Arrow Video October 2024 4K UHD and Blu-ray Releases

The closer we get to October, the more studios and independent labels unleash the terrors of their horror archives! Arrow Video is the latest to deliver their slate of spooky tales on 4K UHD and Blu-ray. Some of these have appeared on either side of the Atlantic already, but we get a couple of new releases of old favorites to devour!

Given the wonderfully messy world of international rights issues, Arrow's October 2024 slate of discs is a mix of titles that have been released on one side of the Atlantic or the other. But now they're going to be available in both parts of the world which is great (if you didn't already import some of these). But then we're also getting a couple of first-time heavy hitters for our collections. So let's get to it.

    Cocaine Werewolf - Blu-ray Pre-order Announcement

Cleopatra Entertainment's 2024 horror-comedy Cocaine Werewolf will arrive on Blu-ray and DVD on August 13th. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be plans for a 4K UHD Blu-ray yet.

The outrageously bloody B-movie recently completed a positive International Film Festival circuit and was sold out at movie theaters across the United States this summer. Given the success of Cocaine Bear, we can only assume we're due for any number of drug-infused classic monster creature features. That's it! Creature from the Smack Lagoon! Marry Shelly's Meth-Enstein! Bram Stoker's Crackula

In the deep, shadowy woods of Pennsylvania, a low-budget film crew is blindsided by the arrival of a ravenous werewolf. When you mix this terrifying predator with cash, cocaine, and a cast of fresh-faced young actors, you get a chaotic, adrenaline-fueled disaster like no other.

From the legendary cult film director Mark Polonia, Cocaine Werewolf serves up an exhilarating blend of horror and comedy that will have you on the edge of your seat. This mind-blowing tale stars Brice Kennedy (Splatter Beach, Razorteeth), Jamie Morgan (Amityville Island, Return To Splatter Farm), Ken Van Sant (Bigfoot vs Zombies, Jurassic Prey), Titus Himmelberger (Cocaine Shark, Sharkenstein), Yolie Canales (Jurassic Shark 3, Amityville In Space), Jeff Kirkendall (Sharkula, Return To Splatter Farm) and Noyes Lawton (Jurassic Exorcist, Bride Of The Werewolf) and features a Goth-inspired soundtrack that includes The 69 Cats, Pink Fairies, Frontline Assembly, Switchblade Symphony, The Brains, Hollywood After Dark, and more. .

The Blu-ray includes stereo audio and the following supplements: Trailers, Slide Show, and a Blu-ray exclusive “Director’s Commentary” feature not available in any other formats!”

I Walked with a Zombie / The Seventh Victim: Produced by Val Lewton - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray - The Criterion Collection

Terror lives in the shadows in a pair of mesmerizingly moody horror milestones conjured from the imagination of Val Lewton, the visionary producer-auteur who turned our fears of the unseen and the unknown into haunting excursions into existential dread. As head of RKO’s B-horror-movie unit during the 1940s, Lewton, working with directors such as Jacques Tourneur and Mark Robson, brought a new sophistication to the genre by wringing chills not from conventional movie monsters but from brooding atmosphere, suggestion, and psychosexual unease. Suffused with ritual, mysticism, and the occult, the poetically hypnotic I Walked with a Zombie and the shockingly subversive The Seventh Victim are still-tantalizing dreams of death that dare to embrace the darkness.

    I Walked with a Zombie

Producer Val Lewton and director Jacques Tourneur elevated the horror film to new heights of poetic abstraction with this entrancing journey into the realm between life and death. When she takes a job caring for a comatose woman on a Caribbean island, a young nurse (Frances Dee) finds herself plunged into a mysterious world where the ghosts of slavery haunt the present and witch doctors have the power to summon the living dead. Sugarcane swaying in a moonlit field, the hypnotic beat of voodoo drums, the relentless pull toward death—the otherworldly atmosphere of this bold reimagining of Jane Eyre is as close as studio-era Hollywood ever came to pure dream-state surrealism.

    The Seventh Victim

“Death is good” is how producer Val Lewton summarized the message of his films, a credo that received its most explicit expression in this strikingly nihilistic shocker, the first film directed by regular Lewton editor Mark Robson. Kim Hunter makes her film debut as a young boarding-school student who, in search of her missing sister (proto-goth icon Jean Brooks), travels to New York’s bohemian Greenwich Village, where she uncovers a sinister shadow world of devil worshippers and murder. And what about that mysterious room furnished with nothing but a chair and a hangman’s noose? With its daring treatment of depression and queerness, The Seventh Victim has haunted the margins of cinema for decades, its radical bleakness undiminished by time.

