New Subscribers to Spotify Premium Can Now Receive a Free Google Chromecast

[teaser]For a limited time, Spotify is offering free Chromecasts to new premium subscribers. [/teaser] Spotify has announced the launch of a special Chromecast promotion. From February 17 through February 28, new users who sign up for three months of Spotify Premium for $29.97 will also receive a free Google Chromecast. In addition, existing Spotify free members can also upgrade to three months of Spotify Premium for that same price and receive the free Chromecast as well -- so long as they have not already taken a free trial or tried Premium in the past. Chromecast is an HDMI dongle that allows customers to cast media from mobile devices, computers, and laptops to their big-screen TVs. With support for dual-band 2.4GHz and 5GHz 802.11ac Wi-Fi, the updated Chromecast offers greatly improved connection speeds and stability. In addition, the model features a revamped app with Android and iOS support that makes it easier for customers to stream their favorite content. Likewise, the new circular design makes it easier to plug into a user's display. Models are available in black, coral, and lemonade. With Spotify for Chromecast, users can cast music from the Spotify app for their smartphones and tablets directly to their TVs. Customers can also control playback, browse, and search from the app, and can even make calls while their music keeps playing. In addition, Spotify Premium also includes ad-free listening and the highest quality streaming option. But when the family returns home to Manhattan, a plague of supernatural evil and sudden violence follows. Can this ancient curse be stopped before it is unleashed on the streets of New York City? Italian shock master Lucio Fulci combines elements of The Exorcist, The Awakening, Poltergeist, and more in this bizarre horror thriller. Netflix Releases Trailer for 'Pee-wee's Big Holiday,' Streaming Premiere Set for March 18

Pee-wee's Big Holiday stars Paul Reubens as the beloved fun-loving hero of TV, stage, and film, Pee-wee Herman. Reubens teams up with Judd Apatow ('Anchorman,' 'Bridesmaids') to produce, and Paul Rust ('Comedy Bang! Bang!,' 'Arrested Development') to write. Sony Launches Pre-Orders for 2016 4K Ultra HD TV Lineup with HDR, Prices Start at $2,500

[/teaser] Following their debut at CES back in January, Sony has announced full pricing and availability for its 2016 4K Ultra HD TVs. The lineup includes the XBR-X850D and the XBR-X930D/XBR-X940D series with models ranging in size from 55-inches to 85-inches. "This new lineup of 4K HDR Ultra HD televisions is proof of our continuing commitment to deliver a premium 4K HDR experience to our customers. With the development of 4K HDR shooting, editing, recording, storage, playback, transmission and display technologies, Sony understands 4K HDR like no other company," said Sunil Nayyar, Director of Product Marketing, TV and Projectors, North America. SyFy Readies New Virtual Reality Series 'Halcyon' for Oculus Rift

[teaser]The new show will feature a mixture of standard and virtual reality episodes. [/teaser] NBCUniversal has announced plans to develop a SyFy series for TV, streaming and VR exhibition. Titled 'Halcyon,' the show is a short-form scripted science fiction police procedural. According to The Hollywood Reporter, 'Halcyon' takes place in 2058 in a future society where virtual reality is now commonplace. When an actual murder occurs in virtual reality, detective Julie Dover takes on the case. The series is being produced by Canadian digital studio Secret Location and will be directed by Benjamin Arfmann. The initial order will comprise of 15 episodes. 10 of those episodes will be designed for traditional viewing on SyFy channels and websites. In addition, 5 episodes are being developed exclusively for the Oculus Rift Virtual Reality platform, offering an immersive viewing experience. A premiere date for the series has not been announced yet. "Syfy has consistently broken new ground with its television series and we’re excited to work with them on this new multiplatform project," said James Milward, president, Secret Location when speaking to The Hollywood Reporter. "VR is being exposed to more and more people and with projects like Halcyon, we intend to help this immersive form of entertainment grow." The Oculus Rift is a virtual reality headset designed with advanced optics, a wide field of view, a high refresh rate, and precise, low-latency constellation tracking. Together, these technologies help to create convincing VR movies, shows, and games with a genuine sense of presence. A premiere date for the series has not been announced yet. Customers can pre-order an Oculus Rift now for $599. Units are expected to start shipping in July.
