Some things are just too good for words. Don’t you absolutely love going back into an actor’s past to find some of the crazy roles he or she has taken? I love seeing Jean-Claude Van Damme in the background of ‘Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo’. It blew my mind when I noticed Tobin Bell of ‘Saw‘ fame in a small role in ‘Goodfellas‘. This one, for me, beats them all.
Way back before we all got to know and love Russell Crowe as the ultra-tough characters he played in ‘Gladiator‘, ‘Proof of Life’, or ‘Cinderella Man‘, the now-famous kiwi acted on the stage. Back in 1988 he played the roles of both Eddie and Dr. Everett Scott in an Australian production of ‘The Rocky Horror Show’. That performance has thankfully made it onto the internet.
One thing that may come as a surprise is that he’s actually pretty good in both roles. His German accent is lacking at points as Dr. Scott, and of course no one can hold a candle to Eddie a la Meatloaf, but he’s definitely better than most.
You can check out his performances on YouTube in a pair of videos. Check these out!

Tobin Bell was a very prolific character actor before the Saw movies made him famous. I first noticed him back in 1993, when he popped up in very similar minor villain roles back-to-back in The Firm, In the Line of Fire, and Malice.

Anthony Stewart Head—Giles of TV’s “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”—used to portray Dr. Frank-N-Furter on stage in the UK. What spooks me about this is that I actually *can* imagine it!
