Onkyo’s New Network Capable 9.2 Channel Receivers

Audio streaming in nine channels and two independent subs!

In a press release earlier this week, Onkyo lifted the veil from their most versatile A/V receivers yet. A well known name when it comes to quality, Onkyo is embracing the demand for network and streaming integration, and with the announcement of the ‘Double-0’ series of receivers, it really shows.

The trio of receivers, models TX-NR1007, TX-NR3007 and TX-NR5007, provide networking capabilities with a built in Ethernet port. Capable of streaming Pandora, Rhapsody, vTuner and Sirius Internet Radio services, the new line is also fully DNLA capable and Windows 7 compatible. Paul Wasek, Onkyo’s marketing director is excited about the potential of these receivers stating, “These receivers take home theater to the current frontiers of networking, audio, and video performance."

Video processing, including upscaling to 1080p/24, on the two higher end models is done by an advanced HQV Reon-VX chipset. Audio processing is handled by TI Aureus DSP chips, and digital audio conversion by Burr Brown DACs. Perhaps most interesting is the 9.2 channel sound processing.

“You can have a full-tilt 9.2-channel theater using Audyssey DSX or Dolby ProLogic IIz, or a great five-channel theater with added power to the main speakers or to additional stereo zones” said Wasek of the ‘Double-0’ line “the list of possibilities is a long one”

Also announced: the less powerful, non networking TX-SR707.

Onkyo announced today that they are shipping the TX-NR807 and the TX-SR707, the newest in the x07 line. There are improvements all around, but perhaps most noticeably is the NR807’s networking capability.

Hooking up via an Ethernet port, the NR807 is able to stream audio directly from your PC in real time. In addition, users will also be able to stream popular music services, like Pandora and Rhapsody, directly from the internet.

Both receivers feature Dolby Pro Logic IIz processing, Audyssey equalization technologies and Faroujda 1080p upscaling. The SR707, at an MSRP of $899 has a 7 x 100 Watts power amplifier section, with the $1099 NR807 boasting 7 x 135 Watts.

Onkyo Shows New Line of AV Receivers

Just a week after showing their new HTiBs, Onkyo is showing off a new line of receivers, aimed at giving customers the best value for their money.

In their words, “In these testing economic times, you can trust Onkyo to deliver maximum bang for your hard-earned buck.”

First up is the HT-RC160, selling now at a MSRP of $549, which offers 7.2 channel processing, five HDMI 1.3a inputs, analog to HDMI video upconversion and a strong range of audio decoding options. Also included in this receiver is the increasingly popular Dolby Pro Logic IIZ, which adds a new vertical dimension to sound.

Fewer details are available about the upcoming HT-RC180, which is due later this month, aside from the THX Select2Plus certification and networking capabilities, giving customers access to Pandora, Rhapsody and more. The suggested price for the HT-RC180 is a less recession-conscious $1049.

In addition to their solid, but perhaps prohibitively priced Blu-ray player, Onkyo has announced a pair of home theater systems that look very competitive.

As they’re much better known as audio specialists than generalists, the HT-S7200 and HT-S6200 are right in Onkyo’s wheelhouse.

Both packages include receivers with 130 watt per channel amplification, and featuring Dolby’s new IIz processing. The S6200 includes four 1080p capable HDMI inputs, while the S7200 boasts one additional input as well as the ability to upscale composite and component inputs to 1080i.

Adding to the package is a grouping of seven speakers including four surround speakers, two front speakers which upgrade to tallboys for the S7200, a horizontal center channel and a 230 watt bass reflex sub with a ten inch woofer.

A bevy of connection options are available as well, including a simple iPod/iPhone dock which integrates audio and video playback, and a one cord hookup to their optional HD Radio tuner. The S6200 runs $699, the S7200 sells at $899 and the speaker package is available separately at $499.

Onkyo’s $450 Profile 2.0 Blu-Ray Player

The DV-BD507, shipping now, is the latest offering from Onkyo.

Only the second Blu-ray player from the long standing consumer electronics company, the BD507 looks to be a pretty solid player, but a $449 price tag could make it quite a bit less attractive.

Onkyo’s player offers BD-Live support, outputs video to HDMI 1.3a at Full HD, and will play back AVCHD files stored on SD cards. It also have an Ethernet slot, but is not wireless out of the box, a wireless adapter needs to be purchased separately. The press release can be found here.

Premium home theater brand Integra has officially announced its first high-def disc player, the DHS-8.8 HD DVD player.

The DHS-8.8 will also include a bi-directional RS-232 port for integration with home automation and control systems, plus a series of high-end DACs allowing for custom analog audio/video connections with other home theater devices.

Integra says its new unit will be available in the fourth quarter of 2007 at a suggested retail price of $1099.

Onkyo's High-End HD DVD Player Due This Fall

Fri Aug 10, 2007 at 07:55 AM ET
Tags: Hardware, Onkyo (all tags)

After initially tipping its hand last June, Japanese electronics manufacturer Onkyo has officially announced that it plans to release its first HD DVD player this fall.

Having developed a solid reputation among home theater enthusiasts for their top-shelf A/V components, Onkyo's products are never inexpensive, but their customers will tell you they're worth it.

Looking at the price tag and the specs for the company's forthcoming DV-HD805 HD DVD player (view the full press release here), it seems Onkyo plans to continue in that tradition. Priced at $899, the company says its new HD DVD player was designed as a companion piece to its 2007 line of high-end audio receivers.

As such, the deck will be one of the first HD DVD players to stream all high-resolution audio formats via HDMI version 1.3a, including Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio and uncompressed PCM, as well as standard Dolby Digital-Plus and DTS-HD High-Resolution Audio.

The DV-HD805 will also be capable of native 1080p/24 frames-per-second video playback, and support web-enabled network connectivity per the HD DVD spec, allowing for new and unique content such as additional online supplemental materials and bonus features.

Finally, the manufacturer is touting the player's built-in HQV Reon VX video processor, which promises to deliver exceptionally precise video scaling, regardless of the resolution of your discs and/or display device.

Onkyo is the second high-end electronics manufacturer to officially throw its hat in the high-def format wars this past month -- Denon recently announced plans to launch its own similarly featured Blu-ray player, at the whopping price of $1,999.

Needless to say, we'll keep you posted as soon as further details and confirmed street dates are officially announced. Watch this space!

Onkyo to Bow First DTS-HD Master Audio-Capable Receiver

Tue May 08, 2007 at 12:02 AM ET
Tags: Hardware, Onkyo (all tags)

Onkyo Electronics has announced plans to release two new A/V receivers later this year, each supporting full DTS-HD Master Lossless Audio and Dolby TrueHD decoding.

The TX-SR605 is due in late May, with an MSRP of $599. It will be followed later this fall by high-end THX Ultra 2-c certified TX-S4806, which will list for a cool $1099.

Both units are the first next-gen hardware to hit the market capable of decoding DTS-HD Master Lossless Audio at their full resolution, via HDMI V1.3A connections. Until now, there has been no way to enjoy DTS-HD soundtracks on Blu-ray and HD DVD discs at their full potential, as all current next-gen receivers and players have, at best, only been able to extract a standard DTS 1.5mpbs "core" audio stream from DTS-HD-encoded discs.

Further details for both Onkyo models have been added to the company's official website: click to visit the TX-SR605 product page and the TX-SR805 product page.

We'll certainly be excited to add full DTS-HD decoding to our setup here at High-Def Digest, and watch for reviews of discs with DTS-HD Master Lossless Audio soundtracks beginning as soon as the Onkyo players hit the market. Stay tuned!
