Circuit City Preps Relaunch, First New Retail Store Set to Open in June[teaser]The previously defunct retail brand will live again. [/teaser] According to a report from TWICE, Circuit City is gearing up for a relaunch in retail stores and online. The brand was purchased by Ronny Shmoel, who plans to start a new website and open new brick-and-mortar locations. Though once very popular among consumer electronics retail chains (I even worked at one!), Circuit City originally went under back in 2008. The brand was then reconfigured as an online only website in conjunction with TigerDirect, but sadly that venture also failed. This third iteration is set to include retail locations, a website, branded products, kiosks, mobile stores, and franchise opportunities. New Circuit City stores will take on a comparatively stripped down design with touchscreen terminals and locations ranging in size from 2,000 to 4,000 square feet. Available consumer electronics will include smartphones, tablets, headphones, wearables, gaming products, and digital accessories. The first new Circuit City retail store is expected to open in June and will likely be located in Dallas, Texas. In addition, the Circuit City website is expected to relaunch at that same time as well. The company plans to have 50 to 100 corporate-owned stores by next year. Meridian Readies MQA High-Res Audio Firmware Update[teaser]Support for the new high-res audio format is coming to select Meridian products. [/teaser] Meridian has announced a release date for its Master Quality Authenticated (MQA) firmware update. Supported devices will be able to receive the update starting February 4. MQA is a studio quality high-res audio format that "goes all the way back to the original master recording and captures the missing timing detail. Advanced digital processing is then used to deliver it in a form that’s small enough to download or stream to your home or pocket." Marah Strauch's 'Sunshine Superman' Dated for Blu-ray[teaser]The acclaimed skydiving documentary falls to Blu-ray in March. [/teaser] In an early announcement to retailers, Magnolia will be releasing 'Sunshine Superman' on Blu-ray on March 1. Sunshine Superman combines Carl Boenish's own 16mm archive footage with detailed re-enactments for an "awe-inspiring" (The Hollywood Reporter) portrait of the man who broke the boundaries of what was deemed humanly possible.
