Have You Seen the New Mortal Kombat Pitch Video?

This video started making the rounds earlier in the week, and it’s been generating a lot of interest. If you somehow haven’t seen it yet, you’re in for a treat. It’s an eight minute long pitch for a new ‘Mortal Kombat’ movie. And it actually looks pretty decent.

There’s a lot of fan service in the trailer, including some very cheesy introduction lines for the characters. Nothing as obviously pandering as the introduction of R2-D2 in ‘The Phantom Menace,’ but still pretty bad.

Aside from that, it actually seems like a pretty cool movie. The eight-minute pitch video features Michael Jai White, Jeri Ryan, and a decidedly more realistic look at the ‘Mortal Kombat’ universe. Scorpion doesn’t have a flaming skull head, Reptile’s just a dude with a skin disorder, and Baraka’s a plastic surgeon gone mad. It’s all very gritty and very real. Sure, it’s not true to the game, but it might make a better movie in the long run.

The scene that steals the show is the fight between Johnny Cage and Baraka. It’s really well choreographed. It’s fast, but not so fast that we can’t see what’s going on. We can see the story of it too; we know in each moment who’s winning and who’s losing. And the outcome becomes very, very clear in the end.

Check out the video for the new Mortal Kombat pitch on YouTube, in 1080p no less.
