More Michael Myers and The Return of the Living Dead on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in October from Scream FactoryWhile the kiddos are getting dressed up and out begging for candy from total strangers, you can hunker in your home theater and enjoy four more fan-favorite fright flicks on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray from Scream Factory! With the Halloween season coming in fast, we were waiting for Scream Factory to make a few announcements. THey already had a stacked September with Army of Darkness, Evil Dead (2013), John Carpenter's The Fog, and Tobe Hooper's The Funhouse all coming to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray. After some rumors and early postings on various retailer websites, Scream Factory now has their October horror titles up for pre-order on the Shout! Store. Here's what's digging up out of its grave and into your collection... The Return of the Living Dead - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray This is actually the title we know the least about right now. Scream Factory already unleashed a pretty terrific Collector's Edition Blu-ray of Return of the Living Dead so we imagine most if not all of those features and extras will port over. Will there be Atmos? Will the original mono include all of the songs? We don't know yet. Their listing on their shop is pretty sparse. And because Shout/Scream hasn't yet thrown out a wide official announcement, we can only speculate HDR grade at this point but don't be surprised about Dolby Vision. Return of the Living Dead is slated to drop on October 18th - a Limited Edition with four enamel pins and a poster is up for Pre-order too. The Halloween 4K Collection (1995-2002)- 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Coming October 4th, 2022 - This is a large three-film, eight-disc set. Why a 4K Halloween box set, now but not for the first five films? you might ask. Well, consider the franchise entries in this set... Per the Shout! Store listing, we'll be getting Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (Theatrical and Producers Cut in 4K!), Halloween: H20 20 Years Later, and Halloween: Resurrection. Like Return of the Living Dead above, we know very little about this set in terms of specs and bonus features, but we do know from the packaging below, each film will come with its own case and slipcover in a similar design as the Halloween 1-5 sets last year so presumably there'll also be alternate cover art and we do expect bonus features not seen since the old 10-Film Deluxe franchise collection to make an appearance too. We also can see that The Curse of Michael Myers is going to be a 4-disc set, so probably a 4K UHD disc and a Blu-ray for each cut of the film instead of rolling with seamless branching. 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray & Blu-ray Release Guide - July 31, 2022 - August 6, 2022What a difference a week makes. I could be referring to the weather, or disc releases, or both. It actually fits both scenarios. Enter the month of August... Welcome to Volume 3 Episode 11 of our weekly release guide. A look at the highlights of what's coming to disc this week, as well as a look at announcements from last week. 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Releases- There are no imports to announce and there are no new releases in this category, but there are two decent catalog titles. First, from Arrow Video, a most interesting Horror/Sci-Fi flick from 1990, Flatliners. A well known director and an all-star cast, with the Arrow Video treatment, sounds like a winner? This next one is actually an Arrow Video release in the UK, but this side of the pond it's partner label Synapse Films. What I'm referring to is the next logical Dario Argento release, Tenebrae. This one has two options, a regular retail release, and an Exclusive Edition, which we've linked to DiabolikDVD. Next week, a blue video game character sequel, a Michael Mann masterpiece, something you do to a car, and more! Blu-ray releases- As indicated from last week, we get a little bit of breathing room as we anticipate a huge increase in volume of titles. The blu-ray counterpart of Flatliners as also available this week from Arrow Video. The comedy/crime category usually is a lot of fun, Kino Lorber has 1987's Catch the Heat this week. And how about some Chuck Norris action with a trio of films, A Force of One, Good Guys Wear Black and The Octagon. What interesting facts do you know about Chuck Norris? Here's one: The day Chuck Norris was born was the same day Adolf Hitler ended his own life, coincidence? Shout Select release Last Days In The Desert streets this week. The movie poster of a floating horse is intriguing. Poltergeist and The Lost Boys have been confirmed for 4K releases in September. They will be