Mystery Contest Results: Here Comes ‘The Judge’!

Thank you to everyone who entered this week’s Mystery Contest. As you can tell from today’s post headline, the prize we kept hidden until now is the Robert Downey, Jr. legal drama ‘The Judge’. One of you is getting a free Blu-ray copy, and all you had to do is ask. Isn’t that nice of us?

We hope you enjoyed this little game. I thought it was a fun way to spice up our weekly Blu-ray Highlights post, and I’d like to try it again at some point. Still, I’m a little disappointed that we only received about 40 entries. Was it that this week’s slate of new Blu-ray releases didn’t pique enough interest?

I think it was probably a mistake of mine to put a banner image with the movie ‘Fury’ at the top of the post, which I think created unnecessary confusion as to whether that would be the prize. The next time I try this, I’ll use some sort of nonspecific image.

Of the entries, five people guessed the title correctly. (And yet 17 people voted for it in the poll. Why didn’t the other 12 enter the contest?) As stated in the instructions, all I asked was that you explain to me why you’d like to win the disc. The winner is Evan W., who made this eloquent case for why I should give it to him:

My wife and I are both attorneys and she wants to be a judge one day. Yes, some of the courtroom scenes are overly melodramatic and a good amount of the courtroom testimony in the movie would not happen in real life (because of certain procedural/evidentiary rules…I won’t bore you with details). However, we both enjoyed the performances by Duvall and Downey so much that we overlooked some of the film’s deficiencies. Which is hard for attorneys to do when it comes to legal dramas. Chalk this one up to our hearts outweighing our head.

Congratulations to Evan for winning ‘The Judge‘ on Blu-ray. We’ll try to do this again soon.

Thanks so much. I’ve followed this blog since the very beginning and I’m super excited to win one. Thanks again, my wife will greatly appreciate it as well!

Had a feeling that it might be the Judge. If the Judge was in a “named” contest instead of this mysterious contest, there would be less than 40, 17, or maybe even 5 entries.

And despite suspecting a “game theory” play to win a copy of the Judge. I choose not to ask for it. I would be glad for the 40 entries this contest got.

I think it really just had to do with the fact that there were really no movies last week that I was that interested in. A few rentals, but there was nothing that I was like “Oh my gosh, I have to get that movie”. It was a Meh week, and the mystery disc ended up being for a movie I had never heard of.

Now, tell us you got a workprint of the new Star Wars movie, and see how many entries you get.