    SPECIAL FEATURES

Demon Pond - The Criterion Collection 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray

Demon Pond - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray - The Criterion Collection

Japanese New Wave renegade Masahiro Shinoda transforms a classic Kabuki tale with his own extravagant visual style in this dimension-shattering folk-horror fantasia. When a lone traveler (Tsutomu Yamazaki) stumbles upon a remote, drought-stricken village, he finds himself engulfed in a whirlpool of myth, mystery, and magic: in a nearby pond reside spirits who hold the fate of the town’s inhabitants—including lovers Akira (Go Kato) and Yuri (Kabuki legend Tamasaburo Bando, who also plays the ethereal princess reigning over the water)—in their hands. Set to the swirling strains of electronic-music pioneer Isao Tomita’s synth score, Demon Pond blends theatrical artifice with cinematic surrealism for an aquatic-apocalyptic fable of human love and folly caught in the current of nature’s wrath.

    4K ULTRA HD BLU-RAY + BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES

    • 4K digital restoration, supervised by director Masahiro Shinoda and actor Tamasaburo Bando, with uncompressed monaural soundtrack

On the same date, German filmmaker G. W. Pabst's Pandora's Box starring Louise Brooks will be available only on Blu-ray.

Pandora's Box - The Criterion Collection

Pandora's Box - The Criterion Collection

One of the masters of early German cinema, G. W. Pabst seemed to have an innate talent for discovering actresses. And perhaps none of his female stars shone brighter than Kansas native and onetime Ziegfeld girl Louise Brooks, whose legendary persona was defined by Pabst’s lurid, controversial melodrama Pandora’s Box. Sensationally modern, the film follows the downward spiral of the fiery, brash, yet innocent showgirl Lulu, whose sexual vivacity has a devastating effect on everyone around her. Daring and stylish, Pandora’s Box is one of silent cinema’s great masterworks and a testament to Brooks’s dazzling individuality.

    BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES

    • New 2K digital restoration
    • Four musical scores, by Gillian Anderson, Dimitar Pentchev, Peer Raben, and Stéphan Oliva
    • Audio commentary by film scholars Thomas Elsaesser and Mary Ann Doane
    • Louise Brooks: Looking for Lulu (1998), a documentary by Hugh Munro Neeley
    • Lulu in Berlin (1971), a rare interview with actor Louise Brooks, by Richard Leacock and Susan Steinberg Woll
    • Interviews with Leacock and Michael Pabst, director G. W. Pabst’s son
    • PLUS: An essay by critic J. Hoberman, notes on the scores, Kenneth Tynan’s 1979 “The Girl in the Black Helmet,” and an article by Brooks on her relationship with Pabst

      New cover by Eric Skillman

And last but certainly not least, Harmony Korine’s feature film debut Gummo (1997) is headed for 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray and Blu-ray on October 22.

Gummo - The Criterion Collection 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray

Gummo - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray - The Criterion Collection

Harmony Korine’s debut feature is an audacious, lyrical evocation of America’s rural underbelly, and an elegy in the southern-gothic tradition of William Faulkner and William Eggleston. Shot in Korine’s native Nashville—standing in for the tornado-ravaged Xenia, Ohio—the rough-hewn film follows two young friends, Tummler and Solomon, as they ride around town, huffing glue and hunting stray cats, their every local encounter charged with vaudevillian anarchy as well as deep pathos. At once transgressive and empathetic, disturbing and undeniably beautiful, Gummo is a one-of-a-kind portrait of angelic and devilish souls caught in a cultural void, circumscribed by poverty and the depleted, alienated spiritual life of late-twentieth-century America.

