'Dexter' Coming to Blu-ray

Paramount has announced an early-January Blu-ray release for the first season of the hit Showtime series 'Dexter.'

A breakout hit for the network, the edgy serial killer drama is set to make its high-def debut when 'Dexter: The First Season' comes to Blu-ray on January 6.

Tech specs will see the entire 12 episode, 576-minute season spread across four BD-50 dual-layer discs in 1080p video and English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround audio.

There's no word yet on bonus features, nor a confirmed list price, but as always, we'll keep you posted.

Fox Announces 'Firefly' Blu-ray, Specs

Ending months of anticipation, Fox has confirmed a mid-November landing for 'Firefly,' which will come to Blu-ray as a three-disc set with multiple exclusive features.

After weeks of rumored street dates, Fox today issued the official press release for the complete 'Firefly,' which will hit Blu-ray on November 11 as a three-disc set containing the short-lived series' complete fifteen-episode arc.

Tech specs see three BD-50 dual-layer discs, presented in 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 and DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround. Audio options include French and Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround dubs, an additional German DTS 5.1 Surround track, and English, Spanish and Dutch subtitles.

Extras include audio commentaries with cast & crew on eight episodes, four featurettes ("Here's How It Was: The Making of "Firefly,'" "Serenity: The 10th Character," " Joss Sings the “Firefly” Theme," "Joss Tours the Set"), deleted scenes, a gag reel and audition tapes.

Exclusive to the Blu-ray is an additional audio commentary by executive producer Joss Whedon and actors Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk and Ron Glass (on "Our Mrs. Reynolds"), and the featurette "'Firefly' Reunion: Lunch with Joss, Nathan, Alan and Ron."

Suggested retail price for the Blu-ray has been set at $88.98.

'Band of Brothers' Blu-ray Gets November Launch

Following months of rumors, HBO has set a mid-November Blu-ray arrival date for the epic mini-series 'Band of Brothers.'

Though HBO first revealed their intention to bring the Tom Hanks & Steven Spielberg-produced war drama to Blu-ray earlier this year, they stopped short of confirming an exact street date. The studio has now issued an early alert to retailers pegging a November 11 release for the Emmy-winning series, which will come to high-def as a deluxe multi-disc box set.

As we're still awaiting the full press details for 'Band of Brothers' there are no tech specs or supplemental details available as of yet, though a set of extras comparable to the previous standard DVD release is expected. As always, we'll let you know as soon as further information comes to us.

Suggested list price for the Blu-ray has been set at $99.98.

Adding to its growing TV-on-high-def line-up, Warner has announced an early-November arrival for the first season of the network comedy 'Chuck.'

Though only a mid-level hit for NBC in its debut season, Warner has chosen to bring 'Chuck: The Complete First Season' to high-def on November 11, when it debuts the Blu-ray day-and-date with the standard DVD.

Spanning three BD-50 dual-layer discs, tech specs include 1080p/VC-1 video (1.78:1) and standard Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround audio.

Confirmed extras include a pair of featurettes ("Chuck's World," "Chuck on Chuck"), the "Chuck vs. the Chuckles" gag reel, "Declassified Scenes" (aka deleted scenes) and "Chuck's Online World," a gallery of web-originated mini-featurettes.

Suggested list price for the Blu-ray has been set at $39.98.

'Supernatural' to Make Blu-ray Debut This November

Warner has announced plans to bring the hit teen series 'Supernatural' to Blu-ray this November as a five-disc set packed with bonus features.

Now entering its fourth season on the CW, 'Supernatural: The Complete Third Season' will mark the series' high-def debut when Warner releases the set on Blu-ray November 11 (almost two months after the standard DVD hits in September).

Full tech specs are not yet in, but all 16 third-season episodes will be presented in 1080p video, and spread across five BD-50 dual-layer discs.

Confirmed extras will mirror the DVD release, with a pair of featurettes ( "From Legends to Reality: Supernatural Effects," "Impala Featurette: A Look Inside the Classic 1967 Chevrolet Impala"), "Scene Specifics" (a series of short segments showcasing the creative team discussing their favorite aspects of particular episodes), the "Ghostfacers Confessionals" mini-featurette gallery, a gag reel, and Digital Copy.

Suggested list price for the Blu-ray has been set at $79.98.

Fox Sets September Launch for 'Firefly' Blu-ray (UPDATED)

UPDATE:We've received word from Fox Home Entertainment that despite any online retail reports, the Blu-ray of 'Firefly' has not yet been scheduled. Although the title is planned for release, official confirmation of a street date is pending. We've updated our database in the meantime, and will keep you posted.

