Boxee is Hiring an iPhone Developer[teaser]It looks like the popular media streaming service could be hitting Apple products. [/teaser] Boxee recently put up an ad looking for an iPod and iPhone developer to be the founding member of their new Mobile Applications team. “We consider 'other screens' as important as TVs for enjoying video,” writes Boxee. Unless they’ve got something else in mind, it looks like Boxee will be hitting the iPhone in one form or another. It could be a big leap for the company, which would be following in the footsteps of Netflix, who launched an iPhone app earlier this month. Interestingly the listing also calls out Android development as a plus. Since the intent is to create a Mobile Applications team, it’s no surprise that there’s a desire to expand further than just the iPhone. There’s no official announcement about the project, but it looks as though we can expect Boxee on our smartphones in the near future. Source: BoxeePosted Fri Apr 16, 2010 at 07:00 AM PDT by: -

LG’s 15 Inch OLED Released in UK[teaser]It’s the world’s largest consumer OLED, and it’s only $2,700. [/teaser] Alright, let’s put a little bit of a qualifier on the “only $2,700.” Sure, that’s a lot of money to spend on an incredibly small screen. Inch for inch though, it’s far cheaper than Sony’s foray into the OLED market. LG’s 15EL9500 is a fifteen inch OLED screen that’s available now in the UK and it’s surprisingly affordable for an OLED. Compared to the Sony XEL-1, LG has created a very impressive set. It’s got a 720p resolution, 100Hz refresh rate, 0.1ms response time, and it’s pretty cool looking to boot. Let’s face it, aesthetics matter. The new OLED also features a USB port for watching videos, though LG hasn’t said what codecs it supports. The spec sheet also touts the 15EL9500 as water resistant. Considering a 15 inch set would be right at home in the kitchen, that’s good to know. The 15EL9500 is available now in the UK and will be hitting more of Europe in May. There’s no mention of a US release date yet. LGPosted Thu Apr 15, 2010 at 11:00 AM PDT by: -
Viewsonic’s LED TV is Now Available[teaser]The 23” set won’t make any waves, but it’s nice, small, and efficient. [/teaser] You’re not going to blow anyone’s mind when you invite them over to check out your new 23 inch Viewsonic VT2300LED. It’s not much bigger than most computer monitors, and smaller than some. In the kitchen though, or anywhere else where space comes at a premium, the 2300 will do the job nicely. It’s got a 1080p resolution and three HDMI ports, which makes it surprisingly versatile for a smaller display. The VT2300LED is also packed with Viewsonic technology that’s designed to create more realistic skin tones and a better overall picture. Viewsonic’s new set is power efficient thanks to edge based LED backlighting. They quote a 50% energy savings over traditional LCD monitors, which is about what we’ve come to expect from LED lighting. MSRP in the VT2300LED is $399, but online retailers like Amazon are letting it go for $100 less than asking. Source: ViewsonicPosted Thu Apr 15, 2010 at 09:00 AM PDT by: -

TVLogic Debuts 2D and 3D OLED Monitors[teaser]If you really want to get your OLED on, TVLogic is giving you the chance. [/teaser] OLED displays have been “just a few years away” for a few years now and it’s beginning to get disheartening. It’s nice to see though, that there are a few companies still pumping out the TVs of the future. TVLogic’s got two of them, both of which measure fifteen inches diagonally. The LEM-150W is an AMOLED set, with a resolution of 1366 x 768. It’s got a 16:9 resolution and a surprisingly wide array of inputs for such a small monitor. Since it’s made for professional use, it’s also got a built-in waveform/vector scope. It’s got a viewing angle of 180 degrees, though I can’t imagine more than one or two people gathered around a 15 inch screen. TVLogic’s TDM-150W is interesting in that you’re not going to find much like it on the market. Like the LEM, it’s a 15 inch set with a 1366 x 768 resolution and a 100,000:1 contrast ratio. Unlike the LEM, the TDM is 3D capable. There’s no pricing out yet for these two displays, but since they’re geared towards professionals, let’s just assume they’re prohibitively expensive. Sharp Creates RGBY 3D Sets[teaser]Not to be left out of the 3D race, Sharp has announced the creation of four-color 3D LCD sets. [/teaser] This holiday season will reveal a lot about the consumer market. Specifically, we’ll find out whether 3D in the home is really going to take off or not. Some companies, like Samsung and Panasonic, are betting heavily on the new tech. Sharp has been a bit more hesitant when it comes to 3D televisions, but they’re still hedging their bets. In fact, Sharp says that the new RGBY display they’ve developed is the best 3D set out there. For starters, it’s almost twice as bright as any other set. That’s important, says Sharp, since it helps to create more accurate colors. Crosstalk is at an all time low with Sharp’s displays. If you’ve tried out 3D displays, you’ve probably seen that horrible ghosting that comes along with them. That’s crosstalk. Sharp says that a combination of a better set and better glasses means less crosstalk. There’s nothing set in stone for a release date or pricing, but expect to see Sharp bring something out by this winter. Source: SharpPosted Wed Apr 14, 2010 at 11:00 AM PDT by:
