Sony Announces 'Rent Live' for Blu-ray

Broadway is coming to high-def, with Sony Pictures setting an early-February Blu-ray date for the rock opera 'Rent.'

The acclaimed portrait of starving artists in New York who face poverty, illness and the AIDS epidemic, 'Rent' is based on Jonathan Larson's Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning musical, and one of the longest running shows on Broadway.

Sony will debut 'Rent: Filmed Live on Broadway' on Blu-ray February 3, day-and-date with the standard DVD.

Tech specs will see the 152-minute feature presented on a BD-50 dual-layer disc in 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video (1.78:1) with English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround audio.

Extras include a suite of six featurettes ("The Wall," "The Final Curtain," "Home," "The Final Lottery," "Casting," "Rent: The Final Days on Broadway"), and a pair of PSAs.

Suggested list price for the Blu-ray has been set at $28.95.

Eagle Rock Bringing Trio of Music Titles to Blu

Indie Eagle Rock has announced a trio of new music titles, bringing live concert favorites from Tori Amos, Ray Charles and a host of top artists to Blu-ray for the first time.

Due for simultaneous release on December 9, Eagle Rock will premiere 'Tori Amos, Live At Montreux 1991/1992,' 'Ray Charles, Live At Montreux 1997' and the all-star jam 'The Strat Pack Live In Concert' (featuring performances by Queen, Roxy Music, the Eagles, Pink Floyd and the Rolling Stones') on Blu-ray. (Eagle Rock previously released all three titles on standard DVD.)

No tech or supplement specs have been confirmed as of yet, but based on Eagle Rock's previous Blu-ray releases, expect at least some form of high-res audio and bonus features comparable to the previous DVD versions.

Suggested list price has been set at $24.95 apiece.

'Stomp' Coming to Blu-ray this January

The acclaimed music and dance troupe Stomp is coming to Blu-ray this January with the debut of their first-ever next-gen live release.

Having entertained over 15 million people across 42 countries, the ensemble is considered one of the most successful stage shows of all time. 'Stomp Live' presents a brand-new stage performance, and will hit Blu-ray on January 27 (day-and-date with the standard DVD).

The first high-def release from indie Well Go USA, there are no announced tech specs or supplement details as of yet, but we'll keep you posted.

Suggested retail price for the Blu-ray has been set at $34.98.

Filmed at a stop on the band's sold-out 2007 tour, 'Three Days Grace: Live at the Palace' was captured entirely in HD and features over a dozen of the band's hits.

Sony Music has set a mid-November date for the Foo Fighter's Blu-ray debut 'Live at Wembley.'

Filmed at the legendary London venue, 'Foo Fighters: Live at Wembley Stadium' features the rockers performing all of their biggest hits in front of a sold-out crowd of nearly 70,000.

Sony Music Brings Ricky Martin 'Black & White Tour' to Blu

In an urgent alert to retailers, Sony Music has announced it will bring Ricky Martin's debut high-def release 'Black & White Tour' to Blu-ray in late November.

Filmed during a stop on the Latin heartthrob's recent world tour, 'Ricky Martin Live: Black & White Tour' was captured entirely with HD cameras and features a setlist that includes such Martin hits as "Living a Vida Loca" and "She Bangs."

Sony will release the Blu-ray on November 25, day-and-date with the standard DVD.

Summit to Release Trio of Music Blu-rays this November

Announcing a trio of next-gen music titles, Summit Entertainment will bring live concert releases from Barenaked Ladies, O.A.R., and Heart to Blu-ray this November.

Kicking off the indie distributor's November music slate will be 'O.A.R.: Live at Madison Square Garden' on November 4, followed three weeks later on November 25 by 'Barenaked Ladies: Talk to the Hand - Live in Michigan' and 'Heart: Dreamboat Annie Live.'

Preliminary text specs see 1080 video (1.78:1) on all three releases, though there is no confirmation yet on audio.

Extras will be comparable to the standard DVD extras, including featurettes, band interviews and more.

Suggested retail price has been set at $34.99 each.

Indie rockers Tenacious D have announced to retailers their debut high-def release, setting a mid-November Blu-ray bow for the latest in their 'Complete Masterworks' series.

Due on Blu-ray November 11 (day-and-date with the DVD) from Sony Music, 'Tenacious D: The Complete Masterworks 2' is the latest volume in the band's archival series of music videos, short films, and other rare audio materials.

Sony has yet to set any tech or supplement specs for the set, but we'll keep you posted.

Marking the high-def debut both for the indie distributor and the veteran pop-rock duo, 'Hall & Oates: Live at the Troubador' was shot entirely in high-definition and features over two dozen of the band's biggest hits.

Paul McCartney to Release First Blu-ray with 'Space Within Us'

Rock legend Paul McCartney is releasing his first Blu-ray, with A&E announcing a November bow for the concert film 'The Space Within Us.'

In 2005, McCartney crossed America with his record-breaking, sold-out US tour. Captured with twenty-five hi-def cameras, 'Paul McCartney: The Space Within Us' presents the complete show that contains over two dozen musical masterpieces, including such Beatles classics as 'Eleanor Rigby,' 'Yesterday,' 'Penny Lane' and 'Hey Jude.'

A&E Home Video will debut the Blu-ray on November 18.

There are no tech specs or supplement details announced as of yet, but watch this space.
