Over Half of Homes Have an Xbox 360, PS3 or Wii - PS3 and 360 Play Time Up Significantly

By comparison, only 39% own an iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad.

It seems like everyone has an iPhone these days, but the reality is that more homes boast a current-gen game system than Apple's incredibly popular phones. Current gen, of course, means a PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 or Wii.

The National Polling Data Group (NPD) says that you'll find one of these consoles in 56% of homes, which means that a majority of US homes have at least one gamer in them. That number doesn't count dedicated gaming PCs, which means the total should go even higher. No wonder those anti-game laws get shut down so quickly.

Over the last year, time spent gaming has also increased. On average, gamers have added 7% to their gaming time. That number is hugely significant for the two HD consoles, considering that Wii play time was down 22% over the last year.

'MLB 2K12' and 'NBA 2K12' $69.99 Combo Pack Coming to Xbox 360

You'll get both games for just $10 more than the cost buying MLB.

The folks at 2K Sports have just announced what has to be one of the best deals going right now. The company will be launching a combo pack consisting of 'MLB 2K12' and 'NBA 2K12' for just $69. Considering that 'MLB 2K12' on its own retails for $59, this is a crazy big discount.

The really odd thing about this, though, is that the combo pack is only coming to the Xbox 360. PS3 owners will, unless more information comes out, be paying full price if they want both. Perhaps it's a way to offload some extra copies of 'NBA 2K12' or simply a way to get more baseball games sold. Whatever the reason, 360 owners are winning out on this one.

You'll be able to pick up 'MLB 2K12' and the combo pack with 'NBA 2K12' when the game launches on March 6th.

'Mass Effect 3' Demo Bumps Silver Members to Go - Facebook App Gives Away Prizes

EA is pushing 'Mass Effect 3' hard.

The folks at EA are all about promotion this month. That's nothing new, but it's still impressive to see the massive marketing engine power up. The latest bits are targeting Xbox 360 owners specifically by giving away prizes and even a Gold upgrade for those that need it.

On February 14th, the 'Mass Effect 3' demo hits the Xbox Live marketplace. If you're not a Xbox Live Gold member, you're in for a treat. Downloading the demo will give upgrade your Silver account to Gold for free until March 6th.

If you jump on Facebook you can earn in-game and out-of-game prizes. The "game" is divided up into missions, the first of which is to invite friends to play. Whether you do that or not, you'll get a Normandy prop for your avatar as soon as enough people sign up. Other prizes will include things like Microsoft Points and a brand new Xbox. Those, obviously, won't be going to everyone.

'The Simpsons Arcade Game' is Coming to the Xbox 360 Tomorrow

Tags: The Simpsons Arcade Game, XBLA, Xbox 360 (all tags)

A Friday release is a bit strange, but you know what they say about gift horses and their mouths.

Friday is the big day for Xbox owners. 'The Simpsons Arcade Game' is finally going to be available. It's an odd day for a release, but just in time to enjoy it all weekend.

'The Simpsons Arcade Game' is easily the beat-em-up that's most asked for by console owners. It's well earned , of course. Not only was the game crazy good, it was only released on PC DOS and the Commodore 64.

So come Friday, Xbox 360 owners can catch up with the folks on PS3 who have had the game for a few days. It's the kind of game where you can invite some friends over and play all weekend. Except Sunday - apparently there's some sort of football contest happening.

Insomniac is Done with the 'Resistance' Franchise

Thu Jan 26, 2012 at 11:30 AM ET
Tags: Resistance, Insomniac, System Exclusives, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 (all tags)

The company is moving on from exclusive titles to multiplatform games.

Insomniac has been making system exclusive games for Sony since 1996, but they're now breaking out of console exclusivity. The company's upcoming 'Overstrike' will be coming for both the PS3 and Xbox 360 and other future titles are planned for multiplatform release.

This new focus does mean that something has to go though, and that thing is the 'Resistance' franchise. In an interview with Southern Methodist University’s Game::Business::Law Summit today, Insomniac CEO Ted Price said simply, "We won’t be making any more Resistances." Doesn't get much more straightforward than that.

Sources Say the Next Xbox Will Pack Six Times More GPU Power

The new chip, provided by AMD, will be similar to the HD 6670 in specs.

If the rumors and leaks from sources across the industry are true then we'll have a brand new Xbox to look forward to at the end of this year. Lending even more credibility to the rumors is the alleged leak of details relating to the system.

The folks at IGN say that they've been able to confirm reports that the new Xbox will use a graphics chip that's pretty close to the Radeon HD 6670, which is compatible with DirectX11 and can handle 1080p HD, 3D and even multiple displays.

Use of this card would give the new Xbox six times the graphical power of the 360, which has to be getting developers excited. Even if graphical quality isn't improved dramatically, this would create freedom to make larger worlds without needing to obscure distant objects and allow for quicker rendering of large set pieces.