available as Best Buy Exclusive SteelBooks and Standard Edition releases. Lightyear has a confirmed street date of September 13th from Disney, no doubt in a bunch of the usual variations. I think the studios should have been working on October, with September already being so crowded. Arrow Video's October slate includes The Count Yorga Collection, Gothic Fantastico: Four Italian Tales of Terror and Two Witches. For the UK, there's a pair of Videodrome 4K releases and Take Back the Night on blu-ray. Videodrome is likely still leased to Criterion Collection in the US, meaning if you want a deluxe release, opt for the import. You could wait and see if Criterion will be offering it in some (yet to be announced) elaborate version, but as of yet, they are sticking to just the meat and potatoes releases. 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray & Blu-ray Release Guide - July 24, 2022 - July 30, 2022As we complete the month of July, how has the month treated you thus far? With all the releases these past few weeks, and the announcements for September, discretionary spending is at a premium, that's for sure. Welcome to Volume 3 Episode 10 of our weekly release guide. A look at the highlights of what's coming to disc this week, as well as a look at announcements from last week. 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Releases- We did warn you about the sheer volume of 4K titles coming this week. Let's get right to it. Import Monday has one notable title, that is to say if it hasn't been delayed again. From Second Sight Films, The Witch (or The VVitch, double V instead of a W) gets a deluxe looking set. I have always liked the various movie posters for this one, offering them as collector carts is a nice touch. Anxious to see what the included book is about too. New Release Tuesday has three titles. First, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness from Disney, available in lots of options. We get a standard edition, a Best Buy Exclusive SteelBook (minus the fancy stuff that was in last week's Zavvi release), a Target Exclusive Art Edition and a Walmart Exclusive with collectable enamel pin. My advice if you don't care much for the extras each retailer has, just go for the one with the cover art you like the most. Genius! From Paramount, an action/adventure, The Lost City starring Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum and Brad Pitt. From Warner Bros, DC Animated title Green Lantern: Beware My Power, available as a standard edition and as a Best Buy Exclusive SteelBook. Kicking off the catalog releases category, Kino has Stanley Kubrick's The Killing and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. The latter is loaded with star power whilst the former offers a chance to see where Kubrick was before he made it big, and our reviewer Dacid says it is a must own release. From Severin Films, an 80s drama titled Out of the Blue. From Scream Factory, Species gets a 4K upgrade. (You're welcome everyone. Within 12 hours of my import box set shipping, this one got a 4K announcement). From LionsGate, a pair of 4K upgrades, Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar and Primal. The only thing these releases are missing are the attractive slipcovers their blu-ray counterparts got, and of course the blu-ray itself (4K Ultra HD Blu-ray + Digital). Vinegar Syndrome has standard releases available now of Out of Order and Thriller: A Cruel Picture [3-Disc Edition] and Thriller: A Cruel Picture / They Call Her One Eye. Next week is almost a drought, we get a Dario Argento release with two options and the need for a need for a defibrillator. Blu-ray releases- Did I mention this category is painful to look at too? As of press time, all in we are looking at 87 skus! I do expect to move a dozen or so to next month (Vinegar Syndrome partner labels) once general release links come out. Diving right in, let's list the blu-ray counterparts of the above titles first. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness gets a standard release from Disney (may or may not get a red disc case, could be a retailer exclusive option like other MCU releases), The Lost City comes to us via Paramount, Green Lantern: Beware My Power comes to us via Warner Bros, Kino Lorber's got Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, there's Out of the Blue from Severin Films, and lastly we get Thriller: A Cruel Picture from Vinegar Syndrome. Trying something new here, clumping all of the TV on disc releases into one section. First from Paramount/CBS, The 4400: The Complete Series. The long awaited Night Gallery: Season Two comes to us via Kino Lorber. That Dirty Black Bag - Season 1 releases via AMC Entertainment. Anime highlights include BACK ARROW - Part 1, Case Closed: The Fist of Blue Sapphire, Cyber City Oedo 808 [SteelBook], Lupin