    DIRECTOR-APPROVED 4K UHD + BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES

    • New 4K digital restoration, supervised and approved by director Harmony Korine, with 2.0 surround DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack
    • One 4K UHD disc of the film presented in Dolby Vision HDR and one Blu-ray with the film and special features
    • New interview with Korine
    • Conversation from 1997 between Korine and filmmaker Werner Herzog
    • Projections episode from 2000 featuring Korine in conversation with Split Screen host John Pierson
    • Trailer
    • English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing
    • PLUS: An appreciation by filmmaker Hype Williams

Gordon took a sharp right turn into ‘70s urban perversion with this “remarkably politically incorrect” (Rock! Shock! Pop!) crime shocker: A psycho citizen (Chuck Connors of THE RIFLEMAN and TOURIST TRAP) is planting deadly bombs across Los Angeles. A depraved rapist (Neville Brand of BIRDMAN OF ALCATRAZ and EATEN ALIVE) is the only witness who can identify him. And a deranged detective (Vince Edwards of Ben Casey and RETURN TO HORROR HIGH) will break every rule in the book to bust them both. Also known in various censored versions as THE POLICE CONNECTION and DETECTIVE GERONIMO, this “dynamite mix of grit and sleaze” (Flick Attack) is now scanned in 4K from the internegative for the first time ever with over 6 hours of explosive Special Features.

The Mummy and the Curse of the Jackals Blu-ray

The centerpiece of the radical underground Cinema Marginal movement, this “electric, legendary movie” (Slant Magazine) written and directed by 21-year-old Rogério Sganzerla defiantly attacked Brazil’s sociopolitical morals, gleefully subverted the rules of narrative cinema and has lost none of its power to shock, disturb and delight: Based on police reports of the real-life bandit who terrorized ‘60s São Paulo, a charismatic crook (Paulo Villaça) robs the rich, taunts law enforcement and becomes a public heroin an anarchic odyssey that’s equal parts crime thriller, urban western, grind house roughie, twisted comedy, cultural grenade and still unlike anything you’ve ever seen. Helena Ignez (José Mojica Marins’ EMBODIMENT OF EVIL) co-stars in this “hallucinatory and amazing manifesto” (Next Projection) now scanned in 2K from the original camera negative.

     Don't Change Hands Blu-ray

From iconoclastic French writer/director Paul Vecchiali (THE STRANGLER, FEMMES FEMMES) comes the wickedly perverse thriller that subverts the conventions of film noir by slyly flipping its traditional gender roles: When a prominent politician receives a pornographic film starring her son, she hires a hard-boiled private detective (Myriam Mézières of MY NIGHTS ARE MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN YOUR DAYS) to track down the blackmailer. But as bodies strip down, corpses pile up and suspects are never what they seem, will this case climax with the most shocking bang of all? Hélène Surgère (SALÒ), Howard Vernon (DRACULA, PRISONER OF FRANKENSTEIN), Michel Delahaye (THE SHIVER OF THE VAMPIRES) and Jean-Christophe Bouvet (Emily In Paris) co-star in this dangerously sexy drama scanned in 2K from the original camera negative.

A ravishing romance about three affluent New Yorkers caught in a tragic love triangle, the ironically-titled story chronicles the grandeur and hypocrisy of high society in the 1870s. At the center of the film is Newland Archer (Day-Lewis), an upstanding attorney who secretly longs for a more passionate life. Engaged to the lovely but ordinary socialite May Welland (Ryder), Newland resigns himself to a life of quiet complacency. REACHER: season two

After an amazing first season, Amazon didn't hesitate to bring Reacher back for Season Two. To whet our appetites for the third season of a really big guy punching people in the face, Paramount is bringing the second season of Reacher to Blu-ray on September 17. The 4K UHD Blu-ray will be another MOD.

Season two stars Alan Ritchson, Maria Sten, Serinda Swan, Shaun Sipos, Ferdinand Kingsley, Domenick Lombardozzi and Robert Patrick.

REACHER IS BACK – and this time it’s personal. In the heart-pounding second season of REACHER, when members of Reacher’s (Alan Ritchson) old military unit start turning up dead, he’ll risk everything to get revenge.

Pulled from his drifter lifestyle, Reacher reunites with three of his former teammates turned chosen family to investigate, including Frances Neagley (Maria Sten); Karla Dixon (Serinda Swan), a forensic accountant for whom Reacher has long had a soft spot; and fast-talking, switchblade-wielding family man David O’Donnell (Shaun Sipos). Together, they begin to connect the dots in a mystery where the stakes get higher at every turn, and brings about questions of who has betrayed them—and who will die next. Using his inimitable blend of smarts and size, Reacher will stop at nothing to uncover the truth and protect the members of his unit. If there’s one thing Reacher and his team know for certain, it’s that you do not mess with the Special Investigators. This season, get ready for Reacher and the 110th to hit back hard.

