This Contest Is Brought to You by the Number 8 – Win Super 8 on Blu-ray!

I just announced the results to our last contest, and we’ve already got another one raring to go. We have a really good prize this time, so I hope it perks up your attention. Would you like to win a copy of J.J. Abrams’ summer blockbuster ‘Super 8’ on Blu-ray? Of course you would! Well, we’ve got one to give away courtesy of our friends at Dolby Labs. It could be yours very easily. All you have to do is enter. Read on after the break for the contest rules.

Super 8‘ was a big box office hit, and turned out to be one of the more beloved movies of the summer this year. The film arrives on Blu-ray with stunning 1080p video and a slam-bang Dolby TrueHD 7.1 soundtrack. To get you pumped for this release, the folks at Dolby put together an Audio Lover’s Guide to ‘Super 8’ that highlights eight of the best auditory moments of the movie. Be sure to give that a read. Further, here’s a fascinating interview with sound designer Ben Burtt:

Are you excited yet? Good. How can you win a free copy of the Blu-ray? Simple. Here’s what you do:

The story of ‘Super 8’ concerns an alien monster that terrorizes a small American town. While showing you a picture of the monster may constitute a spoiler, the following clip from the movie does a clever job of setting it up without giving away too much.

The monster is never officially named in the movie. During production, he was nicknamed “Cooper.” I think we can do better than that. So, to win a copy of the Blu-ray, all you have to do is come up with a good name for the alien.

For example, I’m calling him “8.” Because, you know, the movie is ‘Super 8’. Yes, I know that the title refers to Super 8 film, not the monster, but I’m sticking with this anyway. You can surely do better. Show me up and give this monster a good name.

[Note: If our system rejects your comment for being too short, please precede it with “My entry is:” or something similar.]

We have one copy of the Blu-ray to give away. The cleverest, funniest, or just plain most interesting entry, as selected at our own subjective discretion, will win.

Entries are limited to 10 per person. That should give you plenty of opportunity to craft a good submission, but will also help us to avoid any potential appearance of awarding prizes based on volume rather than quality.

This contest is only open to entrants from the domestic United States. We will not ship internationally (whether you’re a U.S. citizen or not). Employees of High-Def Digest or Internet Brands and their families are not eligible. Standard contest rules and conditions apply. People who have won any of our previous contests within the past one year are also not eligible to win, but may get Honorable Mentions.

The deadline for entry is this Friday, November 25th. The winners will be announced next week.
