XBLA Shooter 'Hybrid' Beta Signups Open Now
Tue Mar 20, 2012 at 02:30 PM ETTags: Hybrid, Xbox Live Arcade, 5th Cell, Scribblenauts (all tags)
The tactical shooter will be available this summer, but select players will get a head start on it.
'Hybrid' is an upcoming tactical shooter for the Xbox Live Arcade that looks like it could be incredibly cool. You'll find plenty of guns and other equipment to play with as well as a unique cover switching system. Oh, and jetpacks.
The game's developer, 5th Cell, says that the team "strives to give players a completely new gameplay experience never seen before in the genre." If the name 5th Cell is familiar, that's probably because of the company's massive hit 'Scribblenauts.' Needless to say, this is a step in an entirely different direction for them.
You can sign up for the Beta on the 'Hybrid' website.

'Jet Grind Radio' is Coming to XBLA and PSN
Fri Feb 24, 2012 at 11:30 AM ETTags: Jet Grind Radio, Jet Set Radio Future, PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade, Dreamcast, Sega (all tags)
One of the last big Dreamcast titles is finally on its way to the major consoles.
'Jet Grind Radio' is one of the most beloved games of the Dreamcast era, and also a fairly niche title. If you want to be all technical about it - hey, we do it for the 'Final Fantasy' titles - the original name of the game is 'Jet Set Radio,' not to be confused with the less beloved 'Jet Set Radio Future.'
There hasn't been any official word on a release date or pricing - just a teaser video that's sure to get fans of the game excited to go. There's also no indication as to what we're getting with the game, and whether the original soundtrack will be included.

Study Shows XBLA Games are Getting More Expensive while Review Scores are Dropping
Mon Feb 06, 2012 at 12:30 PM ETTags: Summer of Arcade, Braid, Bastion, Castle Crashers, XBLA, Xbox Live Arcade (all tags)
A study by XBLA Fans has revealed a disappointing trend in Xbox Live Arcade Games.
The Xbox Live Arcade is a great source of inexpensive but awesome games. You can get ahold of titles like 'Bastion,' 'Castle Crashers,' and 'Braid' along with classics like the newly released 'Simpsons Arcade Game' without having to shell out the $60 a new retail game would cost.
According to the website XBLA Fans, however, the Live Arcade has been slowly getting worse. Prices are going up, while game quality has been decreasing. Take the yearly Summer of Arcade for example. In 2008 we got 'Braid,' 'Castle Crashers,' and 'Bionic Commando: Rearmed,' along with a few other titles. The average Metacritic score came out to 84.8 and the average price was 960.
Compare that to 2011, which had the lowest average Metacritic score at 78.8. It also had the second highest price average, at 1120.
Obviously, there's a lot more to consider than that number, but you can read the rest in a four part series over at XBLA Fans.

The Simpsons Arcade Game May Finally Come to Consoles
Thu Nov 10, 2011 at 11:30 AM ETTags: The Simpsons, The Simpsons Arcade Game, PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade (all tags)
We've been waiting a long time for this, but the day is finally upon us.
The fans know all too well that there hasn't been a great 'Simpsons' game on consoles. Bad, sure. Mediocre, yes. Good, maybe. But great? Not even close. In fact, there's only been one really good 'Simpsons' game and unless you have the PC version you've had to go to the arcade and play a janked up old machine to enjoy it.
According to a recent classification with the Australian Government Classification Board - essentially their version of the ESRB - the 'Simpsons' arcade game is finally on the way to several different platforms. The platforms aren't listed but we're going to go ahead and guess that it's hitting XBLA and PSN at the very least.
