SteelBook art is so hit-and-miss these days that, even as a completist for certain collections, I’m left torn on whether to buy some new ones. I’m also resisting one I definitely do like for other reasons.

I have every other Pixar feature in SteelBook form on my shelf (yes, even Cars 2), but this gimmicky design isn’t doing much for me. Is that supposed to be a washing machine? Does the movie have an important laundry scene in it?

UK retailer Zavvi offers an alternative that trades UHD for 3D. The artwork is clearly a temp image marked “Not Final.” I put in a preorder anyway, and can only hope that whatever it turns out to be is different and better than the American version.

Because this disc is a UK release, the action sequel is labeled with its international title, Sicario 2: Soldado. I really dig the artwork, but I’ve heard a lot of mixed-to-negative things about the movie itself.

Wes Anderson’s delightful new stop-motion animated fantasy is my favorite movie of the year so far. (True, I don’t go out to the theater much anymore, but it’s nonetheless really good.) I love everything about this SteelBook design, but the OCD in me still wants to hold out for the inevitable Criterion Collection release to go with my Criterion copies of Anderson’s other films.

Perennial home video staple Evil Dead 2 has been released, and re-released, and re-released, and re-released on DVD and Blu-ray almost too many times to count. The movie now makes its way to 4k Ultra HD for you to buy all over again, starting in Europe.

I’m honestly not sure how I feel about the SteelBook art, which is credited to an artist named Anthony Petrie from the Gallery 1988 collective. It’s a little too cluttered and comic book-y (and almost has a Mondo aesthetic that I typically don’t like), but it also kind of suits the movie. I could go either way on this one, frankly.
