In addition to the ability to play back video files, they pack Flash 11 Support so you can stream content as well.

The Epson Moverio BT-100 wearable video display boasts the ability to show you content on a virtual 80 inch screen, including side-by-side 3D, and it's the first of these personal media devices to be based on the Android platform.

The Moverio plays back digital video files that can be stored on the 1GB of internal storage or included 4GB microSDHC card – you can expand that to 32GB – but Epson doesn't list what video files are supported by the device. Thanks to Flash 11 support though, you'll find it compatible with a great deal of video streaming websites. It's unclear from the press release whether the Silverlight based Netflix is supported or not.

Epson's personal media device handles 2D as well as 3D content and Dolby Mobile Surround helps to provide the best sound possible.

The Moverio BT-100 is available for preorder on Amazon at a price of $699. The display will be released on April 6th.

Netflix Gives a Peek at the Testing Process for Android Devices

Mon Mar 19, 2012 at 10:00 AM ET

Needless to say, there’s a lot going on.

The folks at Netflix have decided to let folks in on just what goes on behind the scenes when it comes to Android. The rollout to Android devices was initially quite slow and still isn’t at the point that everyone would like it to be – especially folks that own incompatible Android phones.

There’s quite a bit of coding that has to happen to make each device work, since Android devices use different hardware, have different screen sizes and even different operating systems. Netflix uses an automated system on an array of devices to run their tests and they even make efforts to ensure that the service works on phones and devices with custom ROMs.

You can find the full details over at the Netflix Tech Blog.

The company’s Android based tablets have gotten a boost to the new operating system.

If you’re rocking an Archos G9 tablet, then you’re eligible for a free upgrade to the Android 4.0.3 operating system, or as its more deliciously referred to, Ice Cream Sandwich. It’s an over-the-air update which means all you need to do is tap the “A” in the upper right hand corner of your screen and wait for the software to download and install.

In addition to everything the OS update brings – faster browsing, customizable screens and more – Archos is adding 1080p video file support, DLNA support and compatibility with MKV3D files.

Google TV Patent Shows Voice Control is on the Way

You can also control your set when you're away from home, getting the TV ready for you when you walk in the door.

The Google TV platform is constantly improving thanks to both Google and 3rd party developers. The latest innovation comes directly from Google and will prove to be really interesting if it works out. According to a patent filed with the Patent and Trademark Office, Google will be working on voice control for Google TV devices.

You won't need a new TV or a webcam to make it happen - voice control will happen through your Android phone. No word yet on whether other devices will work or not. The app will use your GPS data, time and date to get you the most accurate information and predict what you're looking for. If you ask what time football starts, your device will show you results for your local team.

Finally, the app will allow you to control your Google TV from up to a quarter of a mile away. This allows you to get your favorite show ready to go before you get home, or as PC World's John P. Mello Jr. puts it, "for setting a romantic mood when you arrive home with a special friend" (or a special sandwich).

Time Warner Cable - Now Streaming to Your iPhone

Mon Jan 23, 2012 at 12:00 PM ET
Tags: iPhone, Android (all tags)

The company has finally rounded out its mobile apps to include the iPhone.

When creating mobile apps, companies have an order that they tend to stick with. it comes out for the iPhone, then Android phones and then the iPad. Sometimes it gets switched around, but the iPhone is almost always the first. Time Warner Cable, as it turns out, does things differently.

TWC TV, Time Warner's streaming app, is finally available on the iPhone, ten months after the same app was released on the iPad. Downloading it to your phone will allow you to manage your DVR, search through programming and, of course, watch TV on your phone.

There's no word from Time Warner on when the Android version of the app will be updated to include live streaming.

Yamaha Receivers Get iOS and Android Streaming Capabilities

The latest edition of the AV Controller app adds some very cool new functionality.

Yamaha's newest version of the AV Controller app for Android and iOS brings with it some new functionality. It's the kind of functionality that seems obvious in hindsight, but didn't enter into minds at launch.

You'll still be able to use your device as a remote control for your receiver and other Yamaha products, but now you'll be able to stream music directly from your phone or tablet to the receiver. Not too shabby for a free application.

You can pick up Yamaha's AV Controller on iTunes or from the Android Marketplace

OnLive Comes to iOS and Android Devices

Thu Dec 08, 2011 at 09:30 AM ET
Tags: iOS, Android, OnLive (all tags)

Custom touch screen controls are available for some games, others can use a wireless controller.

OnLive's cloud gaming service doesn't have much appeal to those with a killer gaming PC and console owners may find it hard to justify. There's an audience there though, and it's about to get bigger.

OnLive is hitting both iOS and Android devices this week along with a wireless controller. The apps are free, but the controller comes in at $49. The nice thing though, is that some of the games won't even require a controller.

Though initially created as PC games, Onlive says that touchscreen controls will work just fine with titles like 'L.A. Noire' which Rockstar came in to create custom controls for.

Google TV Update is Coming Next Week

Mon Oct 31, 2011 at 10:00 AM ET
Tags: Google TV, Android, Sony Internet TV, Logitech Revue (all tags)

The long awaited Google TV 2.0 is coming in early November, packed with new functionality.

When Google TV first launched, there was a lot of excitement about all of the potential it had. Then it came out and it turns out that the potential was just that - potential. The actual execution was disappointing.

A new update to the Google TV is aimed to make the service not only more functional, but something to be envied. It uses the same Honeycomb operating system found in Android tablets and includes capabilities like access to the Android Marketplace - something the old Google TV interface didn't have.

The first update will be coming to the Sony Internet TV this weekend while the Logitech Revue will be getting it shortly after. If the new operating system is as game changing as expected, that Revue may start looking pretty good compared to the $199 Boxee Box.
