The VUDU mobile app allows users to rent or purchase over 100,000 movies and TV shows with a simple tap and swipe. Customers can then stream their selected content directly on their mobile devices. Likewise, users can also link their UltraViolet and Disney Movies Anywhere accounts to the app as well. 'Takashi Miike's Black Society Trilogy' Blu-ray Up for Pre-Order[teaser]The Japanese filmmaker's trio of crime thrillers is headed for Blu-ray in January. [/teaser] As previously reported, Arrow Video is working on 'Takashi Miike's Black Society Trilogy' for Blu-ray on January 17. After several years spent working almost exclusively in the direct-to-video world of "V-cinema" in Japan, Takashi Miike announced himself as a world-class filmmaking talent with this trio of thematically-connected, character-centric crime stories about violence, the underworld of Japanese society, families both real and surrogate, and the possibly hopeless task of finding one's place in the world. His first films made specifically for theatrical release, and his first for a major studio, the "Black Society Trilogy" was the beginning of Miike's mature career as a filmmaker and they remain among the prolific director's finest works. Set in the bustling Kabuki-cho nightlife neighborhood of Tokyo, Shinjuku Triad Society follows a mixed-race cop (Kippei Shiina, Outrage) struggling with private issues while hunting a psychotic criminal (Tomorowo Taguchi, Tetsuo the Iron Man) who traffics in children's organs. Rainy Dog, shot entirely in Taiwan, is about an exiled yakuza (Dead or Alive's Show Aikawa) who finds himself saddled with a son he never knew he had and a price on his head after the Chinese gang he works for decides to turn on him. Ley Lines moves from the countryside to the city and back, as three Japanese youths of Chinese descent (including The Raid 2's Kazuki Kitamura) seek their fortune in Tokyo, only to run afoul of a violent gang boss (Naoto Takenaka, The Happiness of the Katakuris). Three of the most dramatically moving films created by the director, the "Black Society Trilogy" offers clear proof that Miike's frequent pigeonholing as a specialist in bloody spectacle is only one aspect of his filmmaking career, and taken as a whole, the films are among the finest works ever to deal with the way violence and brutality can unexpectedly destroy even the most innocent of lives. Amazon Readies Second Season of 'One Mississippi' Starring Tig Notaro[teaser]The comedy series from creators Tig Notaro and Diablo Cody will return for a second season.[/teaser] Amazon has announced a second season order for its original show 'One Mississippi.' An exact release date has not been announced yet, but the new season is expected to premiere in 2017 exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in the US, UK, Germany, Austria, and Japan. "Making a show as comic and tragic as One Mississippi is a risk. Pulling it off with such intelligence and nuance is rare," said Joe Lewis, Head of Comedy and Drama, Amazon Studios. "We're grateful for the audience response and we’re excited to bring them more of Tig and Kate's brilliance in season two." Starring Emmy Award nominated comedian Tig Notaro ('Transparent'), created by Notaro and Diablo Cody ('Young Adult'), with Kate Robin ('Six Feet Under') serving as Showrunner, 'One Mississippi' follows Tig's return to her hometown in Mississippi when her mother passes away unexpectedly. Sony Partners with Nokia for Virtual Reality Video Content Production and Distribution[teaser]The companies are teaming up to offer VR content.[/teaser] Sony and Nokia have announced a new multi-year worldwide agreement which will allow Sony Pictures to use Nokia's comprehensive OZO solution to capture, create, edit, and distribute VR content. In addition, the studio will also integrate the OZO Player SDK into Sony's Privilege Plus app on Google Play. "VR is an exploding medium that is rapidly changing how we communicate and bringing a deeper connection to how we experience content," said Paul Melin, vice president of Digital Media at Nokia Technologies. "We're thrilled to partner with Sony Pictures and its talented storytellers to apply our technology and create experiences only possible with OZO – like 3D 360 live VR broadcast." As part of the deal, Nokia will work with Sony to offer OZO hardware and software tools and technology to help create virtual reality content. This includes use of the OZO Virtual Reality 360 degree camera and the OZO Software Suite with OZO Live. OZO Live technology lets content creators produce fully immersive live 3D 360 degree video and audio experiences.
