Rumor: An Elder Scrolls MMO is On the Way
Mon Mar 19, 2012 at 10:30 AM ETTags: Bethesda, Skyrim, Elder Scrolls, MMORPGs, Rumors and Speculation (all tags)
Sources say that the game will be announced in May and will have massive E3 presence.
The 'Elder Scrolls' series has been impressive from the beginning, offering large worlds with seemingly infinite places to explore and countless quests and NPCs to interact with. For lack of a better term, they're a bit like offline MMOs – or if you prefer, MMOs are like online versions of Elder Scrolls games.
Either way, the line between the two is about to be broken completely. If rumors are to be believed, we'll be seeing an 'Elder Scrolls' MMO announced in May, with a huge E3 presence to follow it up. We've known for some time that ZeniMax and Bethesda were working on an online game, but this is the first indication that the followup to 'Skyrim' would be an online game.

Bethesda is Hiring for Next-Gen Consoles - Direct X 11 Experience a Plus
Tue Feb 28, 2012 at 01:30 PM ETTags: Skyrim, Elder Scrolls, Bethesda, Xbox 720, PlayStation 4, Wii U, Rumors and Speculation (all tags)
The studio has put out a job listing for folks wishing to develop for future hardware.
Whether new hardware is announced at E3 or not, we're on the verge of something new. Within the next few years, the Xbox 360 and PS3 will no longer be the big boys on the block - they'll be replaced with something that, presumably, will be on the bleeding edge of technology. If the endless rumors weren't enough, Bethesda has put out a hiring notice for a next-gen console developer.
Most of the job requirements are pretty standard. Bethesda is looking for people with experience developing for current generation consoles and the ability to work without constant supervision. One thing stands out though. The company says that DirectX 11 programming experience is a plus. That lends some credence to the rumors that the new Xbox will make use of DirectX 11.
This job listing could also refer to the upcoming Wii U, which Bethesda has been considering developing games for. It seems to be a safe bet that after the success of 'Skyrim,' Bethesda will want to stay on the core system train.

The Official 'Skyrim' iOS Map App is Free, Sort Of
Tue Feb 21, 2012 at 12:30 PM ETTags: Elder Scrolls, Skyrim, Bethesda (all tags)
It's a free 'Skyrim' map, assuming you don't really want to do anything with it. If you want things to be displayed on the map, you'll pay as much as $10.
The new 'Skyrim' app released by Prima Games is a free interactive map that lets you zoom around the world, including the nine capital cities. If you want any more info, you'll have to pay for it. There are 15 different things you can add to the map, like dragon mounds, primary locations, and shrines. Each of those 15 different thing costs $0.99 to unlock. If you want to get the whole thing in one go, you'll pay $10.
The map is interesting, but considering it only contains information that you could easily find online for free, shelling out $10 for it seems pointless. You can browse the map and zoom in to a very high level, but this doesn't seem like much more than a fun app to explore - it's usefulness is questionable, especially so long after the game's initial release.

'Skyrim' Creation Kit and High Resolution Texture Pack Available - 'Skyrim' 33% Off this Week
Wed Feb 08, 2012 at 10:30 AM ETTags: Bethesda, Creation Kit, User Created Content, Skyrim, Steam (all tags)
Not only will you soon have access to an impressive supply of created mods, but they'll look damn good too.
Today Bethesda has released the long awaited Creation Kit for 'Skyrim,' which means even more impressive user-created mods are on the way. Most players won't use the kit itself, but part of the appeal of the PC version is the amazing amount of user-created content that's on the way.
If you've been hoping for a better looking 'Skyrim,' you'll be happy to see the release of new high-resolution textures from Bethesda, downloadable as free DLC from Steam. The new textures take the game up a notch, but there are a few bugs in there, like the way some shadows end up or simply resolutions that did not get updated.
To celebrate the release of these two big improvements to the game, Bethesda is giving up 'Skyrim' at a 33% discount - just $49.99.

Skyrim 1.4 is Out on Steam Now - Console Updates on the Way
Thu Feb 02, 2012 at 10:30 AM ETTags: Skyrim, Bethesda, Steam, PC (all tags)
The patch fixes a crazy long list of bugs and gets things ready for the Skyrim Workshop
Today is the day that PC gamers can download the latest patch to the incredibly cool yet notoriously buggy 'Skyrim.' The list of bug fixes and quest fixes is impressive, with optimizations for memory and performance topping the list for both PC and PS3 versions of the game.
In addition to all these bug fixes, 'Skyrim' 1.4 makes way for the Creation Kit and adds support for the Skyrim Workshop. When the Creation Kit goes live, mod makers will be able to go full bore and do things to the game that were otherwise impossible - or just way too complicated.
PS3 and Xbox 360 owners will be getting patch 1.4 soon. Bethesda says that it's being submitted to Microsoft and Sony this week, so it's just a matter of getting the patch approved.

'Skyrim' Patch 1.4 Announced 'Creation Kit' for PC Mods Coming Soon
Fri Jan 20, 2012 at 12:30 PM ETTags: Skyrim, Bethesda, PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 (all tags)
You'll find plenty of bug and quest fixes to make your experience a bit smoother.
It's agreed by most critics and a good chunk of gamers that 'Skyrim' is a great game. It's huge, it's fun and it gives you a great deal of freedom in play style. What isn't as great though is the huge amount of bugs present in the title at launch.
Patch 1.4 will be getting rid of some of those bugs and improving some things along the way. Some of the big ones include game crashes while loading saved games, crashes related to AI and, well, other crashes. PS3 users will be happy to note that Bethesda has made "Long term play optimizations for memory and performance."
The biggest news comes for PC gamers, who will soon be getting access to the 'Skyrim Creation Kit' made specifically for those that wish to modify the game. The company has been releasing these kits regularly for its games and they've resulted in some very cool things. A date has not yet been announced for the kit.

Game Developers Choice Awards Nominees Announced
Fri Jan 06, 2012 at 11:30 AM ETTags: Game Developers Conference, Game Developers Choice Awards, Videogame Awards, Bastion, Dark Souls, Portal 2, Skyrim (all tags)
A few obvious titles are nominated, like 'Skyrim' and 'Portal 2,' but there are a few smaller games in the running, like 'Bastion' and 'Dark Souls.''
There are only a few videogame award shows worth watching, and the Game Developer's Choice Awards is one of them. Awards are voted on by the industry and given out at the Game Developers Conference, coming in early March. There aren't bikini-clad women or presenters that don't make sense or awards for "Best Game Fueled By Dew." It's not the Spike VGAs is the point.
This year's award nominations include most of the games you'd expect to see. 'Arkham City,' 'Skyrim,' 'Portal 2,' and 'L.A. Noire' appear in more than a few categories. Surprise hit 'Bastion' is all over the list as well, picking up nominations for Innovation, Audio, Best Downloadable Game and Best Debut.
There's another dark horse on the list and that's 'Dark Souls,' the follow up to 'Demon's Souls' from From Software. It's not only nominated for Best Game Design, but Game of the Year as well. That could certainly be a big upset considering the mainstream titles its up against.
