If you're a PlayStation 3 owner, the choices are many, but we've got our eyes on a 'Battlefield 3,' 'GoldenEye' and 'Uncharted 3' set. Not looking for three games? Go in with some friends on a trio of games and split the price, bringing each game down to $40 instead of $60.

Target Doubles Shelf Space for Blu-ray; HD DVD Levels Unchanged
Fri Sep 14, 2007 at 04:39 PM ETTags: Target, High-Def Retailing (all tags)
The nation's second largest retailer has quietly doubled its shelf space for Blu-ray, while retaining previous levels for HD DVD.
According to an article published today by Video Business, industry sources began noting the change over the last several weeks.
Although the retailer had previously stocked an equal number of HD DVD and Blu-ray discs, spotchecks at several Southern California stores (and one in Philadelphia) indicated that while the Blu-ray sections had at least doubled in size, the HD DVD sections remained the same.
As we've previously reported, back in July it was announced that Target and Sony had signed an agreement that will bring Sony's BDP-S300 Blu-ray player to Target stores nationwide for the holiday season, with Sony reportedly paying a fee for aisle displays featuring both the players and Blu-ray discs.
At the time, the retailer emphasized that it has not chosen sides in the high-def format war, and would continue to carry software on both formats.
Target had no comment in response to today's Video Business story, but BDA chairman Andy Parsons trumpted the move.
"You’re going to get a clear message when you see more Blu-ray than HD DVD, and you’re going to think something is up," said Parsons. "The message to the consumer is that one of these [formats] is dominating. You’ll go with the masses and pick titles from the one that is likely to win."
For their part, HD DVD supporters minimized the impact of Target's decision, attributing it to Blu-ray's current sales lead.
"For a retailer to make a decision on shelving, it’s a very flexible decision," Alan Bell, CTO at Paramount Pictures told Video Business. "Retail might be shifting inventory around, but at some point, there could be diminishing returns."

Target Shoppers to See Blu This Christmas
Thu Jul 26, 2007 at 12:46 AM ETTags: Target, High-Def Disc Marketing (all tags)
In a story that swept across the web Tuesday afternoon, Target has announced plans to help promote the Blu-ray format during this year's critical holiday shopping season.
The nation's second largest retailer already sells software on both next-gen formats in its stores, along with both the Blu-ray enabled PS3 and the Xbox 360's HD DVD add-on player.
But starting in October, the retailer says it will begin stocking its first stand-alone high-def disc player -- Sony's BDP-S300 Blu-ray player, which will be displayed along with a selection Blu-ray discs at the ends of store aisles.
According to press reports, the Sony Blu-ray player will the only stand-alone high-def disc player sold by the chain in its 1,500 physical stores. Although Sony is reportedly paying a fee for the aisle displays (called "endcaps"), the manufacturer says Target initiated discussions to carry the Blu-ray player.
Target declined to comment on the rationale behind the decision, but in a statement released to the Assiciated Press, the retailer emphasized that it has not chosen sides in the high-def format war.
"We are not proclaiming one format vs. the other as the preferred consumer technology, and software will continue to be available to our guests in both the Blu-ray and HD DVD format," said Target spokeswoman Brie Heath.

Target Hits High-Def Bulls-Eye
Mon Oct 23, 2006 at 12:39 AM ETTags: High-Def Retailing, Target (all tags)
After sitting out high-def's launch, retail giant Target quietly began carrying HD DVD and Blu-ray titles this month in its 1,000-plus stores nationwide.
While Target's adoption of the next-gen formats has been known to (and discussed) among next-gen DVD enthusiasts online for over a month now, the company itself has yet to issue any formal announcements. Home Media Retailing recently took an informal survey of Target's top outlets and found that have all begun carrying both Blu-ray and HD DVD software.
Both new releases and catalog were offered at a discount, with stores evenly allocating shelf display of Blu-ray and HD DVD titles side-by-side. Target's in-store marketing displays also explained that an HD DVD or Blu-ray player is required to play each format's respective software.
Despite the lack of a concentrated high-profile push for HD DVD and Blu-ray, the support of Target can only be seen as a major positive for both next-gen formats. HMR also found that local Target clerks were expecting the chain to carry both the Blu-ray-driven PlayStation 3 and Microsoft's HD DVD add-on drive for the Xbox 360, which should also help boost consumer awareness and sales for high-def hardware.
We can only hope Target's customer service staff is a bit more knowledgeable than Best Buy...
