New to VUDU: Week of November 20th, 2011

New to VUDU: Week of November 20th, 2011

VUDU had a slow start to November. The streaming service didn’t add too many notable titles during the first two weeks of the month. Fortunately, things pick up a bit this week, which sees several interesting new additions.

One from the Vault: ‘Johnny Dangerously’

This week’s flick comes pretty close to Al Capone’s vault. It’s a lost classic, the likes no Blu-ray player has ever seen, and one of the final funny performances of a funny man that I miss in funny roles.

The Netflix Stream: Week of November 13th, 2011

The Netflix Stream: Week of November 13th, 2011

Some weeks, Netflix goes through massive content changes, forcing us to add and subtract things from our queues to reflect the new landscape. Then there are weeks like this one, with barely any changes worth talking about. I guess that fans of ‘Jersey Shore’ and ‘Bridezillas’ will be happy, but let’s be honest, they don’t really count.

New to VUDU: Week of November 13th, 2011

New to VUDU: Week of November 13th, 2011

It’s another slow week in VUDU Town. Only a small handful of titles are being added to the streaming service. You know what that means – It’s time to dig into the back catalog to find something fun that can’t be gotten on Blu-ray yet.

One from the Vault: ‘High Noon’

Do not forsake me, oh, my darlin’,
On this, our wedding day.
Do not forsake me, oh, my darlin’,
Wait; wait alone.
I do not know what fate awaits me.
I only know I must be brave.
For I must face a man who hates me,
Or lie a coward, a craven coward;
Or lie a coward in my grave.

New to VUDU: Week of November 6th, 2011

New to VUDU: Week of November 6th, 2011

Aside from one obvious heavy-hitter (which everyone reading this blog will probably buy on Blu-ray anyway), this is a pretty slow week for VUDU. Oh well, that’s why it’s so nice that the streaming service has such a huge wealth of HD titles in the back catalog to browse through as well.

One from the Vault: ‘Hawaii Five-O’

The show aired for twelve seasons, a seriously respectable run. Its revival attempt has been positively received and is most of the way through a second season. Its theme song is known the world over (and was even hilariously confused for the American National Anthem in the Australian film ‘The Dish’). All 279 episodes are now streaming in HD on Netflix. Book ‘em, Danno!

VUDU Diaries: ‘The Hunger’

VUDU Diaries: ‘The Hunger’

In addition to writing the weekly updates that announce new titles added to the service, I also actually, you know, use VUDU instant streaming to watch movies too. In fact, VUDU came in very handy on Halloween night earlier this week, when Mrs. Z and I got a hankering to watch Tony Scott’s ultra-stylish 1983 vampire flick ‘The Hunger’. You can’t get it on Blu-ray or Netflix streaming, but VUDU has the movie in 1080p now.

The Netflix Stream: Week of October 30th, 2011

The Netflix Stream: Week of October 30th, 2011

Last week was pretty devastating, but Netflix makes up for it this week by penning a new deal with ABC/Disney that brings plenty of new content. The deal also returns some of the stuff we’ve been missing, including the show ‘Lost’, which I should really get around to watching the rest of. Only one movie that I consider worth mentioning is leaving the stream too, and that’s nice to see.

New to VUDU: Week of October 30th, 2011

You might expect a streaming service like VUDU to add a bunch of new horror titles to the line-up on the week of Halloween. Due to licensing agreements and whatnot, I guess that’s just not how things shook out this year. Instead, the week seems to be dominated by romance and relationship dramas. Consider that counter programming. You’re probably sick of the werewolves and zombies and serial killers by now anyway, right?
