As you might expect, it also boasts the Quattron quad-pixel technology that Sharp is known for.

U.S. consumers are clearly voting for large screen television. It is the fastest growing segment," says Sharp's John Herrington. "Consumers are demanding big, they are looking forward to big and they want bigger."

This summer, Sharp will launch more sets in the 70 inch class size, including one that does 3D with active shutter glasses.

Sharp is Bringing Back Pioneer's Elite TVs

But will the quality live up to the name? We'll have to wait to find out.

HDTV enthusiasts remember the Pioneer Elite line fondly - especially the Kuro, which is still held up as one of the best ever on the market. Sharp knows this, and has licensed the Elite brand from Pioneer to market a new TV line.

Sharp says that the new Elite televisions will be among the company's premium offerings, and will consist of high-quality large-screen TVs. What you might not have expected is that all of Sharp's Elite TVs will be LCD.

"Adding a line of high-end flat panel TVs fills a market need in the industry and will help reinforce the strength of a complete Elite home theater offering," says Pioneer's Russ Johnston. "With its cutting edge LCD technology and unmatched production capabilities, Sharp is an important strategic collaborator that will deliver a whole new dimension to the large-screen home theater experience."

LCD Panel Inventory Building Up

Inventory is getting high, which means it's time for production to slow down.

LCD panels have been selling well, there's no secret about that. It seems that they haven't been selling quite as well as expected though, since major manufacturers are starting to pile up inventory.

According to a recent report by DisplaySearch, "Most brands are still facing high inventories for LED-backlit LCD TV models." That means that we're likely to see quite a bit of promotion for the LED backlit sets - companies want to move them before new models hit the shelves.

Research from iSuppli reveals similar findings, and speculates that the overabundance of LED backlit LCD televisions could result in lower prices to prevent oversupply.

"If panel suppliers can control production skillfully and rationally, 2011 can be very positive year for the LCD industry," says iSuppli's Sweta Dash. "On the other hand, excessive production in the first half may lead to an inventory buildup and oversupply in 2011."

Samsung Shows Off a 55 Inch LCD With an Incredibly Small Bezel

Sure, it's geared towards commercial applications, but that doesn't mean you can't set up your own video wall.

The book '1984' inspired many to think about the government's control over us, while others took from it a warning about rampant censorship. The folks at Samsung took a note from the novel too, and are working hard to create video walls.

Alright, so there's probably not really an Orwellian inspiration, but the company's new 55 inch sets are perfect for filling your walls from floor to ceiling with the ever present glowing screen. They've got bezels of 3.8mm on the top and left, while 1.9mm bezels are present on the bottom and right sides. That's a total of just 5.7mm of space between two sets side by side.

If you prefer a smaller set for your video wall, you can pick up a 46 inch model that features a total bezel of 7.6mm, which is 2mm larger, but still incredibly small. There's no word yet on when these sets will be available for public or commercial purchase.

Hitachi Launches a New Line of LCD Sets

Among the entry level sets is a pair of LED backlit TVs and a surprisingly cheap 55" LCD.

Hitachi may not be at the top of your brand list when shopping for a new HDTV, but if you're looking for something on the less expensive side, Hitachi's got it.

Among the assortment of televisions Hitachi is bringing to market this summer, two really stand out. The first is the UltraVision LE46S704. The LE46S704 uses LED edge lighting to illuminate the screen. It's capable of 1080p/120Hz and it's Energy Star 4.1 compliant. You can pick this 46 inch set up for $1,499.

If you're not as concerned about the backlighting, you can step up to the UltraVision L55S604. It's got four HDMI inputs with Instaport technology, which enables faster switching between inputs. It does 1080p/120Hz and it's even got CONEQ to simulate surround sound. The 55 inch S604 has an MSRP of $1,699, while the 46 inch step down runs $1,199.

NEC Announces a 42 Inch LCD Commercial Display

A commercial display, the V421 can be arranged in configurations of up to five by five.

The V421 might not be aimed at the consumer, but it has plenty of features that certain niche markets would find entirely useful. For starters, it's got a wide range of inputs, including HDMI, DVI-D, S-Video and the increasingly rare 5 BNC.

NEC's V421 offers up plenty of automation features too. It can be controlled and monitored remotely, and it can even be set to start up and shut down automatically at specific times.

One of the coolest features of the V421 is its ability to scale. You can hook up as many as 25 V421 televisions in a five by five configuration to make one giant display.

The V421 is shipping this July at a price of $999.

Sony to Launch LCD with Integrated Blu-ray Player

This might mark Sony’s quietest product launch ever. Sony’s KDL-40EX40B is available for pre-order now.

Have you heard about Sony’s 40” LCD with a built in Blu-ray player and a sale price of $899? Neither had we. It’s not unusual for a product to leak out here and there from various companies, but Sony tends to be a bit more bombastic about their new releases.

According to the information on the Sony Style site, the KDL-40EX40B is a forty inch 1080p television that’s got a Blu-ray player built right into it. It’s also got an ambient light sensor to detect your viewing area’s color temperature.

Sony’s Blu-ray LCD is DLNA compliant, so you’ve got plenty of options to stream from a home service. It’s got an Ethernet port built in and it’s WiFi ready, which simply means you can add WiFi capabilities with an adapter or dongle.

According to electronics site JR.com, the going price of the set will be $899, which would make this a surprisingly inexpensive TV. Sony, on the other hand, has no price information listed.
