'Battlestar Galactica' Announced for Blu-ray

The wait is over: Universal Studios has officially announced a July Blu-ray release for the complete 'Battlestar Galactica.'
Following months of teasing and web rumors, which strongly hinted at a summer high-def release for the much-beloved cult sci-fi series, Universal earlier this week alerted retailers to a pending announcement. Though dates remained unspecified, pre-order listings soon followed on many top retail sites, including Amazon.com.
Confirming the widely expected, Universal has now issued an official press release announcing a July 28 landing for 'Battlestar Galactica: Season 4.5' and 'Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series.' Both titles will arrive day-and-date on Blu-ray and DVD.
Both the three-disc 'Season 4.5' and the mammoth twenty-disc(!) 'The Complete Series' will see all episodes presented on BD-50 dual-layer discs, in 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video (1.78:1) with DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround tracks.
'Season 4.5' is also confirmed to included extended versions of three, as-yet-unspecified episodes.
Extras on 'Season 4.5' include audio commentaries (episodes not identified) by Ronald D. Moore, David Eick and Edward James Olmos, the five-part documentary "A Look Back," a trio of featurettes ("Evolution of a Cue," "...And They Have a Plan," "The Journey Ends: The Arrival"), deleted scenes and Eick's full video blogs that originally appeared on the internet.
Exclusive to the Blu-ray are three U-Control features: "The Oracle" interactive guide to ships and characters, "Battlestar Actual" glossary of terms, and the "What the Freak Happened to You?" exploration of the history and connections of your favorite characters through video clips and relevant facts. Also on the Blu-ray is the "Battlestar Galactica Ultimate Battle" interactive game, My Scenes, and a bonus featurette "The Musicians Behind Daybreak."
Universal has not revealed the bonus features for 'The Complete Series' set, but extras are expected to include at least those found on 'Season 4.5,' plus much more. We'll keep you posted.
Suggested list price for 'Season 4.5' has been set at $69.98, and $349.98 for 'The Complete Series.'
