R.I.P. Kosty

We start today with some sad news. This week, I was informed that the High-Def Digest community has lost one of its own. Long-time forum member “Kosty” recently passed away at the too-young age of 53.

Readers of our site’s High Definition Smackdown forum will remember Kosty as a passionate, prolific poster whose detailed new release updates and analysis of Blu-ray sales statistics were some of the most informative threads in the forum. Kosty joined the site’s community back in 2007 and posted multiple times pretty much every day until his final post in July of this year. In addition to High-Def Digest, Kosty regularly frequented several other prominent home theater discussion sites.

Although word of this news has only started to circulate over the last few days, it’s reported that Kosty passed away after a brief illness in early September. His obituary can be found here.

All of us here at High-Def Digest would like to extend our deepest condolences to his friends and family.

  1. When I was told this was real, it bugged me. The site has been around for years, but I can’t recall any passings of members, this being the first. I didn’t know Kosty well, since he participated in an area I didn’t, but I know the dude put a lot of effort into things, and NO ONE could ever say the man half assed anything, if he put that much effort into simple online arguments.

    RIP

I can’t recall the death of an active member either. I talked to Kosty a lot, initially when I joined the forum and later for moderation reasons. Ultimately though, I always respected the man. While he would argue over the silliest things (not brought on by himself necessarily), he was always well reasoned, logical, and polite. He was always one of the nicest people in the High Def Smackdown forum.

His numbers of course, were extremely valuable in itself.
