Google TV's PrimeTime App Now Boasts Amazon Instant
Thu Mar 28, 2013 at 03:00 PM ETTags: Google TV, Android, Amazon Instant (all tags)
Updated Primetime app streamlines content selcetion.
As Amazon continues to emphasize Kindle hardware, one neglected user base for Amazon Instant Video is Android users. Fortunately for Google TV owners, they are no longer bundled into that particular neglected group.
Once users have updated their Google TV PrimeTime app, not only will they find Amazon Instant Video, including Amazon Prime content, but content from Amazon Prime and other subscription services like Netflix and HBO Go will appear in the Free content section if the user is logged in as a subscriber.
Google TV had previously supported Amazon Instant, but only on LG models.
Unfortunately, a quick look at the PrimeTime page on Google Play reveals that many users are having trouble with the update, so users may be wise to hold off for now.

Samsung Showing Off Official Controller Add-On for The Galaxy S4
Fri Mar 15, 2013 at 10:30 AM ETTags: Samsung, Android (all tags)
With a 360 inspired controller, the Galaxy S4 is in position to bring controller precision to the flagship Android phone.
Samsung's Galaxy line of phones have emerged from a horde of indistinguishable Android phones and even the shadow of Google's own Motorola line to be one of the hottest products current in production. That status as an innovative must-have product has never been more clear than now in the time leading up to the release of the latest model the Galaxy S4.
Along with the full reveal of the phone ahead of its April 26 release date is a peripheral that has the potential to succeed where so many other add-ons have failed. That peripheral is a yet unnamed controller add-on, which connects via Bluetooth, and contains a retractable cradle for converting the phone into a serious portable gaming platform.
The controller is very much in the mold of the 360 controller and is expected in May. More importantly, the pocket sized controller will be compatible with 80 Android titles at launch and has also been demonstrated as working well when the phone is outputting to an external display.

HBO Go for Android Finally Allows HDMI Output
Thu Feb 21, 2013 at 12:00 PM ETTags: HBO Go, Android (all tags)
Now you'll be able to take HBO content from your phone to your screen via MHL or HDMI
HBO is historically tight with their content. They're slowly getting more comfortable with allowing their shows streaming, but even their HBO Go app has had some significant limitations to it
.The most recent update to the HBO Go app lifts one particularly annoying limit. Android users are now able to send a video signal out through HDMI – an ability that was previously blocked. Now if you're traveling, at a friend's house or what-have-you, you can enjoy your HBO Go on, as it were, the go

The Ouya Is Up for Preorder at Major Retailers Ahead of Its June Release Date
Tue Feb 05, 2013 at 10:30 AM ETTags: Ouya, Android (all tags)
Ouya console and controller available for $99.99.
Ouya CEO Julie Uhrman told the Wall Street Journal "We need to carve out our own niche."
With 68,000+ consoles on order after the $8.5 million Kickstarter campaign, the Ouya will attempt to replicate and extend the mobile game marketplace in the home. The system is built and marketed around being open to customization and custom use. Even the system's additional controllers, available for $49.99, can be purchased and used for other Bluetooth compatible systems.
System backers will get their orders in March, well ahead of the official June launch. "Ouya offers a very different value proposition to the gaming you can currently experience. It's a box designed specifically for the television that leverages the screen, we support 3D gaming, HD, we support the controller, we added a touchpad to the controller. The kind of content you'll see on Ouya, it'll be inventive and creative and has never been on the television... We’re bringing the best screen and the best device to interact with that by creating a platform that is open... We’ve had 68,000 backers, we have more than that in pre-orders today."

Ouya – An Open Source Android Game Console is on the Way
Wed Jul 11, 2012 at 12:30 PM ETTags: Ouya, Android, Kickstarter (all tags)
The company has already tripled its goal on Kickstarter and there are 28 days left to go.
When new game consoles are announced, they're often met with skepticism and a healthy dose of "yeah, good luck with that." Ouya seems to be different.
The game console comes in at a mere $99 and, at least on Kickstarter, an extra controller will run you $30. Every single game will, at the very least, have a free demo. You won't be paying for a game you haven't tried.
It's customer friendly in its price, but also in the customizability. Because it's an open source console, the folks behind Ouya actually encourage you to hack it and use it as you see fit.
It's an Android based console, which allows developers a low price of entry and ease in making games. Compare that to the big three, which charge massive licensing fees and require a huge amount of investment.

Epson Launches Moverio 3D Video Glasses
Tue Apr 03, 2012 at 12:00 PM ETTags: Personal Media Viewers, Epson, Android (all tags)
In addition to the ability to play back video files, they pack Flash 11 Support so you can stream content as well.
The Epson Moverio BT-100 wearable video display boasts the ability to show you content on a virtual 80 inch screen, including side-by-side 3D, and it's the first of these personal media devices to be based on the Android platform.
The Moverio plays back digital video files that can be stored on the 1GB of internal storage or included 4GB microSDHC card – you can expand that to 32GB – but Epson doesn't list what video files are supported by the device. Thanks to Flash 11 support though, you'll find it compatible with a great deal of video streaming websites. It's unclear from the press release whether the Silverlight based Netflix is supported or not.
Epson's personal media device handles 2D as well as 3D content and Dolby Mobile Surround helps to provide the best sound possible.
The Moverio BT-100 is available for preorder on Amazon at a price of $699. The display will be released on April 6th.