  • Tom Tykwer's 'Run Lola Run' Sprints For A Solo 4K UHD Disc July 30th

Posted Mon Jul 1, 2024 at 08:42 AM PDT by
Run Lola Run - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Sony Pictures Classics Single Disc

After enjoying a rest with the 13-Film Sony Pictures Classics 4K set, Sony is sending Tom Tykwer's iconic multiversal thriller 'Run Lola Run' to the solo-disc races. All indications are this is the same disc as before, only without ten other films... and possibly without a slipcover.

Run Lola Run is a hell of a film with a banger of a soundtrack. It looks amazing in 4K Dolby Vision and that German 5.1 mix is a beast. But, you'd only know that if you bought the 11-film Sony Pictures Classics 4K box set. Which is a great set if you wanted all of those other films. For those you didn't want the box set, well, Lola is taking another run on 4K, this time on her own! All indications for this press release tell me this is the same great disc as before. It doesn't indicate if the English and Spanish dubbed tracks will be included or not. My guess is that they will be and this is just a simple repackage without the custom slipcover - we've put in a question about that and when we get news we'll update. until then here's to 25 years of Run Lola Run

Run Lola Run - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray

  • Need a Hug? Five More Titles Get the Warner Archive Blu-ray Treatment this August

Posted Fri Jun 28, 2024 at 08:05 PM PDT by
Warner Archive Collection August 2024 Announcement

The Warner Archive Collection has announced and detailed their next wave of Blu-rays shipping at the end of August. The titles in this batch include: Words and Music (1948), Three Little Words (1950), Black Belt Jones (1974), Boulevard Nights (1979), and the complete animated series of Top Cat (1960-61).

Words and Music (1948) - Warner Archive Collection

Words and Music (1948) - Warner Archive Collection

Mickey Rooney, Tom Drake, Betty Garrett, Janet Leigh, and a host of top musical performers headline M-G-M producer Arthur Freed’s extravagant biographical tribute to the prolific songwriting duo of Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart. In the early 1920s, the diminutive Hart (Rooney) teams up with Rodgers (Drake) to launch a successful 24-year music career, penning nearly 500 songs with him until Hart's death in 1943 at the age of 47. Rodgers marries his dream girl (Leigh) while Hart pines after Peggy (Garrett), eventually spiraling into depression and death after her rejection. June Allyson, Perry Como, Ann Sothern, Mel Tormé, Cyd Charisse, Judy Garland, and Lena Horne are just some of the singing sensations featured. This is the last movie in which Garland and Rooney appeared together. It also boasts the first full-length modern ballet piece in a Hollywood movie: Choreographed and danced by Gene Kelly, with Vera-Ellen as his partner, "Slaughter on Tenth Avenue" provides the show-stopping seven-minute finale to the film. Among the hit songs performed are " "Blue Moon," "Thou Swell” "Manhattan," "Johnny One Note," "I Wish I Were in Love Again," "Where or When," and "The Lady Is a Tramp."

The Blu-ray will feature a new 2024 1080p hd master from 4k scans of original nitrate technicolor negatives and supplements will include: Commentary by Film Historian Richard Barrios, Featurette :A Life in Words and Music, Unused musical sequences: You’re Nearer (Perry Como), Lover (Perry Como & M-G-M Orchestra and Chorus). Audio-only musical outtakes. Classic MGM cartoon: THE CAT THAT HATED PEOPLE, Classic MGM Short: GOING TO BLAZES!

Three Little Words (1950) - Warner Archive Collection

Three Little Words (1950) - Warner Archive Collection

Bert Kalmar (Fred Astaire) always wanted to be a magician, but all it takes is a disastrous opening night to make his dreams go poof! So, Kalmar moves on and finds songwriting magic with collaborator Harry Ruby. The stage-and-screen songsmiths whose many tunes include Groucho Marx’s signature Hooray for Captain Spaulding receive a Hollywood hooray in this audience-favorite screen biopic featuring a hit parade and Kalmar and Ruby standards (including “(Nevertheless) I’m in Love with You”, “Who’s Sorry Now”, and the title tune). Astaire puts on his dancing shoes for dazzling duets with Vera-Ellen, and a tap solo. The film was a box-office smash and a wonderful showcase for the terpsichorean talents of Astaire and Vera-Ellen, and one of Red Skelton’s best screen performances, which gave him the opportunity for a more substantial acting role that did just rely on his trademark comic genius. The film also is highlighted by a star-turn by Debbie Reynolds who portrays boop-oop-a-doop sensation Helen Kane, performing “I Wanna Be Loved By You” to vocals provided by Miss Kane herself.