the 3rd: Prison of the Past, Scar on the Praeter - The Complete Season, Vinland Saga - Complete Collection [Limited Edition] and Violence Jack - Complete OVA Collection. LionsGate proudly presents Mid-Century this week as their sole title. The Duke (2020) finally gets a release from Sony Pictures. Probably Covid delays (?) Severin Films releases The Eurocrypt of Christopher Lee Collection Volume Two. Did you get Volume One? Honorable mention: Early signs point that Abbott and Costello in Jack and the Beanstalk from ClassicFlix is the definitive version to own. Hopefully we can get a review out for you shortly. Notable announcements from last week: A 4K SteelBook image (Only @ Best Buy) for The Lost Boys has been leaked, and unfortunately for our wallets, yup, another September title! All three Godfather movies are getting 4K double-dips, this time as SteelBooks. I can dig the painted appearance covers and had I not bought the deluxe set already they would certainly be quite appealing to me. They do appear to not have the bonus features discs though. I will never say never on double-dipping. Mentioned last week, but now confirmed, Wes Craven's Scream 2 is getting a 4K release. Just like Scream, it appears on track for a SteelBook as well as a standard release. Criterion Collections October titles have been announced. For 4K (with blu-ray counterpart) look for Lost Highway, for 4K solo, Night of the Living Dead, and for blu-ray titles, Cure, Arsenic and Old Lace, La Llorona and Eve’s Bayou. Universal Pictures will be releasing a 4K disc of Monty Python's The Meaning of Life, care to guess which month? Rob Zombie's The Munsters Creeps Its Way Onto Blu-ray September 27thRob Zombie's rebirth of the classic television series crawls out of the streaming grave for aBlu-ray release on September 27th. Ever since this project was announced there has been a lot of controversy about Rob Zombie's The Munsters. While Zombie fans have hoped for the best, fans of the classic television series The Munsters have been bracing for the worst. After the less than enthusiastic reaction to the first trailer and news the film would be streaming exclusively on Netflix without word of a theatrical outing and news that the film has moved streaming services from its original home at Peacock to Netflix, the wind is not in this film's favor - to say the least. [Correction]Rob Zombie has taken to various social media platforms to correct the rumor that The Munsters was going to originally premier on Peacock and was sold off to Netflix. Apparently, it was always going to be on Netflix from the very beginning. The assumption that the film would be on Peacock came from the observation that since the film was funded by Universal Studios who owns Peacock and the original television series The Munsters is streaming on said service - so would the new movie. As a fan of House of a Thousand Corpses, The Devil's Rejects, and some aspects of his Halloween films, I keep rooting for Zombie to score a hit and prove he's a worthwhile filmmaker. I am going into this film cautiously with expectations set pretty low. I'm hoping to be surprised. I want to be surprised. But even after this new trailer that does actually look somewhat better, I still can't muster up a lot of excitement. The Godfather Trilogy 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray SteelBooks Arriving October 11 - Now Up For Pre-Order. Paramount just put up an offer SteelBook collectors can't refuse with all three films in The Godfather Trilogy getting individual 4K UHD SteelBook releases on October 11th. Full details aren't known yet but they appear to just be single discs possibly with no alternate cuts - simple repackages of The Godfather Trilogy set already on the market. It's also worth mentioning that individual releases of The Godfather and The Godfather Part II (sans SteelBook) are available to pre-order as well. 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray & Blu-ray Release Guide - July 17, 2022 - July 23, 2022How did you do with the retailer sales last week (Amazon Prime Days, Target, Walmart, Best Buy, Barnes & Noble)? With the long list of disc releases these next couple of months, I really had to exercise great restraint. I did pick a few discs up, and a mattress topper, still, nothing like previous years. Either I already have everything I needed or the sales just didn't do it for me this year. Welcome to Volume 3 Episode 9 of our weekly release guide. A look at the highlights of what's coming to disc this week, as well as a look at announcements from last week. 