LG Announces the 9.1 Channel Cinema 3D Home Theater System
Mon Jan 09, 2012 at 02:00 PM ETTags: LG, Home Theater Systems, Home Theater In A Box (all tags)
The new home theater in-a-box gives you 3D Sound Zooming and a nice wide sweet spot.
We've got to give it to LG, their new home theater system seems like a slick setup. It sets itself apart from the rest by offering 9.1 channels of audio instead of the usual 5.1 or 7.1. Another significant difference between the BH9420PW and most HTiB solutions is that LG doesn't just give you small speakers - you'll get four floorstanding speakers in addition to the satellites.
LG's BH9420PW home theater system offers a feature called 3D Sound Zooming that syncs sound output with whatever's happening in the 3D movie you're watching. LG specifies that this will work with LG Cinema 3D TVs, but it's unclear whether or not this feature is compatible with other sets.
You'll be able to get your hands on the BH9420PW this March, but a price has not yet been announced.

Samsung's New Home Theater Systems Offer 2D to 3D Conversion and Tube Amplifiers
Thu Jan 05, 2012 at 02:00 PM ETTags: Samsung, Home Theater Systems, Blu-ray Players, Home Theater In A Box (all tags)
You'll also find built-in Wi-Fi and access to Samsung Apps.
Samsung has been making some changes to its home theater systems in the last few years and this year's models are certainly taking things up-market a bit.
The company's new home theater systems - the 7.1 channel E6730W and 5.1 channel E5500W - include more than just the traditional receiver and speaker combination. For starters, they pack a Blu-ray player that does 2D to 3D conversion so you can enjoy your existing Blu-rays with a bit of extra pop.
More interesting though is the addition of tube amplifiers to the higher end E6730W. The system combines "The crystal clear sound quality from a digital amplifier with the warmer tone qualities of vacuum tubes." The tubes are visible from the front and top of the system too, giving you a piece of hardware that's bound to impress some folks.

LG Announces a 9.1 Channel Home Theater System
Wed Aug 31, 2011 at 12:00 PM ETTags: LG, Home Theater Systems, Home Theater In A Box (all tags)
LG says you'll get 360 degree sound like you would at a live concert or movie theater.
The folks at LG have a new home theater in a box on the way and it's actually looking pretty slick. It's a 9.1 channel setup so you're not stuck with a 5.1 like in most cases. It has a few other nice features, like an included 3D Blu-ray player, but the thing LG really wants to talk about is the sound.
The HX906TX uses a 3D effect DSP algorithm and Sound Field Technology to create what the company calls "an immersive 360-degree sound experience. It extends the sweet spot and even fills in empty space where there's no sound information.
LG's new system uses four upright speakers on top of the floorstanding speakers. They're designed to further help the 360-degree sound experience. "The HX906TX sets new standards in immersive entertainment, with a sound so rich and textured," says CEO Havis Kwon, "it's hard to believe it's not real."
They're not talking price yet, but don't expect the HX906TX to come cheap.

Onkyo Unveils a Pair of Home Theater Systems
Fri Feb 11, 2011 at 12:00 PM ETTags: Onkyo, Home Theater In A Box (all tags)
Both offer higher end features at an entry level price.
Onkyo is all about value this year, and it's especially evident in their new HTiB systems, the HT-S5400 and HT-S3400.
Both systems bring PLL jitter-cleaning circuitry to the table as well as TI Burr-Brown DACs and an Advanced Music Optimizer that brings your compressed audio files to life. They both feature Audyssey Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume as well.
The HT-S5400 kicks things up a bit by offering 7.1 channel audio instead of the 5.1 of the 3400. It also includes Dolby ProLogic IIz for a vertical soundstage and a USB port that allows you to hook up your iPod or iPhone directly.
You'll be able to pick the HTiBs up when they go on sale in April. The 3400 comes in at $379 while the 5400 retails at $599. Both systems come with speakers and subs for a complete audio solution.

LG Announces Its First Home Theater System With Real 3D Sound
Mon Jan 03, 2011 at 02:00 PM ETTags: LG, Home Theater In A Box (all tags)
Vertical channels, dual subwoofers, and more.
Typically when you're signing up for a home theater system of HTiB, you're admitting that you're willing to settle for lower quality and a complete absence of style. LG's latest offering shows that you might not have to give up either.
The new HX996TS comes with four Tallboy speakers that use top speakers to create vertical sound and fill the air space above your head. This design was put in place to help put you right into the middle of the movie, giving a complete feeling of immersion.
LG's HX996TS offers something you don't see often in an HTiB - dual subwoofers. Pop one on each side of the set for better sound quality and richer bass.
LG hasn't announced a price for the HX996TS yet, but we expect to hear both a price and release date at CES.

LG Intros Home Theater Systems and a Blu-ray Sound Bar
Tue Sep 14, 2010 at 02:00 PM ETTags: LG, Home Theater In A Box, Blu-ray Player, Soundbars (all tags)
There's a huge range, from the standard to the dazzling.
LG's got plenty to talk about these days, including three new home theater and speaker systems. There's a pretty big range in the products, starting at the low end with a 3D Blu-ray sound bar.
The LG HLX55W is an interesting case. It's a fairly traditional sound bar, with the exception of the built-in Blu-ray player. The player is mounted in the direct center of the bar and discs are inserted vertically. It's an interesting concept, but it just seems like trouble, especially once those speakers get turned up to 10.
LG's HX995TZ is about as traditional as it gets. It's a home theater system that includes four floorstanding speakers, a Blu-ray player and a wireless subwoofer. Strangely, the Blu-ray player is designed to sit or mount vertically, an idea that LG seems to be really into.
It doesn't come with a vertically mounted Blu-ray player, but the HX900 is the most interesting new system from LG, at least in terms of design. The package consists of four floorstanding speakers and one center channel , all designed to create a 3D soundstage. The vertical element is created by sending sound out through the tops of the slick looking floorstanding speakers – certainly one of the more interesting speaker sets we've seen recently.

On the electronics side, you get a surround sound processor, two multichannel amps, two stereo amps, an equalizer and an interconnect kit to wire it all together.

It's not cheap, coming in at $88,100.

Denon Intros a New 3D HTiB
Wed Aug 04, 2010 at 02:00 PM ETTags: Denon, Home Theater In A Box (all tags)
The 5.1 channel DHT-1311XP is hitting the UK this September.
Denon's new home theater system, known as the DHT-1311XP, is built with 3D in mind. It sports four HDMI 1.4 inputs with full support for 3D pass-through tech, Deep Color and x.v.Color.
The receiver at the heart of the system – the AVR-1311 – powers five channels with 110 watts to each. It supports the latest in HD audio formats, but handles lower bitrate MP3s too. It's even got a built in Compressed Audio Restorer that works to make those MP3s sound as good as possible.
The package also comes with a pair of SC-F391 front speakers which sport a pair of three inch mid drivers, an SC-C391 center channel and a pair of SC-R391 surrounds. Denon also includes a 100 watt sub to kick out the bass.
Neither a US release date or pricing have been announced as of yet, but it's coming to the UK in September at around $700.

Onkyo Debuts the World's First THX Certified 3D Ready HTiB
Mon Jul 26, 2010 at 12:00 PM ETTags: Onkyo, Home Theater In A Box, 3D, High-Def Retailing, Industry Trends (all tags)
It may be a home theater in a box, but the HT-S9300THX is downright impressive.
Onkyo seems determined to prove people wrong when they say that a home theater in-a-box can't compete with separates. Their latest HTiB, the HT-S9300THX, is THX certified, handles 3D, and it's nice and upgradeable.
It all starts with the receiver, which sports four HDMI 1.4 inputs as well as plenty of component and composite inputs. Anything going into the receiver at less than 1080p will be upscaled courtesy of the Faroudja DCDi Cinema processor.
The receiver handles the latest in lossless Blu-ray audio and includes Dolby ProLogic IIz for height channel processing. It's also got Audyssey features included for the best possible setup and optical and coaxial audio ins and outs.
Along with the incredibly capable receiver, you'll get one center channel speaker, two speakers for the left and right channels, four satellite speakers and a 12 inch subwoofer. All that will be available at the end of the month for $1,099.

Onkyo Intros Two New Home Theater Systems
Fri Jul 09, 2010 at 02:00 PM ETTags: Onkyo, Home Theater In A Box, High-Def Retailing (all tags)
The new HTiBs from Onkyo include 3D capable AV Receivers with Faroudja processors.
Home theater enthusiasts may scoff at the idea of purchasing a home-theater-in-a-box for your audio, but the latest offerings from Onkyo have a lot going in their favor.
For starters, both the new HD-S6300 and HT-S7300 feature 3D capable receivers with four HDMI 1.4 inputs. Video can be upscaled all the way up to 1080p thanks to Faroudja DCDi Cinema processors, which also remove the 'jaggies' from your standard definition video of choice.
Both systems come with a range of technologies from Audyssey built right in. They've got Audyssey Dynamic EQ, Dynamic Volume Processing and the 2EQ room acoustics correction tech. Both the 6300 and 7300 also include Dolby ProLogic IIz for height channel processing.
The main difference between the two is in the speakers. The 6300 comes with six bookshelf speakers, one center channel and a 290 watt subwoofer. The 7300, on the other hand, switches a pair of those bookshelf speakers for floorstanding left and right speakers that ultilize dual woofers.
You can pick up Onkyo's new line of HTiBs now. The HT-6300 runs $749 while the 7300 comes in at $899.
