Greg McLean's 'The Darkness' Dated for Blu-ray[teaser]The horror flick starring Kevin Bacon and Radha Mitchell is planned for a September for a release. [/teaser] In an early announcement to retailers, Universal will be releasing 'The Darkness' on Blu-ray on September 6. From the producers of The Purge and Insidious, comes this terrifying supernatural thriller starring Kevin Bacon (TV's The Following) and Radha Mitchell (Silent Hill). When their young son (David Mazouz, TV's Gotham) brings home five mystical stones he found on their family's camping trip to the Grand Canyon, Peter (Bacon) and Bronny (Mitchell) begin to notice strange things happening in their house. Having awakened dark forces bound to the rocks, the family fights for survival as malicious demons feed off their fears and threaten to destroy them. Yamaha Announces BD-S681 & AVENTAGE BD-A1060 Blu-ray Players with 4K Ultra HD Upscaling[teaser]Two new Blu-ray players with 4K upscaling have been revealed. [/teaser] Yamaha has detailed the latest additions to its home theater lineup. The BD-S681 ($329.95) and BD-A1060 ($549.95) Blu-ray players are both set to start shipping next month. "Yamaha Blu-ray Disc players have always delivered the most immersive experiences in picture quality and music fidelity and our latest models continue that tradition," said Bob Goedken, general manager, AV division, Yamaha Corporation of America. "The Yamaha BD-S681 and AVENTAGE BD-A1060 seamlessly and effortlessly deliver the highest quality playback of multiple audio and video formats and provide 4K video upscaling with the precision and reliability our customers expect." Both models use advanced 4K Ultra HD upscaling technology to enhance HD content on Ultra HD displays. Likewise, the players include support for full HD Blu-ray Discs, 3D Blu-ray Discs, DVDs, SACDs and standard audio CDs. In addition, each model offers integrated Wi-Fi connectivity and a Wi-Fi Direct mode, allowing users to access BD Live extra features on Blu-ray Discs and stream music directly from a mobile device to the player. Designed to complement the Yamaha RX-V 81 line of AV receivers, the BD-S681 features similar styling and operation, along with a USB port and an integrated 192 kHz / 24-bit DAC for DSD streams up to 5.6 MHz, FLAC and Apple Lossless (ALAC) music files. Meanwhile, the AVENTAGE BD-A1060 incorporates a 192 kHz / 32-bit DAC, a high-purity power supply, and independent circuit boards with a magnetic shield between them. Beyond the company's two new Blu-ray players, Yamaha also recently announced the WX-010 Wireless Speaker ($200) and the YSP-2700 Sound Bar ($1,200). Both products offer support for Yamaha's MusicCast wireless multiroom audio technology. With MusicCast, users can stream music through a simple Android or iOS app, and easily link to other MusicCast speakers, AV receivers and Hi-Fi gear in other rooms to share music throughout the home. DISH Introduces New Voice Remote for Hopper 3 & 4K Joey Set-Top Boxes[teaser]A new voice remote has been released for DISH customers. [/teaser] DISH has announced the launch of its new voice remote. The remote is available for new and existing Hopper 3 and 4K Joey set-top box users. "Voice Remote is simple to use, affordable and, most impressively, operates with incredible speed and accuracy," said Vivek Khemka, DISH executive vice president and chief technology officer. "Leveraging modern navigation paradigms like touch and voice, this remote represents a complete reinvention of the outdated remote control customers have come to expect from cable providers." The DISH voice remote features voice recognition, a clickable touchpad, and backlighting. The voice recognition technology can search for results based on program title, actor, or genre. Likewise, customers can also use voice commands for basic control functions like recording and changing channels. Meanwhile, the touchpad offers two modes -- a blank mode for navigation and a numeric mode with an illuminated keypad for entering in channels and passwords. In addition, the device can also act as a universal remote with infrared capabilities for up to two IR components (TV/AUX models). Finally, the compact remote has been designed to fit in the palm of a user's hand with dimensions of 5.59"(L) x 2.25"(W) x 1.02"(D). Hopper 3 and 4K Joey customers can now purchase the Voice Remote for $30 through www.dish.com or by calling 1-800-333-DISH. The Hopper 3 features 16 tuners and runs a Broadcom BCM7445 quad-core ARM application processor at 1.5 GHz, 21K DMIPS with a 2TB hard drive for up to 500 hours of high-definition recording (or 2,000 hours of standard definition recording). STARZ Subscription Streaming Service Arrives on Roku Devices[teaser]The STARZ streaming platform is now available on Roku products. [/teaser] Roku has announced the arrival of the STARZ subscription streaming service on its devices. The standalone STARZ channel offers STARZ online streaming without the need for a traditional cable or satellite package. The STARZ streaming service provides access to more than 2,700 titles each month, including STARZ original series like 'Outlander,' 'Power,' 'The Girlfriend Experience,' and the upcoming 'American Gods,' as well as popular movies including 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' and, later this year, 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens.' Likewise, subscribers can also watch content from STARZ sister networks STARZ ENCORE and MOVIEPLEX .The service lets up to four users watch programming simultaneously along with support for virtually unlimited downloads. Wolf Gremm's 'Kamikaze '89' Planned for Blu-ray[teaser]The 1989 sci-fi thriller will receive the Blu-ray treatment in September. [/teaser] In an early announcement to retailers, Film Movement is working on 'Kamikaze '89' for Blu-ray on September 27. In his last acting role, legendary director Rainer Werner Fassbinder plays Jansen, an expert cop living in a dystopic future (and clad in a sharp leopard skin jacket) where a mysterious organization known as The Combine controls all media. After The Combine's headquarters receives several bomb threats, Jansen is tasked with infiltrating the nefarious conglomerate.
