Sony Highlights New Home Cinema Projectors, Including 4K Models[teaser]Three upcoming projector models have been detailed. [/teaser] During the company's IFA 2015 press conference, Sony revealed several additions to its projector lineup. The new models include the VPL-VW520ES, VPL-VW320ES, and VPL-HW65ES. The VPL-VW520ES and VPL-VW320ES are both native 4K projector models with SXRD panels, Sony’s proprietary TRILUMINOs engine, Motionflow picture technology, and built-in RF 3D transmitters. Likewise, both projectors include HDMI connectivity with HDCP 2.2 compliancy and long-lasting lamps for up to 6,000 hours of performance. In addition, the VPL-VW520ES offers HDR (high dynamic range) support and features a 300,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. Meanwhile, for customers not yet ready for Ultra HD, Sony is also releasing the VPL-HW65ES Full HD projector with a 120,000:1 contrast ratio. "These new 4K projectors from Sony demonstrate our commitment to the native 4K resolution and HDR imagery, which guarantees the most immersive cinematic experience. Our projectors further support this through SXRD technology to achieve high-resolution images without the need to compromise between deep contrast and motion capabilities. We want our customers to enjoy true 4K, whether it is in a dedicated dark room or a living room," said Thomas Issa, Product Manager at Sony Professional Europe. LG Launches High Dynamic Range Streaming on OLED 4K Ultra HD TVs via Amazon Instant Video[teaser]Amazon is the first service to offer HDR streaming content on LG OLED models. [/teaser] LG has announced the launch of high dynamic range streaming on its line of supported OLED Ultra HD TVs. The current crop of high dynamic range content is being provided through Amazon Instant Video. "LG is committed to delivering the best viewing experience, and it doesn’t get any better than HDR content on an OLED 4K display," said Tim Alessi, head of new product development, LG Electronics USA. "Amazon has played an invaluable role in helping LG bring consumers the best way to enjoy streaming content and an incredible HDR experience." High Dynamic Range displays and content provide enhanced levels of brightness and contrast, resulting in more realistic images with greater highlights and more detailed shadows. HDR support will be integrated into the upcoming LG 65EF9500 and 55EF9500 flat-screen OLED Ultra HD TVs. Likewise, HDR support has also recently been added to the 65EG9600 and 55EG9600 curved-screen OLED HD TVs through a firmware upgrade. Currently, Amazon is offering the first season of it original series 'Mozart in the Jungle' and 'Transparent,' along with the pilot episode of 'Red Oaks' in the HDR format. Sony Expands High Dynamic Range Support to More 2015 4K Ultra HD TV Models[teaser]The company is releasing an HDR software update for select TVs. [/teaser] Sony has announced plans to bring high dynamic range support to more of its Ultra HD TVs. HDR compatibility will be added to several 2015 4K displays via an upcoming network update. "Sony is pleased to be expanding HDR compatibility for our 4K Ultra HD televisions. Sony has always been a leader in HDR, from our HDR-enabled professional cameras, to Sony Pictures produced and edited HDR content, to our expanded line of HDR compatible TVs, only Sony can bring you the full HDR viewing experience from the lens to the living room." said Motoi Kawamura, General Manager for TV Product Planning and Marketing in Europe. High dynamic range displays and content offer greater brightness and contrast levels, allowing for superior details in highlights and shadows. HDR support is already integrated into the XBR-75X940C and XBR-65X930C, and support will be added to the XBR-75X910C, XBR-65X900C, XBR-55X900C, XBR-75X850C, XBR-65X850C, and XBR-55X850C through a software update. Samsung Announces Ultra HD Blu-ray Player with Fox Ultra HD Blu-rays, Release set for Early 2016[teaser]The company's first Ultra HD Blu-ray player has been revealed. [/teaser] During its IFA 2015 press conference, Samsung revealed its upcoming Ultra HD Blu-ray player, the UBD-K8500. The device features a curved design and will support disc playback and Ultra HD streaming services. The Ultra HD Blu-ray spec supports video at up to 3840x2160 resolution, expanded color gamuts, high dynamic range, high frame rate content, and object-based audio tech like Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. To coincide with Samsung's new player, Fox has also announced plans to release its upcoming titles on Ultra HD Blu-ray with high dynamic range support, including recent films like 'Kingsman: The Secret Service,' 'Exodus: Gods and Kings,' 'Fantastic Four,' 'X-Men: Days of Future Past,' 'Life of Pi,' 'The Maze Runner' and 'Wild.'
