Julie Dash's 'Daughters of the Dust' Blu-ray Announced and Detailed[teaser]The 1991 film will be available on Blu-ray next month. [/teaser] In an early announcement to retailers, Cohen Media Group is working on 'Daughters of the Dust' for Blu-ray on April 11. At the dawn of the 20th century, a multigenerational family in the Gullah community in the Sea Islands off of South Carolina -- former West African slaves who adopted many of their ancestors' Yoruba traditions -- suffers a generational split. An older group of sisters return after migrating north to New York with intentions of bringing the rest of their family back across the water to the mainland with them. But, tensions arrive when the newly Americanized sisters view their homeland's way of living as backwards, all while Nana, the family elder who embodies the traditions and folklore of their African roots, is struggling to keep the family together and to pass on the knowledge of their ancestors. Foster's 'Those Redheads From Seattle - 3D' Dated for Blu-ray[teaser]The 1953 adventure film has received a new restoration completed by the 3-D Film Archive, LLC.[/teaser] As previously reported, Kino is working on 'Those Redheads From Seattle - 3D' for Blu-ray, and now the release date has been announced as May 9. This Technicolor Pine-Thomas production from 1953 features excellent stereoscopic photography by Oscar-winning cinematographer Lionel Lindon (Around the World in Eighty Days). Directed by Lewis R. Foster and featuring a stellar cast which includes Rhonda Fleming, Gene Barry and Agnes Moorehead, "the first 3-D musical" also contains five terrific tunes by popular recording artists Teresa Brewer, Guy Mitchell and the Bell Sisters. Historically significant as the first widescreen production from Paramount Studios, Redheads has not been seen in 1.66:1 for more than sixty years. With Disc-to-Digital, customers can now turn their DVDs and Blu-rays into digital versions by simply scanning them through the VUDU mobile app. "The average movie collector owns nearly 100 DVDs and Blu-rays. We know these customers have invested a lot into building their physical movie collections," said Jeremy Verba, general manager, Vudu. "As more and more customers create digital libraries, we are constantly looking for ways to help them unlock additional value from the movies they already own."