The Blu-ray will have a new 2024 1080p hd master from 4k scans of original nitrate technicolor negatives and bonus features include: THREE LITTLE WORDS: TWO SWELL GUYS, Classic M-G-M cartoon VENTRILOQUIST CAT, Classic M-G-M Fitzpatrick Traveltalks short ROAMING THROUGH MICHIGAN, Audio-only bonus PAULA STONE’S HOLLYWOOD USA RADIO PROMO, Original Theatrical Trailer.

Black Belt Jones (1974) - Warner Archive Collection

Black Belt Jones (1974) - Warner Archive Collection

A former International Karate Champion, Jim Kelly made a blazing screen debut with Bruce Lee in the martial-arts landmark ENTER THE DRAGON. Now as Black Belt Jones, Kelly’s fiery fighting expertise rips the screen apart in his first solo star turn, featuring Scatman Crothers (The Shining) and sultry Glory Hendry (Live and Let Die). Pop Boyd (Crothers) owns a thriving karate school near downtown Los Angeles. Unfortunately, it sits on a piece of land upon which a local mob wants to build its own “civic center”. When the gangsters’ muscling of Pop leads to tragedy, Black Belt Jones steps forward to exact his individual brand of lightning-charged revenge. Filmmaker Robert Clouse, who showcased Lee in Enter the Dragon and Jackie Chan in The Big Brawl serves up masterful action sequences of which Kelly said “every move was choreographed like a ballet”. That unique blend of ballistic combat and colorful comic characters make Black Belt Jones light on its feet – and heavy on entertainment!

The release includes a new 2024 1080p HD master from a 4K scan of the original camera negative as well as the original theatrical trailer.

Boulevard Nights (1979) - Warner Archive Collection

Boulevard Nights (1979) - Warner Archive Collection

You haven’t seen the true “colors” of vicious gang life in Los Angeles unless you’ve also seen Boulevard Nights. From Executive Producer Tony Bill (The Sting, Taxi Driver) comes this gritty drama that remains timely and powerful as when it first appeared in 1979. Said Bill: “Everything in this film is authentic. We’ve broken important new ground”. Today, the continuing problem of gang activity re-emphasizes the importance of this trailblazing film. It’s itsight into gang life remains vital. Boulevard Nights’ gang members are cholos from the city’s Mexican-American barrios, with the film taking a point of view of the gang kids themselves. Two of those kids are the Avila brothers. Raymond Avila (Richard Yniguez) is an ex-gang member trying to build a better life. Kid brother Chuco (Danny De La Paz) is a sullen low-rider, wasting his days with his angel-dusted gang. In spite of their differences, the brothers are bound by strong family ties. But those ties are violently tested when rivals challenge Chuco’s gang….and ignite a full-blown neighborhood war. In 2017 the film was selected for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”

The Blu-ray will have a new 2024 1080p master from 4K Scan of the original camera negative and the original theatrical trailer.

Top Cat - The Complete Series (1960-61) - Warner Archive Collection

Top Cat - The Complete Series (1960-61) - Warner Archive Collection

In the tradition of great screen conmen-one of the few with a visible tail- TOP CAT holds a top spot in the hearts of classic animation fans. The second of Hanna-Barbera’s prime-time network animated sitcoms, TOP CAT debuted on ABC television on Wednesday September 27, 1961. The series only ran for one season in prime-time, but continued to be popular through a mix of continued Saturday morning network reruns and syndication for more than three decades thereafter. Arnold Stang provided the voice of the smooth-talking New York City cat, known as T.C. to his gang of cohorts Benny the Ball, Choo Choo, Spook, The Brain and Fancy Fancy. These cats were always on the make toward a big score or swindle. And the bothersome – and ever exasperated- Office Dibble (voiced by legendary character actor Allen Jenkins) is relentlessly on Top Cat’s case (although always one step behind). This 4-disc Blu-ray set contains all 30 original episodes, newly remastered in 1080p HD from 4K scans off the original camera negatives, with the series offering top-shelf entertainment for fans. More than 60 years after it debuted, TOP CAT continues to be a comic delight of animated fun for audiences of all ages.

This release includes a new 2024 1080p HD masters from 4K scans of original camera negatives and the following supplements: Documentary: Back to Hoagy’s Alley: The Making of TOP CAT, Commentaries on episodes HAWAII, HERE WE COME, THE LATE T.C. and THE MISSING HEIR, STORYBOARD/FINISHED CARTOON SEQUENCE for THE MISSING HEIR; COOL CATS IN INTERVIEW ALLEY with archival interviews with members of the voice-cast including Arnold Stang, Marvin Kaplan, Leo de Lyon and Barry Blitzer, TOP CAT SING-ALONG, VINTAGE COMMERCIALS…and more!

The Warner Archive Collection Blu-rays listed above will be shipping on August 27. The pre-orders should be available soon.

The Chronicles of Riddick - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray (Arrow Limited Edition)

The Chronicles of Riddick - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray (Arrow Limited Edition)

Following the sleeper success of their breakthrough sci-fi/horror smash Pitch Black, writer-director David Twohy and star Vin Diesel reunited for 2004’s action-packed The Chronicles of Riddick, an expansive and ambitious sequel that took their eponymous antihero to the farthest reaches of the galaxy.

Riddick (Diesel) is an intergalactic fugitive whose dark past catches up with him when he is lured out of hiding by Imam (Keith David, The Thing), another survivor of the planet of horrors they barely escaped from five years earlier. Now out of the shadows, Riddick is identified by an ethereal emissary (Academy Award winner Dame Judi Dench) as the descendant of an ancient race of warriors who may be the universe’s last hope against the Necromongers, an evil army of fanatics intent on bending the world to their will. As enemies close in on all sides, including the ruthless Lord Marshal (Colm Feore, Thor) and his scheming lieutenant Vaako (Karl Urban, The Boys), Riddick finds himself a reluctant saviour of the cosmos, with only his razor-sharp wits and cunning killer instinct standing in the way of total annihilation.

At long last, Twohy and Diesel’s hard-hitting outer-space epic has been restored in glorious 4K, with hours of incisive bonus features exploring every detail of this densely-constructed and masterfully-executed mythology.

    The Threat (Arrow Limited Edition)

    The Threat (Arrow Limited Edition)

    IMPRISONED IN HIS OWN HOME!

The Threat is a gritty crime drama in the vein of Kurosawa’s High and Low, set against the backdrop of a rapidly modernizing Japan that has left many of its citizens behind.

Misawa (Rentar? Mikuni, Fugitive from the Past, Vengeance is Mine) appears to lead a charmed life, the very model of Japan’s post-war economic miracle. His position as the account manager of a prestigious advertising agency is enough to pay the mortgage on the spacious modern house he shares with his wife (Masumi Harukawa, Intentions of Murder) and their two young boys, kitted out with all the latest mod-cons. Then one day, the fragility of his existence is revealed when two violent jail-breakers turn up on his doorstep seeking refuge and threatening to embroil Misawa in their criminal activities.

Arrow Video presents this little-seen early masterpiece from Kinji Fukasaku, the future director of Battles Without Honor and Humanity and Battle Royale, for the very first time outside of its own country in a stunning new transfer.

A talented and versatile journeyman, director Sergio Martino (The Case of the Scorpion’s Tail, Your Vice is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key) lent his talents to multiple genres across his long and varied career, but is undoubtedly best known for his giallo thrillers from the early 70s. Among the most highly acclaimed of these, 1973’s Torso revels in the genre’s time-honored traditions while simultaneously laying the groundwork for the modern slasher movie.

A sex maniac is prowling the streets of Perugia, targeting the picturesque university town’s female students. Alarmed at the plummeting life expectancy of the student body, Jane (Suzy Kendall, The Bird with the Crystal Plumage) and her three friends elope to a secluded country villa – only to discover that, far from having left the terror behind, they’ve brought it with them!

Also known as Carnal Violence, Torso was released in Italy towards the end of the giallo boom before enjoying a second life on the American grindhouse circuit. Co-starring Tina Aumont (Salon Kitty) and Luc Merenda (The Violent Professionals), the film finds its director at the top of his game, delivering copious levels of violence, sleaze, and one of the tensest cat-and-mouse games ever committed to celluloid!

