As if the current Criterion Collection sale weren’t enough to bleed your wallet dry, Barnes & Noble started a new Arrow Video sale this week to run simultaneously! You didn’t need to eat at all this month, did you?
Similar to the terms of the Criterion sale, Barnes & Noble is offering Arrow Video DVDs and Blu-rays at 50% off MSRP. However, the Arrow sale only applies to selected titles, not the label’s entire catalog. (For example, the Blu-ray edition of Bride of Re-Animator is part of the sale, but only the DVD edition of the original Re-Animator.) Fortunately, the selection is pretty healthy, comprised of over 150 Blu-rays that include plenty of desirable cult titles.
While Arrow mainly focuses on schlocky horror, Spaghetti Westerns, and foreign exploitation flicks that may seem pretty obscure to most viewers, the company has also branched out to include a number of mainstream movies, such as Terry Gilliam’s time-travel mindbender 12 Monkeys, John Frankenheimer’s car chase classic Ronin, and the delightful screwball comedy A Fish Called Wanda, among others. Some discs from the Arrow Academy art house imprint, like The Jacques Rivette Collection or Terence Davies’ period drama Distant Voices, Still Lives, are also eligible for the reduced pricing. In most cases, Arrow lavishes these films with a Criterion-like treatment, presenting them in the best available video masters and packing them with bonus features.
In the poll below, I’ve put together a list of all the Blu-rays included on the sale page. (I’ve excluded the DVDs.) Barnes & Noble has not specified an end date for the sale.
Titles I’m likely to prioritize include 12 Monkeys, The Day of the Jackal, The Navigator: A Medieval Odyssey, Federico Fellini’s Orchestra Rehearsal and The Voice of the Moon.

Well, since voting was supposed to be for movies you are buying, I would hope you were interested. 😉
I chose the “what are these movies” option, even though I knew what many of them were. I think the right option for me would be “Blah! I don’t want any of them!”

I haven’t even had a chance to crack open the 8 or so Arrow releases I picked up from their Halloween sale last month. I’ll sit this one out and probably grab a bunch in the spring at their next sale.

My copy of ‘Ronin’ could likely use an upgrade, it’s a Blu-Ray/DVD combo that comes in a DVD case.
