Netflix to Stream 'Avengers' and 'Hunger Games' in Early 2013
Wed May 16, 2012 at 12:00 PM ETTags: The Avengers, Hunger Games, Netflix, Epix (all tags)
The service will get the movies just 90 days after Epix.
One of the common complaints heard about Netflix streaming is that there just aren't enough new movies. Summer blockbusters and other new releases tend not to be present on Netflix until they're no longer worth crowing about.
The company's newest acquisitions are a nice step up. Netflix will not only have 'The Hunger Games' streaming in early 2013, but the smash hit 'The Avengers.' Availability is thanks to a streaming deal with pay-channel Epix, which will start airing both movies 90 days earlier than the Netflix release.

Netflix and EPIX Make a Deal – New Movies Streaming in September
Wed Aug 11, 2010 at 12:00 PM ETTags: Netflix, Epix (all tags)
The new agreement will give streaming subscribers access to films like 'Iron Man 2' among others.
Netflix knows where its bread is buttered. Sure, you can get DVDs and Blu-rays in the mail from Netflix, but the streaming service is currently the most convenient and cheapest way to rent movies. It's quickly become the thing the company is best known for.
That's probably why Netflix felt comfortable making a deal that would pay EPIX $1 billion over the course of the next five years in exchange for streaming rights. That's $200 million a year – not exactly chump change.
Under the terms of the deal, Netflix will get the rights to stream movies from Paramount, Lionsgate and MGM just 90 days after they launch on premium TV channels like HBO and, well, EPIX.
You'll see new movies start to show up as early as September 1st.

Epix Ready for Cell Phone Integration
Thu Feb 18, 2010 at 01:00 PM ETTags: Epix, Industry Trends (all tags)
There hasn’t been a lot of talk about Epix recently, but making their service available across the mobile platform may strengthen their position significantly.
Netflix is everywhere. Blu-ray players, game systems, televisions, computers and streaming devices are all the domain of the incredibly successful service. There’s one market they haven’t tapped yet, which seems to be primarily linked to the use of Silverlight. There’s demand for movies on the go, but Netflix just can’t do it yet. Epix, on the other hand, is ready, willing, and able.
Thanks to a partnership with Adobe and the use of Adobe Flash Player 10.1, Epix streaming videos are able to be viewed on cellular telephones. “We are committed to providing viewers with the best entertainment experience anytime, anywhere,” says VP Thomas Carpenter.
Though Epix has announced that their streaming service is capable of running on cell phones, there’s been no announcement of partnerships with carriers. There’s no mention of an additional fee, which implies that this will be free to existing Epix subscribers.