    Friday the 13th (2009) - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray (Arrow Limited Edition)

In 2003, director Marcus Nispel made a lasting impression on horror fans with his box-office-topping remake The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Six years later, he turned his camera to another slasher icon, none other than the hulking masked killer Jason Voorhees, in his gore-soaked remake of Friday the 13th.

A group of oblivious teenagers choose Camp Crystal Lake as the destination for a weekend getaway. Among them, the young Clay Miller (Jared Padalecki, Supernatural) is not looking for fun and frolics, but for his sister Whitney who disappeared around the lake six weeks earlier. The trip turns into a waking nightmare as the bloodthirsty Jason emerges from the shadows, wielding a deadly machete and out for blood. Cut off from civilization, these youths discover too late that Crystal Lake bears the scars of a violent past as they uncover the terrifying events that spurred the masked killer’s quest for violent vengeance.

Nispel’s taut direction and the stunning cinematography by Daniel Pearl – whose credits include the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre as well as the remake – bring a fresh and terrifying new perspective to the infamous hockeymasked maniac, sure to bring chills and thrills to even hardened horror veterans!

Love, Death & Apocalypse: Three Films by Álex de la Iglesia - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray (Arrow Limited Edition) (UK Import)

Outrageous, absurdist, grotesque! Often hilarious, always stylish, and utterly unpredictable, the films of Spanish director Álex de la Iglesia are an exhilarating shock to the cinematic system.

Produced by legendary provocateur Pedro Almodóvar, de la Iglesia’s debut feature Acción Mutante is a violent sci-fi black comedy set in a post-apocalyptic world where attractive people hold all the power and a terrorist group, who see themselves as mutants, take arms to rid the world of their superficial oppressors. With his second feature, The Day of the Beast (El día de la bestia) de la Iglesia delivered one of the greatest horror comedies of all time as a Catholic priest joins forces with a heavy metal fan, and the host of a popular occult TV show to kill the Antichrist on Christmas Eve. A critical and commercial success around the world, The Day of the Beast paved the way for gonzo action-crime-horror Perdita Durango, (aka Dance with the Devil) a Spanish-US-Mexican co-production based on a novel by Barry Gifford (author of Wild at Heart). Starring Rosie Perez (Do the Right Thing), a then little known Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men) and James Gandolfini (The Sopranos), Perdita Durango is a twisted tale of love, guns, drugs, voodoo ceremonies, and refrigerated foetuses...

Making their UK debut on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray with a wealth of new and archival extras, Arrow Video welcomes you to the delirious, diabolical and demented world of Álex de la Iglesia. Not for the faint of heart!

Caligula: The Ultimate Cut - 4K UHD & Blu-ray Unobstructed View Announcement

Unobstructed View is bringing Tinto Brass' newly restored 'Caligula: The Ultimate Cut' - the scene-by-scene reconfiguration of the controversial epic chronicling the Roman Empire’s most debauched emperor for a limited numbered 4K UHD Blu-ray release.

“We have been waiting for the right vehicle with which to amp up our US game and this film is it - notorious, rare and collectible,” says UV’s founder and President Jonathan Gross, who licensed UV’s rights from Drafthouse Films. “We are thrilled that Drafthouse Films has chosen to work with us. We are also thrilled to have Diabolik on board because they are a leading provider of curated home entertainment.”

Tormented by the murder of his family, the young, wary Caligula (Malcolm McDowell) eliminates his devious adoptive grandfather Tiberius (Peter O'Toole) and seizes control of the declining Roman Empire as it descends into a spiral of depravity, destruction and madness. Restoring the complete performances of McDowell and O'Toole along with fellow film legends Helen Mirren and John Gielgud, this extensive reconstruction of the notorious 1980 spectacle, based on the original narrative as conceived by writer Gore Vidal, had its world premiere at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. Showcasing the sumptuous costume designs of two-time Oscar winner Danilo Donati (Fellini's Cassanova; Romeo & Juliet), CALIGULA: THE ULTIMATE CUT features an entirely new score by Troy Sterling Nies, as well as a new animated title sequence by graphic artist Dave McKean (Arkham Asylum, The Sandman).
