Best Buy Deal On a Samsung 60" Smart 4K SUHD TV with HDR Coming Just in Time for Ultra HD Blu-ray[teaser]Heads up.[/teaser] Just in time to coincide with the launch of Ultra HD Blu-ray, (or just the ascension of 4K in general), Best Buy has a nice deal in coming for this Sunday. It's not quite a doorbuster, but anyone thinking about getting into 4K, into UHD, and into HDR, might want to take notice. The specific deal, which will be featured in next week's Best Buy circular, is off the current $1999.99 price of the Smasung 60" SUHD TV (UN60JS7000FXZA). It will be $500 off this Sunday, which will bring the price down to $1499.99. Full details on this 60" Smart (flat) SUHD TV can be found here. (LED with Nano-crystal tech, 120hrx, 4 HDMI inputs. It does not support 3D.) That $500 price savings could easily be turned into a Samsung UBD-K8500 Ultra HD Blu-ray player (check out the review here), and even a few Ultra HD Blu-rays (see some of those reviews here). The Best Buy listing for the TV can be found here, while the Amazon listing can be found here. The enterprising High-Def Digest reader might think about ordering now, and getting the price adjusted later. This isn't the best all-time price on the set, but for anyone making the plunge to UHD, this might be the right deal at the right time. Hands down, I'd recommend picking two of the FOX titles, 'The Martian' and 'Kingsman' to go with the TV and the player. John Rad's 'Dangerous Men' Blu-ray Supplements Detailed[teaser]The cult film will be getting the Blu-ray treatment in April. [/teaser] As previously reported, Drafthouse Films says 'Dangerous Men' will be available on Blu-ray on April 5. The fanatical brainchild of Iranian polymath John Rad, Dangerous Men is a passion project that remained in obsessive production for nearly two decades before it finally debuted in Californian theaters in 2005. An unflappably prodigious creative force, Rad handled much of the technical duties of the film, appearing multiple times in the film's credits as the director, writer, location scout, producer, executive producer, and more. Despite initially languishing at the box office during its limited theatrical release, and never finding a likeminded audience before Rad's untimely death in 2007, Dangerous Men developed a devoted following before vanishing as mysteriously as it appeared. Chief among them was Hadrian Belove, of the independent Los Angeles theater The Cinefamily, who saw the film multiple times during its brief theatrical run, and alerted Drafthouse Films and Alamo Drafthouse Cinema programming teams to the existence of the film. Working with the late artist's family, the team worked tirelessly alongside the American Genre Film Institute to locate and restore the original film. "It took us almost three and a half years of continuous begging, pleading and debasement before John Rad's family agreed to license us the film," said Drafthouse COO James Emanuel Shapiro. "It was well worth it! We are immensely proud that we've carved out our own niche of mind-shredding repertory releases and beyond thrilled to unleash what should very much be considered the Holy Grail of Holy F*cking Sh#t on audiences worldwide!" Specs haven't been revealed yet, but supplements include: 16-page booklet featuring only documented full-length interview with John S. Rad; Audio commentary featuring Destroy All Movies authors Zack Carlson and Bryan Connelly; That's So John Rad - An original documentary about to write the chair and the film and its original 2005 theatrical release; Rare footage of John S. Rad appearing on local access television; Interview with director of photography Peter Palian; Original theatrical trailer; and Trailers. You can find the latest specs for 'Dangerous Men' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, where it is indexed under April 5. Order the Blu-rayPosted Fri Feb 26, 2016 at 06:00 AM PST by: -

Norman Thaddeus Vane's 'Frightmare' Blu-ray Announced[teaser]The 1983 horror flick will be making its way to Blu-ray at the end of March. [/teaser] In an early announcement to retailers, Vinegar Syndrome has revealed that 'Frightmare' will hit Blu-ray on March 29. Conrad Radzoff (Ferdy Mayne) was the biggest name in horror movies for decades until, one day, he died of a heart attack. Determined to celebrate his life, and death, the members of a local horror film society steal his freshly buried corpse and decide to host a party, in his honor, at their old and lavish mansion. Unaware that Radzoff's interest in horror extended beyond the silver screen and into the black arts, his corpse is soon re-animated and he begins exacting a bloody revenge against those who disturbed his final resting place. Slyly combining 80s slasher tropes with an insightful and self reflective look at the meaning of horror movies and death itself, Norman Thaddeus Vane's FRIGHTMARE (originally known as THE HORROR STAR) is a quick witted and suspenseful tribute to classic horror cinema. With captivating cinematography by Joel King (JUST BEFORE DAWN) and supporting performances from Jeffrey Combs (RE-ANIMATOR), Luca Bercovici and Leon Askin, FRIGHTMARE has been newly restored from its original camera negative and is coming to Blu-ray for the very first time! Specs have yet to be revealed, but the release will feature a new 2K restoration from the original 35mm negative and supplements will include: Video interview with cinematographer Joel King; Audio interview with director Norman Thaddeus Vane; Historical commentary with David DelValle and David Decoteau (RapidHeart.com); and Commentary with The Hysteria Continues & More!
