PlayStation Network Down for Maintenance Today

Mon Apr 16, 2012 at 10:30 AM ET
Tags: PlayStation Network, PlayStation 3 (all tags)

You'll be unable to access the store or play online until around 7:00 PDT, 10:00 EDT.

The folks at Sony have shut down the PlayStation network for some routine maintenance today, which will prevent gamers from accessing Home, Account Management, the PlayStation Store and from playing games online.

Maintenance will end at 7:00pm PDT / 10:00pm EDT, so those living on the east coast will need to find something else to do tonight. Time to dust off one of those "man, I always meant to finish this" games.

PlayStation says to keep an eye on their Twitter feed for the most up to date info on the downtime.

'Jet Grind Radio' is Coming to XBLA and PSN

Fri Feb 24, 2012 at 11:30 AM ET
Tags: Jet Grind Radio, Jet Set Radio Future, PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade, Dreamcast, Sega (all tags)

One of the last big Dreamcast titles is finally on its way to the major consoles.

'Jet Grind Radio' is one of the most beloved games of the Dreamcast era, and also a fairly niche title. If you want to be all technical about it - hey, we do it for the 'Final Fantasy' titles - the original name of the game is 'Jet Set Radio,' not to be confused with the less beloved 'Jet Set Radio Future.'

There hasn't been any official word on a release date or pricing - just a teaser video that's sure to get fans of the game excited to go. There's also no indication as to what we're getting with the game, and whether the original soundtrack will be included.

'Journey' is Coming to PSN March 13th

Thu Feb 16, 2012 at 01:30 PM ET
Tags: Journey, Flower, thatgamecompany, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Network (all tags)

The latest game from the folks behind 'Flower' is finally on the way.

Back in 2009 a developer known as thatgamecompany created a game called 'Flower' that blew fans and critics away. If you haven't played it, 'Flower' is a gorgeous game that's at the same time relaxing and engaging, and it approaches play in a way that few if any other games do.

thatgamecompany has been hard at work on a new title called 'Journey,' and has finally set a March 13th launch date. Creative director Jenova Chen describes the new title as "an interactive parable, an anonymous online adventure to experience a person’s life passage and their intersections with other’s."

You'll be able to explore the game yourself on March 13th, when the game launches on PSN at a price of $14.99.

"PlayStation Network" Becomes "Sony Entertainment Network" on Wednesday

Mon Feb 06, 2012 at 10:30 AM ET
Tags: PSP, PlayStation Network, Sony Entertainment Network, PlayStation 3 (all tags)

The name change is happening across the spectrum, with the exception of the PSP.

Tuesday the 7th is the last time you'll be logging onto PSN unless you own a PlayStation Portable. On Sony's other devices, the PlayStation Network name is being replaced with Sony Entertainment Network.

The name change is purely cosmetic and comes because Sony wants to keep its brand identity together across all devices - a feat that's difficult to pull off. They want Bravia users, PS3 users and Sony Blu-ray player users to have access to the same one-stop-shop service.

"Changing the name 'PlayStation Network account' to 'Sony Entertainment Network account' helps clarify the unity between PSN and other Sony Entertainment Network services," says a Sony spokesperson.
