'The Mephisto Waltz' Blu-ray Announced[teaser]The 1971 horror film starring Alan Alda, Jacqueline Bisset, and Barbara Parkins is planned for Blu-ray in April.[/teaser] In an early announcement to retailers, Kino says 'The Mephisto Waltz' will hit Blu-ray on April 18. Alan Alda plays a classical piano player on the rise who befriends a famous player himself who's at death's door. Unknown to Alda, the guy is a satanist, who arranges to have their souls switch places at his death, so that he can be young again and continue to play piano (thus needing a skilled piano player like Alda to switch bodies with). Specs have yet to be revealed, but supplements include: Audio Commentary by Film Historian Bill Cooke; Audio Commentary by actress Pamelyn Ferdin, moderated by filmmaker Elijah Drenner; and Trailer Gallery. Terry Serpico, Maulik Pancholy, and Sam Vartholomeos Join Cast of 'Star Trek: Discovery'[teaser]The upcoming streaming series has announced three new cast members.[/teaser] CBS has announced the addition of Terry Serpico, Maulik Pancholy, and Sam Vartholomeos to the cast of 'Star Trek: Discovery.' The actors now join previously announced cast members Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones, Michelle Yeoh, Anthony Rapp, Chris Obi, Shazad Latif, Mary Chieffo, and James Frain. Star Trek, one of the most iconic and influential global television franchises, returns to television 50 years after it first premiered with STAR TREK: DISCOVERY. The series will feature a new ship, new characters, and new missions, while embracing the same ideology and hope for the future that inspired a generation of dreamers and doers. While a launch date has not been revealed yet, the series is set to air a special premiere episode on the CBS Television Network. Following that initial broadcast, all first run episodes of the show will be available exclusively through the CBS All Access streaming platform in the US. In addition, the series will stream globally (outside of the US and Canada) through Netflix. Here's a rundown of the new characters per CBS: Terry Serpico will star as "Admiral Anderson," a high-ranking official of Starfleet. Serpico's credits include 'Army Wives,' 'Rescue Me' and 'Sneaky Pete.' Maulik Pancholy will star as "Dr. Nambue," the Chief Medical Officer of the Starship Shenzhou. Pancholy's credits include '30 Rock' and 'Weeds.'Sam Vartholomeos will star as "Ensign Connor," a Junior Officer in Starfleet Academy assigned to the Starship Shenzhou. His credits include 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty' and 'The Following.' CBS All Access offers next day streaming for new episodes of many popular shows and a library of over 8,500 on demand episodes, including content from current programs like 'Elementary' and classic series like 'Cheers.' Likewise, customers in more than 150 markets across the US -- including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago and Philadelphia -- can watch live local CBS broadcasts through the app. The service is available in two subscription plans: reduced commercials for $5.99 per month or commercial-free for $9.99 per month. The commercial free option offers ad-free playback of on demand content and upcoming original shows. With that said, live streaming will still include the same commercials found in standard over-the-air broadcasts. The app previously launched on iPads and iPhones in 2015, and offers daily sale prices on popular Fox Digital HD titles. "The Movie of the Day app is a super convenient way for consumers to access the movies they love at the touch of a button," said Mary Daily, President and Chief Marketing Officer, Worldwide Marketing, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. "The app gives movie lovers access to an amazing array of movies every day at a great price." With the Movie of the Day app, Apple TV users will be given access to a special Digital HD flash sale every day. The discounted movie will be available for a 24-hour window at up to 75% off its retail price, with sales ranging between $4.99 and $9.99. DISH Preps Live 4K Broadcast of BBC America's 'Planet Earth II'[teaser]The natural history series will be available to watch live in Ultra HD.[/teaser] DISH has announced plans to broadcast BBC America's 'Planet Earth II' live in 4K Ultra HD. The show will be simulcast on BBC America, AMC, and SundanceTV on Saturday, February 18. Subsequent episodes will then air on BBCA every Saturday night through March 25. With the update, owners of a Daydream-ready smartphone and a Daydream View headset can now experience virtual reality content directly through the Chrome browser. In order to enjoy the full virtual reality experience through Chrome, customers simply need to browse to VR content on a Daydream-ready phone, enter VR, and then insert the smartphone into a Daydream View headset. In addition, users without a headset can also experience Chrome VR on any smartphone or desktop computer, allowing them to interact with the content through their fingers or mouse. Current VR-enabled sites and content accessible through Chrome include the interactive documentary Bear 71; Matterport's library of 300,000+ celebrity homes, museums, canyons, iconic architecture and other real places; more than two dozen VR films with Within; more than a million 3D scenes in VR with Sketchfab; and the WebVR Lab from PlayCanvas which allows users to interact with a virtual space through the Daydream controller.