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Releases- Whoa with a capital W, and W is also for Wallet-buster as you will see what is in store for you this week! Import Monday starts with a Zavvi SteelBook of The Northman. Currently showing sold out but we know how Zavvi works sometimes, so keep checking. Another Zavvi SteelBook, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which appears to look a lot like a Film Arena slipcase edition. Again, another overseas release getting a better edition than the one coming domestically. Hey Disney and/or Best Buy, I'm pretty sure this one would sell quite well here! Still not done with imports Monday, how 'bout a little bit of Aaahnold Schwarzenegger and Brigitte Nielsen with Red Sonja? Available as a standard edition and as a Zavvi Exclusive SteelBook. If I take one for the team, it will not doubt get a U.S. announcement 5 minutes after I get the shipping notification. Moving on to Domestic release Tuesday, the single new release title in this category this week is The Bob's Burgers Movie, and the only way to get it retailer direct is from Best Buy, as an exclusive SteelBook. Criterion Collection is adding Devil In A Blue Dress to their 4K release line up. Anyone that's ever played GTA San Andreas tell me the cover art/move poster doesn't look like the lead character CJ. This art doesn't even look like Washington really. LionsGate has a pair of 4K upgrades with Gamer and The Kid. The only thing missing on their 4K upgrades (these two, past and future titles) are the slipcovers. Fatale blu-ray had a great slipcover, the 4K, no slip. From Blue Underground, God Told Me To, a Larry Cohen film gets their meticulous treatment. Early reviews so far say it is a great release. Shout Factory has Lion of the Desert, a historical drama and The Message, which 'remains the most powerful and acclaimed movie ever made about the birth of Islam'. It pains me to mention double-dips but this one is news, Sony is releasing Men in Black as a SteelBook in one of their new transfer Dolby Vision version releases (previous edition is HDR10). Each time they have done these, we do get a better version, how badly do we want the new version? No reprieve next week, Marvel, DC, more 4K upgrades, something that was lost and more. Blu-ray releases- As we do every week, listing the blu-ray counterparts of the above titles first. The Bob's Burgers Movie comes to us via Disney/Fox, Devil In A Blue Dress comes to us via Criterion. Keeping with Criterion, a foreign drama titled Drive My Car. I got nothing, sorry, have not heard of this one. Warner Archive Collection has Adventures of Don Juan this week. TV on disc from Warner Bros brings us DC's Legends of Tomorrow: The Seventh and Final Season. Viz Media is releasing Castlevania: Season Four this week, but the latest Pokemon movie is still absent (hint hint). [Edit] Just announced for Oct 4, now they just need to fill in the gaps of missing movies. Anime highlights include Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club - Season 1, Moriarty the Patriot - Part 1, Mother of the Goddess' Dormitory: Complete Collection and The Quintessential Quintuplets - Season 2. Anyone remember Darwin the dolphin? SeaQuest DSV: The Complete Series now gets a region A release from Mill Creek. Showtime Networks mini-series The Good Lord Bird is available on blu-ray this week, as is Yellowjackets: Season One. Arrow Video presents 1989's Hell High. If you're opting for a variant slipcover version, we've linked DiabolikDVD. A more recent horror film, The Righteous dons a shiny disc. Thought that was it? How about The Sacred Spirit, a comedy/sci-fi flick. This one had to get a new cover art because it too much resembled a different film's poster. If you catch these soon enough, they're still 50% off at Amazon. Honorable Mention: If you've been collecting the series, Film Noir: The Dark Side of Cinema VIII debuts this week from Kino Lorber. They also have another collection this week worth a peek, Maria Montez and Jon Hall Collection. Notable announcements from last week: With all the sale events, it was a slower week for announcements. Nevertheless, there are a few. In Bruges is getting a Kino 4K release on Sep 27th. 3:10 to Yuma is getting a 4K Best Buy Exclusive Slipcover Edition SteelBook release on Sep 6th via LionsGate. Batman: The Long Halloween is getting a 4K release on Sep 20th from Warner Bros. The previous blu-ray editions were split into two parts. Also in 4K news, Casablanca appears to be on track for release in November, no doubt just a standard case for the US and some cool looking collector's set overseas. (Remember Singin' in the Rain, Citizen Kane and more?) Fright Night is getting a 4K SteelBook edition on Oct 4th from Sony Pictures. Scream 2 is looking to get a 4K edition SteelBook with an alleged street date in October. 