Sony Preps 'Spider-Man' Limited Edition Collections for 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray[teaser]The Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield Spider-Man flicks are swinging toward Ultra HD Blu-ray in new Digibook collections.[/teaser] In an early announcement to retailers, Sony is preparing a Spider-Man Limited Edition Collection and Amazing Spider-Man Limited Edition Collection for 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray on October 17. In addition, a Best Buy Exclusive Spider-Man Legacy Collection SteelBook with all five films will be released that same day as well. The Spider-Man Limited Edition Collection features the original trilogy of Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3, all directed by Sam Raimi and starring Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man and Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane. In this seven-disc set, Spider-Man battles such classic villains as Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), Doc Ock (Alfred Molina), Sandman (Thomas Haden Church), Venom (Topher Grace) and New Goblin (James Franco). Packaged in a limited edition collectible 36-page Digibook featuring photos and behind-the-scenes detail. All three films will feature 2160p video with HDR and Dolby Atmos soundtracks. KEF Reveals CEDIA 2017 Product Lineup[teaser]Several new audio products have been announced.[/teaser] To coincide with the CEDIA 2017 tech show in San Diego this week, KEF has announced new gear and product updates. The lineup includes the Ci5160REF THX Ultra 2 speaker, Q50a Atmos Module, KUBE Subwoofer Series, LS50W speaker, and Space One Wireless headphones. Here's a full rundown of all the company's latest products and announcements from the show: Ci5160REF THX Ultra 2 Speakers First up, the company has announced the launch of the latest addition to its Extreme Home Theatre THX Ci Series. The new Ci5160REF THX Ultra 2 speakers are shipping now for an MSRP of $10,000 per unit. The in-wall speakers feature four linear 6.5 inch bass drivers, along with KEF's flagship 5 inch MF/HF Uni-Q driver array with a 1 inch vented aluminum dome tweeter at the array's acoustic center. Likewise, each unit is finished with a brushed 7/16" thick aluminum front baffle and can be bi-wired and bi-amped. Likewise, the speaker features a High Frequency Lift designed for use behind a perforated projection screen. Sony Announces New 4K HDR Projectors with Prices Starting at $5,000[teaser]Three new 4K projector models have been revealed.[/teaser] Sony has detailed the latest additions to its 4K HDR home theater projector lineup. The new models include the entry-level VPL-VW285ES ($5,000), mid-level VPL-VW385ES ($8,000), and premium VPL-VW885ES ($25,000). Netflix Brings Mobile HDR Support to Samsung Galaxy Note 8, LG V30, and Sony Xperia XZ1[teaser]Three more smartphone models now support mobile HDR.[/teaser] Netflix has announced the addition of mobile HDR (high dynamic range) streaming playback to the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, LG V30, and Sony Xperia XZ1. The three smartphones now join the previously supported Sony Xperia XZ Premium and LG G6 handsets. In order to watch HDR streaming content on the newly supported mobile devices, users will need version 5.0 of the Netflix Android app along with the latest firmware for their phone. Likewise, subscribers will need the premium $12 per month Netflix plan. HDR is an advanced display and image mastering technology that offers expanded brightness to improve contrast between dark and light aspects of an image, bringing out deeper black levels and more realistic details in specular highlights -- like the sun reflecting off of an ocean -- in specially graded HDR material. With that said, while the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, LG V30, Sony Xperia XZ1, and Sony Xperia XZ Premium all now offer HDR10 playback through Netflix, the LG G6 remains the only model to support the Dolby Vision HDR format.