In news sure to thrill Browncoats, Fox has set a late-September touchdown for Joss Whedon's cult classic 'Firefly.'

As previously rumored, Fox had been planning a next-gen release for the short-lived but much-beloved series for months, though the studio had stopped short of confirming a release window.

Now, in an early announcement to retailers, the studio has scheduled a complete series set of 'Firefly' (the show ran for only one season) on Blu-ray for September 23.

There are no supplemental details available as of yet, but early retail listings indicate tech specs featuring 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video and an English DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround track.

An official press release is expected shortly, so we'll certainly keep you posted as further word comes to us.

Fox has confirmed specs and box art for 'Prison Break: Season Three,' which will hit Blu-ray this August with multiple bonus features.

As we've previously reported, Fox first alerted retailers to an August 26 Blu-ray bow for the third season of the hit action drama back in May.

The studio has now issued the full press materials for the Blu-ray, which will replicate past season sets with all episodes presented in 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video and DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround audio.

Extras include a pair of featurettes ("Orientation," "Breakout Episode"), additional behind-the-scenes footage with the cast, "Director's Takes" deleted material, and a bonus episode of the Fox TV series "The Unit."

Finally, Fox has unveiled a high-res peek at the Blu-ray cover for 'Prison Break: Season Three':


As previously announced, Fox has set the suggested retail price at $79.98.

A&E Dives into Blu with the History Channel's 'Universe'

A&E Home Video is jumping into Blu-ray with their debut high-def release, the hit History Channel series 'The Universe.'

Long one of the leading distributors of television and documentary programming on DVD, 'The Universe: Season One' will mark A&E's entrance into Blu when it hits stores on October 14.

Spread across three discs, all 13 first-season episodes will be presented in 1080i video (1.78:1) and standard Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround audio.

Extras on the set include the feature-length documentary "Beyond the Big Bang."

Suggested retail for the Blu-ray has been set at $79.98.

Universal Unwraps 'Heroes' Blu-ray Specs

Universal has announced full specs for the first two seasons of 'Heroes,' which will hit Blu-ray this Summer with a bevy of bonus material and high-def exclusives.

As previously reported, Universal announced a August 26 Blu-ray street date for both 'Heroes: Season One' and 'Heroes: Season Two' (the latter day-and-date with the standard DVD version).

Now the full specs are in, with the first season spread across five BD-50 dual-layer discs, and the second, shorter season (cut short by the writer's strike) only a four-platter set. Both releases will enjoy 1080p video and English DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround tracks, plus English, French and Spanish subtitles.

Supplements on 'Season One' will match the previous HD DVD release, with a bevy of extras including the 73-minute Premiere Episode (with optional audio commentary by show creator Tim Kring), four featurettes ("Making Of," "Special Effects," "The Stunts," "Profile of Artist Tim Sale"), an artwork presentation, and deleted scenes.

'Season Two' will include five featurettes ( "Heroes Season 2: A New Beginning," "Takezo Kensei: Sword Saint," "Genetics of a Scene," "The Drucker Files," "Generations After"), a series of additional NBC.com featurettes, deleted scenes, and a still gallery.

Both season sets will also come enabled with Bonus View (Profile 1.1) picture-in-picture commentaries with cast and crew (on select episodes), plus BD-Live extras including cast bios, MyScenes bookmark sharing, and more to be announced.

Retail price for 'Season One' has been set at $69.98 with 'Season Two' set at $49.98.

BBC to Debut First Season of 'Torchwood' on Blu-ray

BBC has announced their latest TV-on-high-def release, bringing the sci-fi hit 'Torchwood' to Blu-ray in September.

The futuristic British drama enjoyed an instant cult audience after it first premiered last year, and its freshman year will hit Blu-ray on September 16, when BBC debuts 'Torchwood: The Complete First Season' (day-and-date with the standard DVD).

All twelve first-season episodes are spread across six BD-25 single-layer discs, presented in 1080p/VC-1 video and standard DTS 5.1 Surround audio.

Extras are quite extensive, with audio commentaries on multiple episodes, a pair of multi-part documentaries ("Torchwood Declassified," "The Team and Their Troubles"), nine additional featurettes ( "Torchwood on the Scene," "Torchwood Out of this World: Weevil, Sex Gas," "Torchwood Out of This World: Ghost Machine, Cyberwoman, Fairies," "Torchwood: Sex, Violence, Blood and Gore," "Torchwood on the Road," "Torchwood: Moments in the Making: A Wing and a Prayer, Fight Night," "The Captains Log," "Torchwood Moments in the Making: Officer and a Gentleman, Bombing the Base," "Torchwood On Time"), and multiple deleted scenes and outtakes.
