'The Gallows' Will Swing on Blu-ray this October[teaser]The horror flick is headed for high-definition in October. Twenty years after an accident caused the death of the lead actor during a high school play, students at the same small town school resurrect the failed stage production in a misguided attempt to honor the anniversary of the tragedy - but ultimately find out that some things are better left alone. Fouad Mikati's 'Return to Sender' Headed for Blu-ray[teaser]The revenge thriller arrives on Blu-ray only at Best Buy at the end of the month. Fox Announces First Ultra HD Blu-ray Titles, Release Date Set for Early 2016[teaser]20th Century Fox has revealed its first batch of Ultra HD Blu-rays, including 'Kingsman: The Secret Service,' and 'X-Men: Days of Future Past.' [/teaser] Earlier this week during Samsung's IFA 2015 press conference in Berlin, 20th Century Fox became the first major studio to unveil its initial wave of Ultra HD Blu-rays. The first crop of films will be released in conjunction with Samsung's first Ultra HD Blu-ray player, the UBD-K8500. As part of the announcement, Fox has revealed plans to release its upcoming movies on Ultra HD Blu-ray at the same time as standard Blu-ray and Digital HD releases when the format debuts early next year. Likewise, the studio's Ultra HD Blu-ray titles will all feature HDR (high dynamic range) video, offering enhanced brightness and contrast levels on supported displays. The first wave of Fox Ultra HD Blu-ray discs is scheduled to include: 'Kingsman: The Secret Service,' 'Exodus: Gods and Kings,' 'Fantastic Four,' 'X-Men: Days of Future Past,' 'Life of Pi,' 'The Maze Runner' and 'Wild.' The Ultra HD Blu-ray spec supports video at up to 3840x2160 resolution, expanded color gamuts, high dynamic range, high frame rate content, and object-based audio tech like Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. Likewise, the format includes an optional digital bridge feature that "enhances the value of content ownership by embracing the notion that a content purchase can enable the consumer to view their content across the range of in-home and mobile devices." Finally, the spec also requires that Ultra HD Blu-ray players offer backwards compatibility with current Blu-rays. Ultra HD Blu-ray discs will hold up to 66GB on dual layer discs and 100GB on triple layer discs. Full specs, exact release dates, and suggested list prices for Fox's first Ultra HD Blu-ray discs have not been detailed yet, but the discs are set to debut in early 2016 along with Samsung's UBD-K8500 Ultra HD Blu-ray player. Pioneer Unveils Elite AV Receivers with Dolby Atmos & DTS:X, Prices Start at $1,600[teaser]Three more AV receivers with next-gen audio support have been announced. [/teaser] Pioneer has detailed the newest additions to its Elite AV receiver lineup. The SC-99 ($2500), SC-97 ($2,000), and SC-95 ($1,600) all offer support for Doby Atmos and DTS:X. All three models are 9.2-channel receivers with Class D3 amplifiers, MCACC Pro automatic acoustic correction technology, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, AirPlay, and HDCP 2.2 compliancy. Sony Reveals MP-CL1 HD Mobile Pico Projector, Price Set at $350[teaser]The company has detailed its first pico projector. [/teaser] Sony has announced the latest addition to its projector lineup. The MP-CL1 is a compact, mobile HD projector. Dolby Announces New Partnerships for Dolby Vision Ultra HD Video Chipsets[teaser]Several companies will offer Dolby Vision SoCs for various devices. [/teaser] Dolby has announced partnerships with Realtek, HiSilicon and MediaTek to provide Dolby Vision System-on-Chips (SoCs) for multiple playback devices. Through these new SoCs, the Dolby Vision technology can be incorporated into Ultra HD set-top-boxes, Smart TVs, Over-the-Top (OTT) online streaming, Ultra HD Blu-ray players and Digital Media Adapters (DMAs). Dolby Vision is a video technology that uses high dynamic range and wide color gamuts to create and display content with superior brightness, contrast, and pop. Dolby Vision VS10 also has the benefit of being a universal HDR playback solution, allowing the tech to support Dolby Vision content and other HDR formats based on the SMPTE ST 2084 standard. VIZIO will be the first company to release Dolby Vision Ultra HD TVs with its upcoming Reference Series displays. Likewise, Chinese manufacturers TCL and Skyworth have also announced plans to release Dolby Vision products.
