I have to say that I’m a little disappointed by the low turnout for last week’s ‘Hoosiers’ contest. Is it that you guys weren’t interested in the prize, that you didn’t like the contest I came up with, or something else entirely? The upshot to this, however, is that the few people who did enter each have much better odds of winning.
What I asked you to do was to come up with funny or clever names for fictional sports teams from movies or TV shows that are not actually about sports. I liked all of the following answers.
Honorable Mentions

(If I can’t get an honorable mention for humor or cleverness, maybe I can get one for most obvious reference)
Consider yourself honorably mentioned for obviousness, EM.
The Winners
Anita gave us what I consider the most clever answer:
The Se7en Deadly Sins

Evangelion All-Stars

I’d go to see any of these teams play.
So, there you have it. Congratulations to Anita and Trevor for winning the ‘Hoosiers: 25th Anniversary Edition‘ on Blu-ray.
We’ll see if we can’t rustle up perhaps a more recent title for our next contest.

Don’t feel bad about the turnout Josh … I can only answer for myself, but for me it was the prize that was offered.
I’m originally from Indiana which means I’ve had Hoosiers (as well as A Christmas Story) crammed down my throat for a good chunk of my life. The impact of this is a deep, if irrational, hatred of that film.
Besides we all know the best basketball film, nay the best sports film … DOUBLE NAY the best film period is Teen Wolf.

I should have put the Paper Street Maggots instead of Tyler Durden’s. Boohooo!
I have seen Hoosiers a number of times myself, so it’s not that big a deal. Enjoy the movie, winners!
Anita
Wow! Thanks Josh for picking me as a winner for the “Hoosier” blu-ray. I didn’t even think “The Se7en Deadly Sins” was my best answer, but it was the first one that came to mind when I read the contest rules. I love “Hoosiers” so much. I saw it when it was originally released and have a copy on VHS; I’ve probably seen it 25 times or more. I’m so happy I will now have a blu-ray so I can watch it 25 more times. Am sending you my info via email and thanks again for thinking I am clever. Also congrats to Trevor for his win.

I wish most Oscar acceptance speeches were as good as Anita’s thank-you.
And thank you, Josh!
Although I was a participant, I confess I wasn’t all that excited by the contest either. I knew I couldn’t win the prize on the grounds that I’m a quasi-recent winner of an earlier contest, but that hasn’t stopped me before. (If I had been eligible, that would have stopped me, as I didn’t want this particular prize!) The truth is that I generally don’t care for sports, and so the contest didn’t fire my imagination much. However, I believe this is the first time that I have been honored for 100% of my entries. 😉
