'Suffragette' Starring Carey Mulligan & Helena Bonham Carter Announced for Blu-ray[teaser]Director Sarah Gavron's drama is heading to Blu-ray in February. [/teaser] In an early announcement to retailers, Universal is preparing 'Suffragette' for Blu-ray on February 2. A drama that tracks the story of the foot soldiers of the early feminist movement, women who were forced underground to pursue a dangerous game of cat and mouse with an increasingly brutal State. These women were not primarily from the genteel educated classes, they were working women who had seen peaceful protest achieve nothing. Radicalized and turning to violence as the only route to change, they were willing to lose everything in their fight for equality - their jobs, their homes, their children and their lives. Maud was one such foot soldier. The story of her fight for dignity is as gripping and visceral as any thriller, it is also heart-breaking and inspirational. Specs have not been detailed yet, but supplements will include: Inside Suffragette; Suffragette: Looking Back, Looking Forward; Making the VFX for Suffragette; and Feature Commentary with Director Sarah Gavron and Screenwriter Abi Morgan. Suggested list price for the Blu-ray/Digital HD combo pack is $34.98. You can find the latest specs for 'Suffragette' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, where it's indexed under February 2. David Simon's 'Show Me a Hero' Dated and Detailed for Blu-ray[teaser]The acclaimed miniseries starring Oscar Isaac and Catherine Keener is planned for Blu-ray in February. [/teaser] In an early announcement to retailers, HBO will be releasing 'Show Me a Hero' on Blu-ray on February 2. Emmy® winner David Simon is responsible for some of the best, must-see programming in HBO history (The Wire, Treme) and his latest creation, the six-part miniseries Show Me a Hero, is yet another example of “essential viewing” (Los Angeles Times). The miniseries is a story of home, race and community that follows the young mayor of Yonkers, NY (Oscar Isaacs) who must usher the city through a highly contentious government mandate to build affordable housing in its white neighborhoods. In an America generations removed from the greatest civil rights struggles of the 1960s, the young mayor of a mid-sized American city is faced with a federal court order that says he must build a small number of low-income housing units in the white neighborhoods of his town. His attempt to do so tears the entire city apart, paralyzes the municipal government and, ultimately, destroys the mayor and his political future. From creator David Simon (HBO's Treme and The Wire) and director Paul Haggis (Crash), and based on the nonfiction book of the same name by Lisa Belkin, the six-part HBO Miniseries presentation Show Me a Hero explores notions of home, race and community through the lives of elected officials, bureaucrats, activists and ordinary citizens in Yonkers, NY. Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis, Star Wars: Episode VII—The Force Awakens) shines in a “monumental” (San Francisco Chronicle) performance as Mayor Nick Wasicsko, alongside Catherine Keener (Oscar® nominee for Capote and Being John Malkovich), as longtime East Yonkers resident Mary Dorman; Alfred Molina (HBO’s The Normal Heart) as Councilman Henry J. Spallone; Winona Ryder (Oscar® nominee for Little Women) as Councilwoman Vinni Restiano; LaTanya Richardson-Jackson (Blue Bloods) as housing project resident Norma O’Neal; Bob Balaban (The Grand Budapest Hotel) as U.S. District Judge Leonard Sand; Jim Belushi (The Defenders) as incumbent Yonkers Mayor Angelo Martinelli, who lost his bid for a seventh term to Nick Wasicsko; and Jon Bernthal (The Wolf of Wall Street) as NAACP attorney Michael Sussman. The mini-series is executive produced by Simon, Haggis, Nina K. Noble, Gail Mutrux and Zorzi. The 2-disc set and will feature 1080p video, lossless 5.1 audio, and supplements include a behind the scenes featurette.
