Amazon Prime Instant Video Comes to the PlayStation 3
Wed Apr 04, 2012 at 10:30 AM ETTags: Amazon Prime Streaming, PlayStation 3 (all tags)
Sony's system is the first to get access to Amazon's streaming service – no word yet on Xbox 360 and Wii.
You can enjoy Amazon Prime Instant Video on a few different devices, but up until now it hasn't been available on a videogame system. Considering that around half of Netflix users connect through either their 360, PS3 or Wii, this is a big step for Prime.
It's also a nice step forward for the PlayStation 3, which has been battling with the Xbox 360 in a war of non-gaming content. Prime Instant Video is definitely a strong pickup for Sony and a nice addition to their already strong entertainment suite.
There's no word at this point on whether we'll see Prime on the Xbox or Wii, but we're certain to find out more in the near future. It would be surprising for Microsoft in particular not to pursue this.

That’s right Amazon Prime subscribers, you can finally get your Shark Week on.
Over 3,000 documentaries and show episodes from the Discovery Channel, Learning Channel – now known as simply TLC because of the very small amount of educational programming it actually has – Animal Planet and Science have all been added to Amazon Prime Instant Video. That’s a massive amount of new programming and it brings the total number of titles available on the service to over 17,000.
Titles new to the service include ‘Mythbusters,’ ‘Deadliest Catch,’ and, of course, everything wonderful that Shark Week brings every year.

New Licensing Deal Brings Viacom Shows to Amazon Instant Video
Fri Feb 10, 2012 at 10:00 AM ETTags: Amazon Prime Streaming, Viacom, Comedy Central, MTV, Streaming (all tags)
Older shows from Spike, Comedy Central, MTV, and Nickelodeon will be added.
Amazon is working hard to add new content to its video services, and a new deal with Viacom does just that. Episodes of shows from the usual assortment of Viacom's TV channels have been added to Prime Instant Video.
The shows coming to Amazon aren't anything shocking or new - it seems to mostly be the same content that Netflix offers. Still, the addition of shows like 'Yo Gabba Gabba,' 'Jersey Shore,' and 'Chappele's Show' will certainly bring smiles to the faces of Prime members.
There's still a rumor floating around that Amazon is going to break off it streaming service into something separate from the rest of Amazon, but nothing to show for it quite yet.

ABC/Disney Sign New Deals to Bring More Content to Amazon and Netflix
Tue Nov 01, 2011 at 10:00 AM ETTags: Amazon Prime Streaming, Netflix, ABC, Disney (all tags)
New content includes 'Felicity,' 'Greek,' more from Marvel, and 'Lost.'
The folks at ABC/Disney are all about streaming, and have signed a deal with Netflix and a deal with Amazon on the same day that gives even more content to the pair of companies.
The Amazon Prime deal promises episodes from 'Grey's Antatomy,' 'Lost,' the extremely underrated 'X-Men: Evolution' and a few others. In all, 800 new episodes are ready to rock on Amazon.
It's hard to tell whether the Netflix deal is bigger or if the press release just lists more titles, but in addition to mentioning everything 'Amazon' did, Netflix has mentioned plenty of new Disney programming like 'The Suite Life on Deck,' 'Hannah Montana' and 'Phineas & Ferb.'
No matter how you look at it, it's a good day to subscribe to a streaming service.

Ready to get your Antiques Roadshow on?
The streaming selection at Amazon keeps looking better and better. They're not to the point where Netflix has anything to worry about, but when it comes to television shows - this seems to be their main focus in recent months - it's starting to look pretty appealing.
If the service were available Today they've added 1,000 new television episodes from PBS, including 'NOVA', 'Frontline' and 'Antiques Roadshow'. You'll also find the Ken Burns documentaries 'Civil War,' 'Jazz,' and 'Baseball.'
Amazon says that, of course, this isn't it for them. More Fox shows are coming to the lineup including 'Malcolm in the Middle' and 'King of the Hill,' as well as the Julia Child cooking show 'The French Chef.' All this, plus free two-day shipping for $79 a year.
