The Ingredient Store: Double Fine, EA The Latest to Eye a THQ Franchise
Fri Jan 11, 2013 at 12:50 PM ETTags: Double Fine, EA, THQ (all tags)
Unlike the big publishers, Double Fine may be thinking 'Homeworld' or even 'Red Faction.'
With only eleven days from the scheduled THQ piecemeal ("title by title"), Double Fine has stepped forward in an apparent play to grab a down-and-out but otherwise well-known franchise from THQ.
As with the majority of reports following the THQ proceedings, the news comes via Distressed Debt Investing's Twitter feed. Earlier in the week, the same feed shed light on a series of visits by EA to various THQ studios, which are still working on games regardless of demands by multiple parties including Warner Bros. and EA to bring THQ's bankruptcy towards an end of operations ruling, thereby necessitating the piecemeal auction.

Double Fine Will Broadcast the Final Hours of its Kickstarter Campaign Live Tonight
Tue Mar 13, 2012 at 12:30 PM ETTags: Double Fine Adventure, Double Fine, Tim Schafer, Adventure Games, Kickstarter (all tags)
The fundraiser wraps up in just a few hours, with a current pledge of 3,075,423.
The Kickstarter fundraising from Double Fine has surpassed the company's wildest dreams. They asked for a mere $400,000 and the gaming community has given them over $3 million. Tim and the rest of the team are incredibly thankful for the support and are definitely going to be showing it tonight when they broadcast the end of the campaign live.
The live stream starts at 3pm PDT, 6pm EDT. No word on what's actually going to be happening on the live stream, but it's safe to assume that you'll see some hilarity.
Tomorrow the Kickstarter campaign will be over and it'll be time to make the game. No pressure Double Fine, but we're expecting awesomeness.

Tim Schafer "Making it Rain" with Your Kickstarter Money
Fri Mar 09, 2012 at 12:30 PM ETTags: Tim Schafer, Double Fine, Adventure Games, Kickstarter, Funny (all tags)
Seriously though, there's some cool stuff on the way.
During his presentation at the Game Developers Choice Awards, Double Fine boss Tim Schafer showed some slides that revealed just what he's been up to with the money you've pitched in on Kickstarter and it's, well, disrespectful to say the least.
In all seriousness, Schafer is doing some cool things for his fans by adding a soundtrack to the pledge packages, revealing some bloopers from his pitch video and, best of all, posted an "Ask Me Anything" thread on Reddit in which he was both frank and funny when talking about his company, his games and the industry as a whole. It's definitely worth reading.
You can expect more of this unprecedented transparency in the near future. For now, if you want a really in-depth read about the Kickstarter pitch video, 2 Player Productions has it covered.

Double Fine's Adventure Game will Come to PC, Mac, Linux, iOS and Android
Thu Feb 16, 2012 at 11:30 AM ETTags: Double Fine, Kickstarter, Adventure Games, Tim Schafer (all tags)
More platforms are possible in the future, depending on funding.
The response to Double Fine's Kickstarter campaign surprised everyone involved - especially company head Tim Schafer. Thanks to the $1.8 million that has been pledged to the project so far, the company has announced that they'll be able to put the game on PC, Mac, Linux, iOS devices and certain Android phones.
The beta version of the game will only be available to backers, which is leading Double Fine to launch the title on Steam initially. Once the game comes out fully, there will be a DRM free version available.
Schafer says that more features and platforms could happen, but hasn't specified just what those would be and what it would take to make them happen.

Double Fine Making a New Adventure Game Funded by Kickstarter
Thu Feb 09, 2012 at 10:30 AM ETTags: Double Fine, Tim Schafer, Adventure Games, Kickstarter, Mindblowingly Awesome Things (all tags)
As of the time of this writing, the company is only $25,000 away from its goal.
Tim Schafer is a name well known by adventure game fans. He, along with Ron Gilbert, created 'The Secret of Monkey Island.' He's also the man behind 'Full Throttle,' 'Grim Fandango' and 'Maniac Mansion: Day of the Tentacle.' So when Schafer announced that he was working on a new point-and-click adventure game, people got excited.
Schafer and Double Fine announced the new game yesterday afternoon, when they also revealed that funding would be coming directly from money raised on Kickstarter. The plan is to raise $400,000 of which $300,000 will be used to fund the game. The other $100,000 will go to documenting the creative process and releasing monthly videos to show how things are going. Those backing the project will also get access to a special community where they can talk to developers as well as a beta version of the game when it launches. Assuming you shell out $15 or more, you'll get a copy of the full version as well.
Since the announcement of the Kickstarter campaign yesterday evening, Double Fine has raised $375,000, just out of reach of the goal. That's at the time of this writing of course - 5:00am, don't ask why - and funding will run until Tuesday, March 13th.
There's no doubt that Double Fine will not only meet but exceed the amount of money needed for the project. The Kickstarter FAQ answers the question of where that extra cash will go. "The extra money will be put back into the game and documentary. This could result in anything from increased VO and music budgets to additional release platforms for the game." If numbers keep growing like they are now, we should be able to expect very big things from this game indeed.
