The $99 Xbox 360 and Kinect Combo is Real

Microsoft will be using a cell phone style service that requires a 2 year commitment to Xbox Live.

The Xbox 360 isn't exactly an expensive system at this point, but it's still out of some people's price range. Casual gamers and parents may even shell out for a Wii simply because the cost is so low. Microsoft has a new way to combat that.

The company is set to offer an Xbox 360 and Kinect combo for just $99. The catch – and of course there's a catch – is that you'll have to sign up for two years of Xbox Live Gold at $15 a month – that's $360 over the course of two years.

It's not a fantastic deal if you're not planning on using Xbox Live, but if you are, that's a savings of $200, assuming you're paying $15 a month for your Xbox Live.

All Videogame Gold Box Event on Amazon Starts at Midnight

Mon Mar 26, 2012 at 10:30 AM ET
Tags: Amazon, Gold Box, Videogame Sales (all tags)

The discounted games have not yet been revealed, but we're expecting at least a few good deals in there.

Amazon Gold Box events are a bit unpredictable when it comes to game quality – sometimes you're getting a great deal on a sweet title and sometimes it's a minor discount on shovelware. Either way, the all videogame Gold Box event that launches at midnight Pacific time tonight is well worth keeping an eye on, especially when the games being offered up get revealed.

'Soulcalibur V,' 'Saints Row: The Third' and More $39 at Amazon and Best Buy

Tags: SoulCalibur V, Saints Row: The Third, WWE 12, NBA 2K12, Videogame Sales (all tags)

Best Buy has some newer games at a steep discount this week and Amazon is matching the price.

'Soulcalibur V' is just under a month old, but already it's being sold at a significant discount - at least by Amazon and Best Buy where the game is currently priced at $39.

The recently released fighting game isn't the only title on sale either. You'll find 'Saints Row: The Third,' 'WWE 12' and 'NBA 2K12' at the same price.

The discount on 'Soulcalibur' is particularly interesting based on the relative newness of the game. It's a great sale for gamers of course, but it also seems like a strategy to help combat used game sales. After all, why buy a used copy when you can get a new one for $15 less?

70% of GameStop DLC Sales are Paid in Cash, Gift Cards or Credit

Tue Feb 14, 2012 at 01:30 PM ET
Tags: DLC, Videogame Sales, Industry News, GameStop (all tags)

Gamers without access to credit cards make up the majority of those who buy DLC and PC games at retail.

The digital distribution model has a lot going for it, but there's one big problem - gamers without credit cards. There's a huge demographic of young game buyers and most don't have access to credit cards, which means they can't order DLC or downloadable titles through normal means. That's where retail comes in.

GameStop has released some details on the shopping habits of its buyers, including the fact that 70% of DLC and online credits purchased through GameStop is through non-credit card transaction. That means in-store credit, gift cards and cash.

The company says that's the same thing driving PC game sales. Unlike on consoles, there is a massive digital distribution system set up. Still, those without credit cards need retail to get their hands on the latest.

The Steam Holiday Sale is Live - PC Gamers Rejoice

Tue Dec 20, 2011 at 09:30 AM ET
Tags: PC, Steam, Videogame Sales (all tags)

There are some incredible deals, including one that nets you 'Arkham City,' 'Bastion' and everything else Warner Bros has available for $75.

Anyone who plays PC games on a regular basis should be familiar with Steam's annual holiday sale. It's the time of year when you can get games for absolutely ridiculous prices. A 75% discount is a fairly standard discount for featured games and you can pick up an entire publisher's game library for as little as $70.

One discount in particular stands out strong in the pack and it's not even one of the daily deals. Every Warner Bros game on Steam can be had for $75. As John Walker of Rock, Paper, Shotgun points out, that's a deal custom made for anyone that hasn't yet picked up 'Arkham City.'

'Arkham City' itself would cost $50 normally with the Robin and Nightwing bundles coming in at $7 each. That's a potential $64 you're spending already. For $11 more you get all the 'F.E.A.R.' games, 'LEGO Batman,' 'LEGO Harry Potter,' and 'Bastion' - one absolutely amazing game that's been fairly overlooked.
