Hulu Plus is up to 2 Million Subscribers

Hulu Plus may not be a dominant force in the streaming game, but the TV streaming service is doing pretty well for itself. In the first quarter of the year, 500,000 new people joined Hulu Plus, bringing the total number to above 2 million. Of course, just how many people watch without a subscription would be a very interesting revelation indeed.
Comparing Hulu Plus to Netflix reveals that the subscriber base, while impressive, is far short of what it could be. The folks at Netflix are able to boast 23 million total subscribers, 2 million of which are outside of the US.

Hulu Plus Now Available on Nine More Android Devices

Many Android owners have a new option available for video streaming on their phones.
Android is incredibly customizable. The downside is that Android devices aren't all built to the same standard, which leaves developers having to make adjustments for individual products.
Hulu has been hard at work on getting more Android devices up and running and has now released the Hulu Plus app to nine new devices, including the HTC Flyer tablet and eight smartphones.

Hulu Signs Deal with Miramax for Hulu Plus Content

Some studios are hesitant when it comes to streaming content, but Miramax seems to have embraced the new format. Not only did they sign a significant deal with Netflix recently, they've also announced an arrangement that will bring their content to Hulu as well.
Hundreds of movies have been added to Hulu Plus for subscribers to watch now - in HD where available. The list includes titles like 'Pulp Fiction,' 'Scream,' 'Swingers,' and 'Good Will Hunting.' Fifteen of those movies will be rotated into free viewing every month, though you'll have to watch them with ad breaks.
"Making our films available via premium digital distribution channels is extremely important to Miramax," says Miramax CEO Mike Lang. "As one of the early promoters of Hulu and its CEO Jason Kilar, I couldn’t be more excited than to be in business with them today."

Streaming Services Not Available on TiVos From Cable Companies

Planning on a TiVo Premiere from your cable company? You might want to think twice.
The TiVo Premiere isn't a revolutionary device, but it's still a great DVR that offers plenty of options including access to Hulu Plus and Netflix streaming services. That is, assuming you didn't get it from your cable company.
The issue was first noticed by customers of Suddenlink cable, who has been shipping out TiVo Premieres without availability to the two major streaming services. Apparently both Hulu and Netflix are unable to deliver content to DVRs supplied by cable companies.
It's a huge blow to customers who are expecting this content, but it's hard to say who to blame. No one looks good in this. TiVo boasts access to services that it can't deliver, Suddenlink provides the less capable DVRs to customers and puts the blame on both Netflix and Hulu.

Hulu Plus Launches At $7.99 a Month

A lower price for the official debut could make the service more attractive to consumers.
The launch process for Hulu Plus has been a confusing one. The preview service was available upon request but only on certain devices and on the PS3 the market was further segregated by offering the service only to PlayStation plus subscribers.
Now that things are official it gets a little easier. Hulu is now available on HDTVs, Blu-ray players, set-top boxes, mobile phones, game systems and tablets. There's no invitation needed, just download the app and get streaming.
It's easier on the wallet too, since the price dropped from $9.99 a month to $7.99 a month. It's not cheap enough to make the service a must-have, but it's a little more reasonable at least.

The Boxee Box is Shipping – More Features Added

Netflix, Hulu Plus and more have been added to the Boxee Box, which is now shipping at a price of $199.
Boxee released a ton of information at their Boxee Box launch party last night, including new features, updated software and even a remote with a dedicated Netflix button.
Among the features that have been lacking in previous Boxee Box reveals, Netflix is the biggest. The folks at Boxee have heard the complaints and will have Netflix running on the box by the end of the year. Hulu Plus is coming too, though it's unclear whether you'll be able to get the traditional Hulu experience through the Box.
Of course, the Boxee Box still does everything they said it would initially. It plays back just about every video file around, handles streaming content like a champ and features new apps like Vice, Vevo and even a weather app.
The Boxxee Box is available now on Amazon for $199.

Hulu Plus Now Available on Sony TVs - Blu-ray Players and PS3 Coming Soon

Hulu Plus is still in the preview phase, but you'll no longer need to be a PlayStation Plus subscriber to get to it.
The Hulu Plus launch is still on the way. Eventually. It's coming at some point, but it's not here yet. In the meantime, those who signed up for the Hulu Plus preview can now access the service across a variety of Sony devices.
If you've got a Sony Internet TV or a 2010 Bravia, you can jump on right now and launch the Hulu Plus app from the Internet Video platform. You'll still need a subscription and a preview invite, but you can finally get Hulu on your TV.
Sony has announced that Blu-ray players , Blu-ray Home Theater Systems, network media players and even the Dash will be getting a Hulu Plus update soon, though they haven't specified a date. The PlayStation 3 already has Hulu Plus available to PlayStation Plus subscribers, but that's all going to change next week when the app becomes available to everyone.
