NECA's Portal Gun Replica Available May 18th
Tue Mar 20, 2012 at 01:30 PM ETTags: Portal, Portal 2, Think Geek, Cool Stuff (all tags)
Only 5,000 copies of this 1:1 replica will be made available.
There are plenty of iconic weapons in videogames, but the Portal Gun is one that's truly captured the imagination of players who've used it. On May 18th, those of us who want one of their very own can pick up a Portal Gun from Think Geek for $139.
The gun is a 1:1 replica of the one from the game and features LED lighting that you can change to orange or blue depending on your portal flinging needs. Each color has its own unique sound, and the claws on the gun are extendable and posable.
The officially licensed Portal Gun isn't up for preorder yet, but you can sign up for an email list to be informed of availability. If you're thinking about picking one of these limited edition guns, that email signup seems like a pretty good idea.

Game Developers Choice Awards Nominees Announced
Fri Jan 06, 2012 at 11:30 AM ETTags: Game Developers Conference, Game Developers Choice Awards, Videogame Awards, Bastion, Dark Souls, Portal 2, Skyrim (all tags)
A few obvious titles are nominated, like 'Skyrim' and 'Portal 2,' but there are a few smaller games in the running, like 'Bastion' and 'Dark Souls.''
There are only a few videogame award shows worth watching, and the Game Developer's Choice Awards is one of them. Awards are voted on by the industry and given out at the Game Developers Conference, coming in early March. There aren't bikini-clad women or presenters that don't make sense or awards for "Best Game Fueled By Dew." It's not the Spike VGAs is the point.
This year's award nominations include most of the games you'd expect to see. 'Arkham City,' 'Skyrim,' 'Portal 2,' and 'L.A. Noire' appear in more than a few categories. Surprise hit 'Bastion' is all over the list as well, picking up nominations for Innovation, Audio, Best Downloadable Game and Best Debut.
There's another dark horse on the list and that's 'Dark Souls,' the follow up to 'Demon's Souls' from From Software. It's not only nominated for Best Game Design, but Game of the Year as well. That could certainly be a big upset considering the mainstream titles its up against.

ThinkGeek Will Sell a Talking Cave Johnson 'Portal 2' Portrait
Wed Nov 09, 2011 at 10:30 AM ETTags: Portal 2 (all tags)
The official Valve portrait comes out on December 17th, just in time for the gamer on your Christmas list.
There's a lot of videogame merchandise out there, including toys, books, comics and costumes. Most of it isn't worth making too big of a fuss about, but it's hard not to get a little bit excited about the latest to come out of ThinkGeek.
That's because it's a framed portrait of Cave Johnson from 'Portal 2.' He's the founder of Aperture Science and a character that affects the gameplay even having been dead for years. He's also the most memorable part of the game thanks to an incredible performance by J.K. Simmons.
The portrait from ThinkGeek is officially licensed and includes 13 different sayings including, of course, the entire "when life gives you lemons" rant. It'll be available around the 17th of December at a price of $39.99.