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray & Blu-ray Release Guide - July 10, 2022 - July 16, 2022Amazon Prime 'Day' is this week, specifically Tuesday the 12th and Wednesday the 13th. We ask of you just one little favor before you venture over there to start your shopping spree... start your spree by clicking the Amazon Logo at the bottom of this page or by following this link. For the first time that I can remember of a Prime Day event, I am on vacation, so no sneaking a peek throughout the day from the break room at work on my phone, it's full on easy chair at a desktop computer. I wonder if their various competitors will do anything special this week. Welcome to Volume 3 Episode 8 of our weekly release guide. A look at the highlights of what's coming to disc this week, as well as a look at announcements from last week. 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Releases- This week is offering us a bit of a break in this category, maybe to save for the rest of the month, or the Prime Days sale? First up from LionsGate, if you are looking at getting Angel Heart, it will involve a trip to Best Buy or online as it is an exclusive SteelBook. This one originally got released back in the day as an X-Rated film. Consider this though, when the NC17 rating came out, if a movie had 20 f-bombs it probably got said rating. Having not seen this one in years, I cannot honestly recall how much 'skin' or violence there was in it, but it could not have been *that* bad or I would have remembered it. The Criterion Collection's next 4K entry comes out this week, Raging Bull which stars Robert De Niro and is directed by Martin Scorsese. I heard this one had also won a few awards (I'm joking about the "I heard" part, of course it won a few awards). Lastly, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom gets a new SteelBook design general release. Blu-ray releases- From the list above, Criterion Collection is releasing Raging Bull on blu-ray as well this week. Sticking with Criterion let's also look for Summertime, a drama romance starring Katharine Hepburn. TV on disc from Warner Bros, look for Batwoman: The Third and Final Season. This series was troubled from the start when it had to change the lead character, but they did manage to pull it off. Been awhile since we have heard from The Warner Archive Collection, The Frisco Kid gets a release this week. Paramount's got more catalog releases to ponder, Bébé's Kids, Domestic Disturbance, Down to Earth, Georgia Rule and Leap of Faith. Side Note: Galaxy Quest has quietly changed from a SteelBook release to just a reissue release. For a new release from Paramount, Star Trek: Lower Decks - Season Two comes to blu-ray. Via the Paramount Presents label, comedy/crime Rough Cut starring Burt Reynolds and directed by Don Siegel. Be it LionsGate or partner label Vertical Entertainment, there's always a weekly release. This week we get action films Black Site from Vertical and then from LionsGate we are greeted with Wolf Hound. The corrected version of The Beatles: Get Back hits stores this week, we've provided a Best Buy link as Amazon is still in the holding pattern. Light week for anime, here's the highlights; The Duke of Death and His Maid - Season 1, Hortensia SAGA - The Complete Season, Pompo The Cinephile, RahXephon - Complete Collection and The World Ends with You - The Animation. Honorable mentions: For the first time on blu-ray, The Last Broadcast is being offered up by 101 Films, and this one has a fair amount of special features to boot. And from Shout! Factory, The Six Million Dollar Man: The Complete Series should keep you occupied for awhile. Notable announcements from last week: September is going to be a very trying month for some of us. Do we need to eat or should we tighten the belt and pick up a new release? Oodles of announcements for September, read on for the highlights... Star Trek, or should I say, all of the Star Trek movies featuring the original cast. The Motion Picture with the remastered, extended cut, Star Trek V and VI, the latter includes both cuts, and a complete six-film collection which includes everything new up until now, all with a street date of September 6th. Read the article here. A blu-ray release of The Motion Picture extended cut is also scheduled for the 6th. All the various Shout! Factory labels are beginning to offer up their September slate, 4K titles include Old Henry, Evil Dead (2013), Platoon, The Fog (standard and SteelBook) and Army of Darkness (standard and SteelBook). For blu-ray so far, Spitfire Over Berlin, Post Mortem and Cool World. No GKIDS titles have been revealed yet. Warner Bros has finally revealed the 4K release of Batman: The Long Halloween, with a Sep 20 release date. As mentioned before, when the 4K comes out it will include parts 1 & 2. Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons is on track to get blu-ray and 4K discs on Oct 18. Listed on Amazon but not announced yet, Paramount will be releasing War of the Worlds 4K / When Worlds Collide on Sep 27.
